When 5th gen comes out of these characters who do you see staying or going? Please state opinions ^^
Thank you.

Agh, I want all of them to stay! Most likely though, Brock will be gone, and probably Dawn too. I can see Paul staying around though, especially if he beats Ash during the Sinnoh League.

That's true but its fun to have theorys. I really think Dawn will be gone like May even though I like her the best. It would be great if Brock was gone but after this saga I've given up what to think on him. If he does stay I hope they don't give him another bye, bye thing and than have him return. Just let him go on with Ash from the last saga so we just know it and not speculate like crazy if he's going or not.

I don't think Dawn has a chance of staying. She's the DP hero, meant to hype the DP games, and once the 5th gen comes out, it'll be the 5th gen hero. As for Brock, I don't think he'll be leaving.

The only one I'm absolutely sure has a chance of staying is Brock. The writers are too chickenshit to kick him out.

Nah. Ash and Team Rocket will probably be here forever, D/P feels a lot like Brock's last hurrah. A good Pokemon team, lots of breeders in D/P, and as far as I know the Japanese aren't even interested in Brock anymore.

Dawn will definitely be gone as she is only there to advertise the DP games. Brock will hopefully and most likely stay. Of course Ash is staying, since he is the main and most important character. I'm hoping that Misty will come back, but I doubt it. May will not be coming back. Paul may stay as he is a rival.

I also don't get why people hate Brock so much. So, he is not involved in the plot all the time. He is a classic character and always hilarious.

I'd like Paul to stay. :<
But I'm almost sure that Brock's staying and Dawn's leaving.

It's stupid to say Dawn will leave just because May left... Dawn is NOT May... and while Dawn is the second heroine after May she's the first to be shown as totally equal to Ash - I think since the writers got that right after the mistakes they did with May they won't want her to leave
Also so what if she's a DP characters? Ash and Brock are RBY characters... Gary too...

And Ash is an option too since they are hinting at something with the elite four... they might give Ash his conclusion

Well, it's not stupid, it's reasoning. Dawn will most likely leave due to the fact that she's put in there to hype the DP games. And while Ash is RBY, they couldn't get rid of him because they wouldn't want to lose their main character. As for Brock, I think that people rioted so much when he left that they brought him back.

And if Ash goes, the series will probably do what many series have done, which is add some new, younger character and make an older Ash a mentor-type character. If that happens, however, there may be shipping possibilities.

You can't say what is "most likely"
No one can say that except the writers

In PM Ash was the only hero
For AG and DP we have two heroes: Ash and May/Dawn
May was the first time they did an equal heroine but they had a lot of mistakes with her
Dawn is the second heroine but she's the first to be shown as totally equal... they learned from the mistakes they did with May and fixed them with Dawn... why let her leave after finally they got it right?
And if May or Dawn "can" leave Ash can too... especially if he really will win the Sinnoh league and beat the elite four and Cynthia

As for Brock, I think that people rioted so much when he left that they brought him back.

When the episode Brock left aired they obviously began Johto already so they couldn't change things by what the fans thought
And they never care anyway what the fans think... Misty and May left and a lot complained... did they return?

People were upset with Brock leaving because he was only there for ONE season at the time.

Now Brock's been in nearly 10, and we've had polls about Brock here before and most people said they either want to see him take a break from the show or they don't care if he leaves or not.

I don't really understand why people think its "good" for a character to last so long. The longer Brock stays, the worse off his character becomes. He's nowhere near as fun a character now as he was back in the early seasons. His Pokemon team is awesome this gen but as a character himself they're run out of ideas.

Its like people are almost afraid of thinking what new sidekick would replace him, when I'm sure the writers learned from Tracey and can make a character with more depth this time.

Hilarious? Falling in love with every woman he ever meets is getting old. I hope he leaves.

Paul on the other hand could go either way. If he does leave, then Ash won't have a regular rival again. Gary isn't doing Gyms anymore so he's probably not going to be doing much competing with Ash over the rest of the series, so I think maybe Paul could last a bit longer.

But Paul is kind of character-focused, once we get to the end of his character development, what more can you do with him?

Were they Japanese polls?

Eazy, eazy no point in arguing with peoples opinions here. This is just to state your opinion, if you feel indifferent to peoples opinions start your own topic. But Please lets keep debates out of here, thank you. I don't know why Dawn fans feel Dawn is safe, sure she's been equal to Ash spotlight. But May was too and she was a fan favorite but she left. Plus the Japan writers want to advertize the next girl character for the games, that's why May left and that's why Misty left. Each character was equally popular but the Japan writers only care about advertizing. Ask for why people know Ash/Team Rocket won't be leaving, there the main characters of the series. Once they leave the show ends, simple. They've been on since Kanto saga and will keep travling on wards. But since the games are still popular and the show is, I don't see them ending it any time soon. So therfore Ash/TR keep on going. Agian I say I'm not sure about Brock, the writers might be too scared to get rid of him after the Orange Islands saga. But it does seem like there giving him a good send off here as Scott said. But if that's the case I'd be all for it. Ask for Paul, I'd love for him to stay, I figured out a way for him to stay. Just have him be really angry at Ash for the defeat and try to keep up after him. It could be like the Naruto/Sasuke rival they had in series 1 only bit different. But if the writers feel he's done than that's it, maybe they could give Ash a girl rival for the first time the next gen.

In the case of Paul, we're only assuming that his character will be fully developed at the end of D/P. The way things have been going so far, that may not be the case. He could easily be fleshed out more after D/P is done, depending on what happens over this saga.

Either way, in 70 episodes alone he's made far more appearances than Gary has in over 500. The writers have made him much more of a rival than Gary.

I think that the reason Misty stayed for two seasons was that there was no one to replace her with. At the beginning of Johto, there were no female main game characters. Now, there are, and so the female of each generation is put in the anime. And also, unlike Dawn and May, Ash isn't taken directly from the games. He's more of an adapted version of the RBY hero, who was readapted for Hoenn and Sinnoh. I really don't see DAwn saying, but you can have your own beliefs. I just think that she's directly taken from the game, so she'll leave right before the 5th generation, like May did.

Were they Japanese polls?

No clue, but I remember the Japanese being a bit annoyed when they found out that Brock was coming back for D/P. Remember that pre-D/P poster that made it look like the group was going to be Ash/Dawn/Paul?

But then we discovered Paul was a rival instead and then Brock came back, they had the same kind of "What the heck?" reaction we did. I remember seeing it on Pokeani and a number of other Japanese fansites when D/P first started in Japan.

When Pokesho does their character polls, Brock is also never in the top 10. Yamato-san can vouch for me on this as well if he sees this thread.

In any case, I'm just saying Brock should not be put on the same level as Ash and Team Rocket. We've already seen Brock leave once, we could see him leave again. He's nowhere near as big a character as Ash or Team Rocket are, despite being in the show for almost as long.
