Did anyone notice how Delia has had less major roles in the anime as the show went on?

Delia's last big role was Movie 3, and Delia did get quite a lot of screentime during late Kanto and also appeared in Orange's movie. However since then Delia has been pretty sidelined in the anime, does anyone notice the only time we see her anymore is at the very end of a saga?

We almost never see Ash call his mother anymore, its always just Oak. She also doesn't appear at Ash's tournaments anymore, like she did for both the Indigo and Johto league.

I don't know if the writers did this because Ash is more mature now and doesn't need to call his Mommy every 5 minutes like he used to, but she barely appears in the anime anymore.

What? She doesn't come to watch him in the Leagues because it isn't close to her anymore... not because Ash "doesn't need her"
That's the same reason why Caroline came to the Hoenn GF but didn't come to the Kanto one
I thought this was the reason why Delibird disppaered during Hoenn and came back in Kanto but... it appeared in Sinnoh so I don't know

Delia also could have come to watch Ash's final Frontier Brain match with Brandon, since it was right in Kanto, but she didn't come there either.

I guess if it's not a big tournament than it doesn't seem as important
And for the movies - the AG/DP ones have much less to do with the show itself than the previous ones...
For the show itself there's really nothing for her to do and no reason to suddenly appear in regions like Hoenn and Sinnoh
She isn't really that important character... Oak also isn't that important and don't appear that much
To me it looks like except the main characters the only ones that are really "important" are the rivals... the others even if recurring characters or related to main characters don't really appear much or do anything (and it's allright since they really doesn't have anything to do with the story right now)

Like you said, Ash matured. He doesnt need his Mommy and Daddy Oak there all the time. Plus, in Sinnoh, they can always call up Rowan for any thing they need to know (although they havent) He is local and knows more about Sinnoh than Oak probably does. And, since Dawn is the n00b now, theres always Johanna.

Maybe Delias just getting bored with the tournaments or something. The excitement of her son being a trainer wore off, and she doesnt feel the need to see him so ofter (even though she cryed like a baby when he left for Sinnoh)

Or maybe she knows that Ash has good friends to take care of him now.

Delia was pretty one dimensional. There are beter characters that deserve the screentime more than her (obligatory Nando reference).

Oak appears at the end of nearly every Japanese episode.

There could be a filler where Delia visits a COTD in Sinnoh.

Last big role? More like only, most of the other times she appeared in the anime, she doesn't really do mych either, its always been a minor role.

Besides, Ash is "older" now, and the anime seems to focus more on the Dawn and Johana relationship more than the Ash and Delia one.

A lot of the older characters don't show up any more, I wonder why that is...

Yeah, but she was just like Oak as a supporting role. We actually constantly see Oak via either the phone calls or his appearances in every season, yet Delia has pretty much fizzled out entirely.

Movie 3 was quite a big role for her in that sense, and since then she's only appeared for those short Pallet reunions.

Technically, she also appeared in "When Pokeworlds collide" in that phone call at Rowans lab.

*waits for Blackjack to see this topic*

Anyways, I suspect that she knows that her son is responsible so she doesn't have to tail him as much. That or since she was a relatively minor Kanto character, her appearance in Sinnoh was simply less relevant.

Delia appears in the credits of Giratina & The Sky Warrior alongside Johanna and Brock's family. It's small but it does count for something...

Someone summoned me?

Anyway, Delia's like the Molly Weasley of Pokémon. Kind and motherly, and ready to open whup-ass that she canned herself should the need arise. And she needs more screen time.

However, she's considerably more developed than her game counterpart. But that's kinda sad.

Delia was also in a couple of Chronicles episodes that gave her a bit of development. (She actually used Mr. Mime for stuff other than housework for one thing.)

But the fact remains that she is and has always been a minor character. She stays at home and misses Ash but knows that he is a big boy now. Meanwhile, Ash is more interested in giving his news to Professor Oak, an important character from the games. What is she supposed to do?

Also, I don't call Ash not phoning home a sign of maturity. I certainly don't recall him doing it every five minutes... or ever after episode 2. Delia's appearances have always been when Ash is in Pallet or with Professor Oak.

How is that sad? it's a standard RPG rule.

If the main character's parent (they usually only have one), isn't named, and only known as "(hero's name)'s mom" then she would have no role in the main plot aside from a minor one very early in the game.

I'm begining to think that you guys purposely find things to nitpick over.

The only important role games Mom ever had are those mentioned by PDL and giving money, dolls to us in GSC. You won't expect the game Mom to go and watch you battle the E4 or to capture a Pokémon to do housework. (We do have some Machamp/Slaking/something like that to move our furniture when we first arrive but they only temporarily workers)

You forgot that your mom does contests in DP, but she's actually named "Johanna" so that doesn't really count.

*gapes* What? I highly disagree. Absolutely not in the anime. It's more...sublime.

Are the games supposed to be in a higher standard than the anime? I thought they were separate things.
