Daschle withdraws

Like no republican can stay out of other people's...well, you know.

I'm starting to not like where this is going. So far three of Obama's selections are not doing what they should've done. Geithner saved his ass. How long will this go on? Many are saying this is Obama's first major hurdle in his administration. I pray this doesn't go down in the wrong direction.

At least it is nice to see him apologizing for his mistakes, unlike SOME people...

Timothy Geithner, Nancy Killefer, Bill Richardson, and now, Tom Daschle. As I said in the Serebii Forums' "Debate" section, I feel as though I'm watching a train wreck. Speaking of the Serebii thread, one BigLutz there seemed quite eager to see a few Obama supporters head back to that main political thread -- at least, as I see it -- in order to explain what's really happening here, rather than fall back on lectures about "Hope" and "Change". That apology from Obama himself might mean that it's now safe to assume that said supporters now have a reason to stop calling him "The One" and referring to him simply as "President Obama". That said, perhaps to summarize this story so far in a single sentence, what a mess. To think that it's only been two weeks since Inauguration Day 2009.

The only people who ever referred to him as "The One" were sardonic right-wing talk radio hosts and their buddies. No Obama supporter ever used that silly language.

And it's so incredibly refreshing to hear "I screwed up" from a President when he actually...you know, screwed up. That alone is reason to be glad I voted for him.

And to be fair to Obama, he has already presided over a massive SCHIP expansion, the operational winding-down of Gitmo, and the beginnings of cleaning up Bush policy. Off to a pretty good start, two weeks in.

I'm assuming that you missed these Obama phenomena since last year up to now. Even now, there's still a comprehensive source of stories toward this end, and it's right here.:

Between this messianic treatment and the various "exceptions" I've seen out of President Obama regarding lobbyists, I can only wonder what's next after Tom Daschle's departure. Obama may wish to appear repentant, but I fear that he only appears weak amidst such a wave of scandals involving his nominees and appointees.

With like two exceptions in your links, everything there was either allegory (i.e., the DailyKos story) or reasonable (we are the ones we've been waiting for at the convention is actually...you know, rational.)

Oprah's is over the top. I won't dismiss that as Oprah being Oprah, but I'd argue that a significant amount of the "Messiah" talk hasn't been actually fueled by his supporters. A lot of the things you cited are in the vein of "oh my god there's actually someone in government I can believe in."

First, I resent the implication that Democrats don't pay their taxes. I pay my taxes :p.

Second, I think the problem is President Obama set too stringent ethical standards. This is why he's having his candidates pop up with vetting problems and having to issue exceptions and waivers to his Executive Orders.

Not everyone in Washington, D.C. is squeaky clean. We're all human beings and have errors in our past, however big or small. With that said, I don't think Geithner is any better than Kileffer or Daschle. He should resign.

It was actually "That One". "The One" came from somewhere else.

Yeah, that's what I think as well, but I admit that it did make him look bad, the Illinois Governor didn't help either. Hopefully though, this gets pushed even more out of the limelight. What I mean is just because this is happening with Obama, doesn't make McCain the better choice. If you try to use your 2nd key once, that doesn't mean you should go back to the one you tried all so many times before.
