You have Dawn's Piplup's gender marked down as "unknown". However, I just watched DP011 (Mounting a Coordinator Assault) and at the end of Piplup's preformance, Nurse Joy referred to Piplup as a "he". This was in the English dub.

Thought you might like to know. :)

its probaly a he in japan also it seems that its a Boy dosent it?

Technically...no. Ya see, there's no way to indirectly infer the gender of a character in Japan because "-kun" and "-chan" are both used for children.

Well, I didn't catch it... uhm... but if it says it's a guy, then... well, go on and put "confirmed in dub only". Just don't expect everyone to jump on it right away... some people will ask for more proof.

Piplups's a Guy, Pikachu's a guy, it's been heavily suggested. No M0ar debates on this! (lol)

I don't remember ever hearing a pokemon referred to with any honorific in Japan, nor do I remember a specific time when they refer directly to it's gender, but with out a doubt it is male.

It's been changed.

On the suffix discussion: The Munchlax in May's return episode was called "Gonbe-chan" but the regular Pokémon usually don't get suffixes. It is also true that they aren't a 100% accurate indication of actual gender: Solana is "Hinata-kun" to Kellyn. The point raised by ThatKid could easily be applied to any of the small Pokémon so that Munchlax could be a boy for all we know.

The trouble with Pokémon genders is that they are usually purely subjective. You can say that some act masculine (Bulbasaur) or feminine (Chikorita) but that doesn't mean their gender is canon. The gender of the probably-male Pikachu is argued over a lot, which shows that it isn't as clear-cut as some people like to think. So unless we are outright told (or can clearly see the gender difference of a Pokémon that wasn't around before DP), Bulbapedia takes the easy route and calls them "unknown".

its a male as in the episode with the evil togepi, togepi used attract and all the pokemon were affected except for jessie's yanmega.

and I think we know yanmega is a female because togepi was a female(I think)
