Source.

In June/July, DC are killing off Batman. Or rather, Bruce Wayne. Robin will inherit the Batman cowl. One of the Robins anyway. Tim Drake. Jason Todd. Or possibly Red Hood. Hey, maybe Jean-Paul Valley, it has been ten years since Azrael.

Either way, the book will relaunch with a nice shiny #1.

Yes, didn't Captain America miss a trick there? I'm sure Marvel will do the same come 2009.

And what of Batwoman? Well, I'm told the launch of the Rucka/Williams series has been pushed back yet again because of the movie, and fears of "unacceptable media coverage." I'm told four issues are fully completed.

Apparently it's okay for Batman to be dead, and a new character take his place when there's a movie out. But not for Batwoman to be a lesbian. At least wait till it's gone to DVD for that brunette bombshell.

I'm reminded of the Warner Bros executive instruction to Grant Morrison and Dave McKean over "Arkham Asylum," that the Joker not be seen dressing up as Madonna in case the cinema audience believed that meant Jack Nicholson was a transvestite.

While only getting the "yellow" light, meaning the "likelihood isn't set", it's still an interesting rumor. Not like DC's ever been afraid to screw over Batman (Bane breaking his back, anyone?) or kill off a major icon (do I REALLY need to say his name, even if he TECHNICALLY didn't die?). And, with the major windfall Marvel got from offing Cap, this could do quite a bit to push the Dark Knight's release. Should be interesting to see how valid this is.

There's going to be a Batwoman movie?

Should I expect to end up having to sit through Catwoman again then? Eugh.

Death means nothing in any comic, even when the original identity of superhero dies and someone else takes the reins. However, old Brucy being gone would be signicant.

It was a joke. They created Batwoman as this new lesbian character, and then she just vanished. Appears the belief is that she's being kept in hiding so as not to hurt ticket sales for Dark Knight.

Not quite. It CAN mean nothing. Death is just a plot device. To say it's "nothing" is like saying EVERY plot device is "nothing." While it CAN be undone, that's never the point, the point is HOW it's done, WHY it's done, and whether it works.

lol, Batman was my first guess, but it was a sarcastic one

Lame. Especially since there are four Robins running around now and two are evil. :drowsy: The whole series is falling to craptacularness.

YAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY(broken into fragments for breathing)

i can't stress enough how much this pleases me. i hate batman and killing him has just made my Christmas.

i only regret i didn't find out sooner.

Spoiler's evil?

No, Damian Wayne, the evil son of Talia and Batman brought out of a comic book limbo's orphanage is evil.

Update (scroll down to first headline).

Last week's rumour about Batman kicking the Batbucket to be replaced by a sidekick is kicking up steam. As Valerie D'Orazio picks up on, the original plan was for all the main DC icons to die and be elevated to the status of New Gods as part of the Fifth World, their sidekicks filling the roles they left behind.

However, that plan was abandoned internally at DC and reduced to a Bat-storyline by Grant Morrison. So look for Bruce Wayne New God to go head-to-head with Darkseid in "Final Crisis."

Another new update.

Looks like IF this ends up being true, the new Batman will be
Jason Todd.
Who's going to design the new Batman? Alex Ross, of course.

This is all part of a cross-continuity, longform story by Grant Morrison and in terms of structure bears similarity to his New X-Men, but on a far wider scale. It sounds rather good.
