Dawn's lovelife debate thread

My point was that it's silly to pull hints out of stuff like Dawn touching Ash's shoulder, because you'd expect them not to be so at ease around each other if they were secretly interested. Physical closeness implies their feelings are platonic.

Their fighting is a sign of tension in their friendship, but they lack sexual tension.

As for Kengo, I watched the episodes and it didn't even occur to me that he might be jealous of Ash, although I may not have been paying attention in the right place. At any rate, if he was, that would be tension between Ash and Kengo, not Ash and Dawn. That's like saying Drew being jealous of Ash or Harley equals May/Ash and May/Harley tension.

Over in the thread about shippingness decreasing/increasing, I just got done talking about how years ago, when fans were younger, we used to incorporate every ridiculous thing into a romantic hint. I thought those days were over and that we knew better. But apparently not.

Well, I must admit, it seems like Dawn is sort of getting close to Ash. But not that much. The high-five is sort of friendly but they're friends, aren't they? And whole hand resting on Ash's shoulder thing. That's the only thing that's making me think that. But not by very much.

Seems like this is going to be an ongoing theme between the two, we might as well archive the high-fives now for future reference.

- Ash and Dawn gave each other a high-five during her very first Contest after Ash did his appeal

- Ash and Dawn give each other a second high-five during the Pochama/Kengo Contest

- Ash and Dawn give each other a third high-five during the tag battle episode.

Like Ash and Pikachu hugging or something. I.e. not a "hint" in my book. Just a way of showing their friendship and support.

Don't know about ya'll but unless they touch eachother somewhere "obvious" (=you know what I mean!), then it's not a hint ;D

And how do you know that, their are couples out there that form because of said closeness, not saying it has to mean something here, but it very well could.

Pokeshippers seem to use Ash and misty's little quarrels as "evidence" for thier ship, and the only moment Ikarishippers have and use is when Dawn blew up in the gym episode since Paul didn't even acknowledge who she was at the time, so i don't see why pearlshippers can't use these arguments that occur between Ash and Dawn the same way.

Overall though i don't care what path they set Dawn on relationship wise, except Appealshipping which needs to be bloody nipped in the bud since it was blown out of preportion over typical female interactions.

Ash and Dawn are young kids, which makes it implausible to my mind that they'd be able to be that at ease with each other if they fancied each other. Especially since both of the previous main ships for Pokemon involved a load of awkwardness. In contrast, a ton of pairs who aren't romantically interested in each other are also physically close and not shy about demonstrating it - Ash and Pikachu are always hugging, and so are Jessie, James and Meowth. It makes sense that Ash and Dawn are comfortable with each other because they have no sexual tension. Just like Ash and May.

A one-off tiff is unlikely to be symptomatic of UST unless the writers specifically connect the argument to romance. Ash and Misty’s quarrels are used as Pokéshipping evidence because they bicker all the time, over the tiniest provocations. Same goes for May and Drew. Ash and Dawn don’t argue often enough for it to be suspicious.

Ikarishipping is pure fanon compared even to Pearlshipping, so bringing up Dawn and Shinji’s single moment of interaction isn’t a great argument.

Not all couples in creation have to have sexual tension in order for them to work out in the end jo-jo, some couples can form by not having it, not saying it's gonna happen here definitely but it could.

This isn't the first time Dawn's yelled at Ash you know.

It doesn't matter how many times people argue jo-jo, the fact is people out there will take every argument a "couple" has to heart as evidence for thier ship, not to mention we've just scratched the surface of this saga, who knows how many more times Ash and Dawn could end up arguing between now and the end of it.

For the record, i don't recall any times May and Drew argued with each other, it was more one yelling at the other than it going both ways.

It is really too early to say how Ash and Dawn relationship will turn out. It would be an interesting plot twist if the writers make Ash and Dawn fall for each other rather than doing the already seen main girl x rival.
