David Letterman makes fun on Sarah Palin

I usually don't side with Sarah Palin, but I do think it was a little lame to crack a joke about A-Rod knocking up her daughter. The joke didn't really make sense in the first place, and Bristol has really handled her pregnancy with class, in her defense (which is more than I can say for her ex-boyfriend).

I don't mind poking fun at presidential candidates/former presidential/vice presidential candidates- they know what they're getting themselves into once they start running, but once you drag their kids into it it's a cheap attack. They didn't choose to have their parents run for office. I'd say the exact same thing if the person in question was Chelsea Clinton, or one of the Obama daughters, or whatever. (Though once a presidential child makes an ass of themselves, they're fair game- like the Bush daughters when they got wasted)

I think it was mostly because Sarah Palin was so against teenage pregnancy and harping on about celibacy, that no one took her serious when her own daughter turned out to be pregnant.

David Letterman hasn't been funny for years. Before opening his mouth, he probably should have gotten his facts straight. Statutory rape isn't funny at all.

To be fair, though, Bristol is speaking about teen pregnancy now. I think she's more than qualified to. At least she's becoming a good example.

This crap again?

Don't you get it Palin? You and your family are, and will always be, a huge joke. Stop acting like this is some big outrage that is hurting young women. I'm so sick you making my party look like a bunch of crazies who make a huge deal out of every stupid little thing and think they know best on how we should all act.

Sarah Palin doesn't understand when to shut up. She should have taken Letterman's apology and be done with it. She would have been in the right for once. Instead, she's make a much bigger case out of this than it should be. Now, it likes another Palin publicity stunt.

Agree with you on that. Letterman apologized, and she should have accepted it. That's the gracious thing to do, and it makes me question if she has her daughter's best interests in mind. Now it just seems like Republican victim complex BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWing.

I think it is less about Sarah Palin making a "stunt" and more about the liberal media starting up another smear campaign. Let's not forget that there is a definite liberal bias in the media. Had stuff like this been said about the Clinton's kid or the Obama kids, the press would have eaten them alive.

Rape isn't funny. I think Palin is justified in being angry.

Seriously, would anyone have been surprised if Chelsea acted like her parents? I EXPECT certain behaviors from liberals. It makes it funny when self-righteous assholes get their white-washed facades removed and we see them for the normal flawed humans they like to pretend they aren't.

I'm not sure who you're arguing for here.

And this is where I stopped reading.

Can't accept the truth?

Keep in mind that "liberal media" doesn't necessarily mean that all of the media has a liberal bias. No one's arguing that Rush Limbaugh or Fox News has a liberal bias. The expression "liberal media" can refer to specific outlets that are liberal. So, yes, there is a liberal media, and there's a conservative media too.

As I understood the concept, the media would have been silent if the Clinton kid turned out to be a slut. I was just mentioning that hypocrisy makes for better news coverage. When someone touts themselves as wonderful upstanding moral citizens and then the truth comes out that they're not ... it's funnier than when someone you know isn't all that great does something unflattering.

The problem is that it isn't very even handed. Another example of this is the coverage of the Tiller murder and the murder of the recruiter in Arknasas. Fox News has been fair in their coverage of both.

My whole opinion of the situation is this: Palin has a right to be angry. David Letterman needed to get his facts straight before opening his mouth. And in no way, shape or form is rape ever funny.

Letterman's ratings are going to be boosted in the short term. After this blows over, however, he's likely to lose viewership and he'll go back to being irrelevant.

This.

The thing is, you can't be a family values candidate and use your daughter as an example of responsible teens who made a mistake, then shield her from all criticism of that mistake (and it's a big one! It also shows that abstinence-only sex education is really stupid. Kids have sex. It's fun. And they should do it safely.)

Letterman never said she should be raped, that was Palin's selective reading (an advantageous one, for her). You really think the only blowback from suggesting someone should be raped would be conservative consternation?

Kids don't have sex because it's fun. Kids have sex because "the popular kids are doing it". Sex in any capacity is dangerous, whether you are using rubbers or not. It's a complete insult to call kids as nothing more than a mass of flesh and hormones, because it degrades them to the point of calling them animals, incapable of thinking with their heads.

Teaching abstinence is fine. With abstinence, all of the risks involving sex disappear. Also, waiting makes the final moment sweeter in the end.

Devid Letterman
irrelevant

Put the butthurt away for a second. It's butthurt because you're making statements without thinking about them.

Letterman, like him or not is a TV icon. Is he losing his touch? Yeah, probably, but he won't be made irrelevant because he made fun of a republican.

Additionally, are you old enough to remember the Clinton years? He got on Clinton's case EVERY NIGHT, especially during the Monica Lewinsky debacle.

If you're a public icon who makes media waves, the late night hosts are going to eat you alive.

In the end, this is likely more of a "hmm... well it's what everyone does now so lets do it too" than it is a liberal agenda against Palin, I think.

and inb4 I'm called a liberal pig. I'm undeclared :D
