No thread on this? I'm surprised, as I'd have thought there'd be some 90s kids around here that were fans of the original series. Anyway, a few weeks back, the first issue of a new Darkwing Duck comic series came out from BOOM Kids! For me, this is a welcome revival of one of my favourite Disney characters.

Did anyone pick up the first issue? It's already getting hard to find... especially Cover A and the special 1:10 variant cover (pictured above).

I've read it and loved it. All I need to do now is buy it, but my local store doesn't have it.

I keep meaning to check my store, but keep forgetting. If not...then a hunt shall be had! Really is something I want to give a shot, but it's always harder for me to remember books made by smaller companies.

I bought the comic the first day it came out, was able to get Cover A, but didn't find that other cover in the store.

As for the comic itself, I love how the art style is close to the show itself, which is good as it invokes nostalgia for me and was able for me to recall everyone's old voices on the TV Show. The humor is still as fine as ever, I still get a crack in the first issue when DW is having a fantasy where everyone's head is replaced with Launchpad.

Be sure to check soon, as most stores seem to be out... and sell out very quickly after receiving additional stock (if they can even get any). I'll be picking up/ordering #2 as soon as it appears, however I foolishly waited about a week and a half before looking for the first issue and finding cover A was an ordeal. I finally found a copy at a store in my city (though in a rather distant corner), and it was their last one.

I ordered covers B and the variant from an online store that still had them in stock, and I'm expecting them any day now. For the first issue of something like this, I like to get all the covers available.

There's a fair bit of new information, so I figured I'd revive this for the benefit of Darkwing fans and people interested in this comic; which proves difficult to find with each release unless you're really on the ball.

Issue #2 came out a week or two ago; and even now it's already becoming hard to find outside of eBay. Also, apparently #1 will be getting a reprint pretty soon (followed by #2, eventually) with a new variant cover:

And finally, once the first 4 issues are out, a new story arc will begin: Crisis on Infinite Darkwings (most comic fans will no doubt know what this is meant to parody). According to this cover art for a collected volume set for release sometime in 2011 this arc will feature the return of such fan favourites as Darkwarrior Duck, a megalomaniacal version of Darkwing from an alternate timeline who has conquered his world's St. Carnard. From the looks of the cover art, they may also try to reconcile Darkwing's conflicting origin stories... one of which parodied that of Superman (being sent to Earth as a baby... that's the "astronaut" version of Darking seen from behind.

I got my hopes up :(

But it's still cool. I wish there was a new series.

While a new series would be jaw-droppingly awesome (though if the sales of this comic keep up, who knows, maybe Disney might reconsider reviving it)... I have to admit, Darkwing works incredibly well as a comic. The art is also so crisp and nice... he's never looked so good.

Picked up the second issue and really loved it. Did a great job of capturing the feel of the cartoon, right down to the artwork. Was a truly great read and I'm eagerly awaiting the next issue.

I remember reading somewhere there's a new comic, but I haven't had the chance to pick it up yet. XD I hope the Fearsome Four/Five are going to be in it, and if they are, that they're as awesome as they were in the show. :0

I'm just hoping that the sales of the Comic Book would give Disney the proper nudge to y'know, finish the DVD sets for all of their afternoon shows. Hell, I just bought the first volume of the Darkwing Duck cartoon because the comic made me want to check it out again, and to my surprise, the cartoon holds up pretty well. My main goal for this is to see if they will revive any of the other shows in comic book format.

As for Issue 2, love it more than Issue 1. The art and humor is still amazing, and I can't wait for the next issue where Negaduck should finally appear.

(heh; gotta love that Negaduck cover... the dude is such a whackjob)

Issue #3 came out this week. The incentive covers are rather hard to come by, so until Boom settles down a bit and starts releasing only A and B covers, I'm stuck ordering online. Should be about a week before I get to see #3 for myself. A six-page preview of this month's issue, for anyone thinking about buying it:

The art in these continues to impress me; it's great to see these characters revived and such care taken in the visuals. Several of the artists involved seem to have DA accounts, and post upcoming cover art to their profiles. It's great to see the characters portrayed in such varying styles, too:

Finally found the first issue, and picked up the third issue this week. Very fun read, and I'm amazed at how much it seems like the old cartoon. All the old voices come flooding back as I read it.

Though I don't recall the who the guy at the end of the third issue is. Assuming I've even seen him before.

You mean

Taurus Bulba, he was the first "big-time" villain that Darkwing Duck ever went toe-to-toe with and was responsible for Gosalyn living with Darkwing Duck, along with Launchpad and Darkwing becoming friends. He only appeared in 3 episodes, both parts of the pilot episode, and one where he appeared in that cyborg form you saw at the end of the comics.

Ah, well then that would explain why he wasn't quite as familiar as the other villains that have appeared. Name still doesn't sound familiar, but I do seem to very, very, very vaguely recall seeing him before.

This is what he looked like before the cyborg implants

I can understand why people may not be familiar with him, since he did only have 3 episodes, but man, he was such a great villain. He was practically able to run his crime ring while being in jail.

That DOES look a lot more familiar. Definitely makes the comic series more interesting for including him. Nice to see they aren't JUST using the bigger villains.

I thought the comic was cool but I've always preffered Duck Dodgers
