This pic is so pretty that how can anyone say no to this ship? :x

The red-headed girl is very likely to be Hikari's rival, so what do you think, a lesbian version of Contestshipping in D/P?

If the red-headed girl does hit on Hikari, I guess we know who the man in the relationship will be (lolz), while Hikari is the sweet, innocent, girly girl who is taken by surprise and converted into lesbianism.

Pokeshippers will probably flock to this ship because it would prevent Pearlshipping, while yuri fans in general will love it. It also seperates her from the previous girls in the group.

While May clearly desired to be satisfied by boys, Hikari going for girls would differentiate her from May for good. Yay or nay?
 
Hmm...Butch/Cassidy is NeoRocketShipping, isn't it? So how about calling this one NeoContestShipping?
 
Yes, but that one's hardly called NeoRocketshipping anymore and is now just... Neoshipping. :p Neo---- is as boring anyway.

All I can think of is Oppositeshipping and that's probably taken.

I'd rather Contestshipping be the D/P version of Contestshipping, to be honest... *sigh*

I think Hikari/Shinji is shaping up to be the new May/Drew, in fanon at least. Hikari/her rival is closer to May/Kelly.

There've been a few names suggested for the ship on SPPF. I quite like Appealshipping.
 
Or since May/Kelly is LilycoveShipping (or MinamoShipping), how about naming this ship after the city in which it originates, or the rival girl's hometown (if given)?
 
Maybe, but it could possibly be a number of months before the first Contest episode or when the rival girl debuts. If she's like Drew, the writers may introduce her before the first Contest episode.

I do like Appealshipping as a name though, especially since Hikari is all about the dress-up and performance part of Contests. Maybe the rival girl will make fun of her dresses or something like that? She does seem to be a rather tough looking biker chick, and Hikari is a sweet little girly girl, and those types tend to not get along. But then again, that's why they're rivals! :eek:
 
I am sure thier interactings will be pretty much the same has that of Ash and Gary, May and Drew interactings..
 
There's something odd about this apparent rival of Hikari.....she looks *very* similar to the in-game rival of your main character in Diamond/Pearl. Only thing is...that rival is male.

Have we all been had? While the character in that picture does look very female (mainly due to the eyes, I think), the hair is a perfect match, and I'm pretty sure he wears that same type of jacket too.
 
Um, I don't see how anyone can say that Hikari's rival is anything but female. She even has eyelashes, which the animators only give to females, as well as feminine looking eyes.

Even though her clothes and hair are very boyish, the eyelashes are a dead giveaway that she's a girl.

She's just a tomboy looking chick with boyish clothes, which points to the possibility of her being lesbian, and thus this ship becoming possible. Yay!
 
If it's a co-ordinator, who's supposed to be fairly flamboyant, I wouldn't put it past the animators putting eyelashes on a male character. Certainly, just looking at her, one assumes that she's probably female, but like I said, she does seem to match up in a number of ways to the in-game male rival.

Correction... Oppositeshipping IS taken. That's Tucker x Greta, cause nothing is more opposite than a man who flaunts in a pink "fairy" costume and a martial arts obsessed tomboy.

In terms of Hikari x her rival's shipping name, a lot of people have been using Appealshipping on the quiet.
 
Appealshipping sounds good to me--is it possible to reserve ship names? XD I love the idea of this ship and I love Hikari, so all that's needed to make it my new anime OTP is for the rival to be totally awesome and have some nice chemistry (read: interaction that can totally be interpreted as subtext) with Hikari. <3
 
I think it'll be hard NOT to find subtext between these two girls. Here's hoping she debuts soon!
 
Dude, word. And maybe if she's tomboyish enough it'll get rid of the "zomg Shinji x Hikari is the new Drew x May" mentality because honestly, the dynamic is completely different. Shinji x Hikari in terms of character dynamics and interaction is much more like Gary x Misty would be, since Shinji is ASH'S new rival, not Hikari's. Shinji/Gary & Ash, Drew & May, Hikari's rival & Hikari = direct rivals. Shinji & Hikari =/= direct rivals.

Sadly, the yuri-phobes and/or the people who insist that any canonical shippy subtext the anime gives must be for het ships only will *still* consider Shinji x Hikari to be the new Contestshipping rather than Hikari's rival x Hikari. As a shipper who values the quality, quantity, and nature of interaction between characters as the main basis for shipping them, the insistence upon such a superficial shipping criterion such as simply whether it's het (or yaoi or yuri) or not is really...galling.

So here's rooting for the *REAL* new Contestshipping - Hikari x her rival!
