As we know, Platinum and MD2 are far darker than their predecessors. Will Black and White become darker and edgier, or will they become Lighter and Softer?

I think this will go one of two ways.
1. To me, from the little bit of info we've seen of Black and White, it seems to be leaning more to the darker side. Considering they want to do a "rebirth" of the franchise or whatever, it very well could be darker.
2. They're making it look/sound darker to draw in the old fans to buy the games, but they'll turn out just the same as previous gens, if not softer and lighter for laughs from the development team.

I think they should lighten up a bit. I mean, it was cool how Platinum was dark and all, but sometimes it feels a little too complicated to be Pokemon!

I'm starting to hear rumors that "most of the elements of these games will get a revamp", so it's a slight possibility that it could be darker. But, not too dark either... considering the target audience that Pokemon is originally aimed for, that is.

I do think however that the storyline itself could very well be a little more in-depth than the previous, beings that's the typical pattern for each passing Generation. Darker and edgier? Not sure. More in-depth? Maybe. The titles "black" and "white" do kinda suggest a possible theme of good vs. evil though.

We shall have the killing of pokemon!

Oh wait...

We shall have cults bent on destroying the world!

Oh wait...

We shall have suicide!

Oh wait...

We shall have swearing!

In Japan only

We shall have gambling!

I'm not even going to say anything.

...

We shall have blood, gore, guns, and rape!

No.

It could very well be darker. But, I think that the target audience will hinder how dark it gets, like everyone else said.

If they went darker and edgier than what they would normally do for these games, it'd definately piss off the parents fo sho. We've already had enough of that in the past with Pokemon, I don't think I'd like to see that again... lol.

It's possible. I mean, the main games keep progressing in darker and edgier themes.

In RBGYFrLg, Team Rocket killed pokemon.

In RSE, Team Magma and Aqua were like insane cults.

In DPPt, Team Galactic almost destroyed the world. And in Platinum, the plot was really in depth and complicated.

And in HGSS, Giovanni supposedly commits suicide. Ethan/Lyra pretty much confirms it.

I wouldn't be surprised if some random person runs up to you and mugs you in BW. You could be walking down that dark alley in the city in the screenshot. The mugger just comes and steals your money if you don't defeat him in battle.

From the little info we have seen so far, I see it as more of a realistic direction than a darker, edgier direction. Cities look and feel like ACTUAL CITIES, several stores combined into one, actual transportation, etc. Although this could go along with slightly darker material (say, a team that threatens with guns instead of Pokemon, and must be hijacked from afar, and perhaps the team wants to destroy a city instead of cover it in water/land/suck out everyone's soul/mutilate Slowpokes/etc.) because real life is innately darker than the fantastical incarnations of the Pokemon, I doubt it will go much further than it has thus far. Maybe Pokemon Adventure-type dark, but never Bioshock dark.

Oh great, another thread like this. Now we just have to wait untill someone comes by and says how he/she wants actual death implemented into the games etc. etc. etc.

Well I say no. The games are fine as they are, and aimed at kids, so the games should not be darker and/or edgier.

The only darker and edgier I would want from Pokemon is if it gets a Cero B which is basically an easy E10+ and a 7 or 12 in Europe.

I'd say a 12A (PG13) level of darkness. Something that is sinister, but not sinister or graphic enough to scar the little ones.

You do know what PG13 means right? That's a T rating on the games. Bye-bye to have the buyers.

So American censorship is crazier than I thought? Wow. *goes to look up American certificate ratings*. To correct my statement, going by game ratings...a game with a story edging towards a more E10+ rating would be nice.

Although tbh, a PG-13 Spin-Off game wouldn't hurt GameFreak too much, especially if they advertise it for the older fans.

They would never do that. But an E10+ is perfectly acceptable. Its Europe I'm worried about and the lack of a frikin medium. I can imagine the faces of people if it does get an E10+ resulting in a 12 for Europe.
