Dawn's Mother?

Does it bother anyone else that Dawn's mother looks younger than Dawn? Her face looks younger, and her body especially looks the same as Dawn's.. It always kinda creeps me out when they're on the screen at the same time.

When I first saw Ayako's artwork on official Pokemon DP Anime site I thought she's the same age as Hikari. However, reading the text next to the artwork informed me that she's actually her mother. That was sure a shock.

I guess she had one big night in her youth.
 
Dawn's mother is the worst design for a female parent in the series. I know she's from the game, but still.
 
Regarding her face; Isn't it identical to practically every other female character on the show who isn't in their twilight years? Even Delia falls under the same cookie-cutter.
Other than that, I don't really see where you're coming from.


I don't think she's badly designed, per se, since the garments are streotypically motherly imo, moreso than a lot of other parents we've seen. That hair is atrocious though, especially that of her younger self. Ick.
 
Delia should not be disgraced in such a way. There's no reason that milf of her class should be placed in a category with Dawn's mum.


The primary thing that sucks about her is that awful shag haircut from way back when. I hate how she even has it as a child. It's hideous.
 
When a woman has a daughter without the aid of a male, it's going to be a clone. With better hair.
 
I'd say something, but making fun of a character's design when you already dislike them is just low.
 
its not weird to have a short mother my older brothers are than my mother and i have a lot of short women just because she is as tall as her daughter that doesn't make her some science experiment.
 
I'll be honest, I find Ayako's design very trippy. I think it's an awesome design because it's just so weird. The only thing is that her hair defies logic and I hate when anime hair defies logic. I'm ok with gravity defying but when it cant even be mimicked in 3d, it crosses a line.
 
Well her design is directly taken from the games, so Sugimori is the one who created her.

I do like Delia, Caroline and Brock's mother a lot more. They actually look like normal people.

Is it just me or does Dawn's mother look anorexic at times? Its like her frame is way too thin, even ignoring her mop head.
