Thanks Blazaking for the epic sprites and banner!

Hey! This is my first fan fic ever. Chapters will be added as I write them, and I would prefer that all reviews wait until all chapters are finished, but if you really want to, feel free to review whatever I have. This fic will be funny at times, sad at others, and full of action most of the time.

I am hoping to have the main character(s?) travel all across the pokemon world. After the Fenn Volume is over, the story will advance to another region (one that's already created by GF mind you). Each Volume of this FF will have 20-30 chapters, so who knows how long it will be in the end.

These stories follow the protagonist, Derrick, nicknamed Deez, by his best friend Wade. They live in the region of Fenn. A tropical region in the South, with rainforests, oceans all around, lakes, and snowy topped mountains. In a small town called Alphton, lives Professor Cyprus, a hardened old man who used to be a renowned pokemon trainer and breeder. When children in Alphton turn 13, they receive a pokemon as a gift, personally bred by Prof. Cyprus, so they can begin their own adventure as a trainer, start a daycare as a breeder, or just have a pet. This year, Derrick and Wade are the only kids in town who are turning 13 so they are expecting the pick of the litter at Prof. Cyprus' house. However, the Professor has been in poor health since an accident he had while doing research in the Kanto Region last year just after handing out pokemon to the kids of Alphton, so this could be his last year to bless children with the gifts of power, happiness, and wisdom...

Prologue
Alphton, the day before Prof. Cyprus is supposed to hand out pokemon.
"Deez! There you are!"
Wade walked down the street towards Derrick's yard, grinning with excitement.

"Hey Wade, I guess you're pretty excited about tomorrow then?" said Derrick.

"Tomorrow?" asked Wade.

"Seriously, how forgetful is this kid?" Derrick thought silently.
"C'mon man, don't tell me you forgot about it! We get our pokemon tomorrow! We can finally live our dream of exploring Fenn together like we have since we were little kids!" Derrick exclaimed.

"Oh, pff, yeah I remember. I, uh, thought you meant something totally different, hehe." Wade says, blushing, "So what do you think Cyprus has in store for us this year? Last year, the six kids got Grass types. Remember how awesome that Leafeon that Jackson got was?"

"Yeah, that was great. I heard Jackson used it on the Villa Town gym and won! Anyway, I'm sure Prof. Cyprus won't dissapoint us, he has so many pokemon in storage. Personally, I'm hoping for a fire type maybe, perhaps a steel type like Aron or something!" Derrick said, looking into the distance, and imagining his future.

"Well, personally, I want anything strong. I don't care what it is as long as it can do some serious damage to the gyms of Fenn!" Wade yelled.

"Any pokemon can be strong as long as you train it right, Wade."

"Well, it doesn't hurt to have one that's strong before you even start training it!" laughed Wade. "Maybe I'll get something like a Gible or a Larvitar!"

"Keep dreaming, man. I'm sure we'll get something good, Cyprus never dissapoints." Derrick said, secretly hoping for the same thing Wade was, "Well, you know, we better get home and into bed, it's already dark. Don't sleep in!"

"Don't worry! Later dude." Said Wade, walking back towards his house.

They both went home, and jumped into bed immediately. Wade fell asleep right away, donning his normal cocky attitude. Derrick, on the other hand, was full of nervous energy, going over all of the possibilities in his head. 493 pokemon to choose from and I get one of them. He finally went to sleep, his dreams full of pokemon and his friend, Wade. The next day was sure to be the greatest of his life.

Chapter 1: A Journey Begins...

Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn
Chapter 1: A journey begins...

Outside Derrick's house, the morning that Prof. Cyprus is giving away pokemon.

Derrick walks outside and sees Wade sitting on the fence in front of his house.

"Hey, Wade. You ready to go?"

"What do you think!?!?" Wade said excitedly.

They walked to Prof. Cyprus' lab, talking about all the pokemon they might get, and the first places they would go on their journey together. They discussed gym battles, and even dreamed of one day facing the Elite 4. As they approached Prof. Cyprus' house, they noticed a car outside that they had never seen before.

They knocked on the door and were met by a man, probably in his thirties, and weeping heavily.

"Yes? What do you need?" the mysterious man sobbed.

"Um, we were supposed to receive pokemon from Prof. Cyprus today..." Wade said, a little uncertain of what to make of this.

"I'm sorry, but the professor won't be able to give out pokemon today, he's very ill. It doesn't look good, I'm going to have to ask you to lea-"

"Son! Let them in! Even in my condition, a pokemon professor must always continue his work!" The voice of Prof. Cyprus echoed from down the hall of the house.

"Condition?" Derrick asked Prof. Cyprus' son.

"Yes. Surely you know about his accident in Kanto? Well, he is having complications stemming from that. It doesn't look like he will be with us much longer." said his son, "My name is Jared, by the way."

"Derrick..."

"And Wade..."

The boys were too shocked to formulate anything more than their names.

They arrived in Prof. Cyprus' room and saw him lying in his bed, his trusty Bagon by his side.

"Hello children!" Cyprus said, coughing, "I expect you are here to receive your pokemon?"

"Yes professor, but if you aren't feeling up to it, we can come back later." said Derrick.

"No, no Derrick. I'm afraid there won't be a later for me. This is your last chance to get a pokemon." Cyprus said weakly.

"So whadda we get!?" Wade said.

"Wade!" Derrick said, surprised by his friend's rudeness.

"Hahaha! Eager! I like that in a *cough* young man. However, I have more bad news. My condition *cough* has prevented me from catching any new pokemon for you two. I had only one in storage. This young Ralts that I captured on my second visit to Hoenn, is for you Wade." Cyprus said, gesturing towards a pokeball on his desk.

Wade grabbed the ball and ran out of the room, probably expressing his gratitude, but whatever he said was muffled by slamming doors and the sound of his rapid footsteps.

"Such an excitable young boy, er, man." said Cyprus, his eyes on Derrick now, "Now, for you Derrick. I have watched you from the time you were very young. A fine young man you have become in these last 10 years. You know that your father and I were very good friends before, well, you know. I remember when I gave him his first pokemon, a Machop I believe? Anyway, I want you to have a special pokemon since your family means so much to me."

Derrick and Prof. Cyprus had never really talked much, but his parents were very good friends with the professor before his father's death when Derrick was 7.

"I would like you to have my most trusted assistant and partner. My Bagon." Cyprus said.

"Your Bagon? Isn't it too old to battle?" asked Derrick.

"No, no. He isn't as old as he seems, just a youngster actually. I received him from a breeder in Hoenn last year. Anyway, the point is, he is yours now. He is the most disciplined partner I have ever had, very intelligent and strong-willed, much like you Derrick." Cyprus told Derrick.

"Wow professor, thank you so much! Will you be okay?" asked Derrick.

"No, I'm afraid I won't be. My time is up, but I've had a good run. My son will take care of me, for the short time I'm still here. Now go! An adventure with your best friend is awaiting you just outside my front door. Explore Fenn, and make a name for yourself." Cyprus said, his eyes now getting glazed and teary.

"I guess I'll go professor. Thanks again, and bye. I'm sure Wade is thankful too, haha."

The professor lay there, his eyes closed. He didn't respond.

The smile was now gone from Derrick's face.

"I think you should probably go Derrick." Jared said, putting his arm around Derrick and leading him toward the door.

Derrick walked outside, fastening the pokeball holding his newly received pokemon to his belt, just in time to see Wade in the midst of a battle with a wild Wurmple. The Wurmple sprayed a String Shot at Wade's Ralts, coating it with a sticky web. Wurmple then tackled Ralts, knocking it to the ground.

"Get up Ralts! C'mon and get him!" Wade yelled.

Ralts jumped up, just in time to evade another Tackle.

"Ralts! Use Confusion!"

Ralts focused on the Wurmple and blasted him with an unseen force. The Wurmple stepped back, dazed from Ralts' attack.

"Quick Ralts! While he's confused, use Tackle!"

Ralts tackled Wurmple with great force, knocking it out. Wade and Ralts had just experienced not only their first battle, but also their first victory.

"Nice job!" Derrick yelled from the front porch of Prof. Cyprus' house.

Wade turned around, startled, and still happy from the previous battle.

"Did you see all that, Deez? We totally took that thing down! Hey, let's go down to the Pokemart so I can get a Potion for Ralts, he's looking a little tired after all that.

Wade took off down the road, leaving his friend behind.

"I guess he's still too excited about getting a pokemon." said Derrick, "Meet you there!" he yelled down the road.

When he arrived at the Pokemart, Wade was outside and had just finished healing up Ralts.

"He's not the strongest pokemon I've ever seen, but I guess he'll do." said Wade, nose in the air.

"Come on, he's a psychic type! Those are strong aren't they?"

"Some are, yeah. But this little guy? He's scrawny. I'm going to have to really work to make a battler out of him." Wade said, looking almost dissapprovingly at Ralts.

Ralts looked down to the ground saddened by his trainer's words.

"Wade! Be nice! Look at your Ralts, he's totally sad now.." Derrick said.

"Oh... Hey, I'm joking! You know me, haha. Anyway, I totally forgot to ask, what did Cyprus give you?" Wade asked his friend.

"You'll never believe it! He gave me his partner. He gave me Bagon! Isn't that great?" exclaimed Derrick.

"..." The smile faded from Wade's face.

"What's the matter?" Derrick asked.

"You got a Bagon? Those are incredibly powerful..." said Wade, "I wanted something powerful! All I got was this little Ralts! You're the one who's always going on about not caring what you get because 'all pokemon are great in their own way'!" Wade said in a mocking tone.

"Wade, what's wrong with you?" Derrick asked, worried by Wade's anger.

"Whatever, it's obvious that Cyprus favored you. He always has. It's only natural that you got the best pokemon he had. I don't have time for this crap." said Wade, "I'm out of here."

"What about us? What about going on an adventure together? It was our dream!" yelled Derrick.

"Well, maybe it's your dream now. Maybe I'll see you down the road, but right now, I don't want to see you at all. I'm off to Villa Town, and to train this little runt until he can do me some good."

Wade got onto his bike and rode off into the distance.

Derrick stood there, stunned by the direction the conversation had taken. Wade had gone from his best friend, to a totally jealous, power hungry fool, in 5 minutes. Hopefully, he will have cooled off by the time they see each other again.

Derrick, without a bike, started walking down the road, wishing that his adventure had started any other way, and with his friend, but instead it started with him walking alone, with the entire region of Fenn in front of him. He let his Bagon out of the pokeball.

"Looks like it's just you and me for awhile, buddy." Derrick said, patting Bagon on the head.

They walked down the road, side by side, and made their way towards Villa Town. Villa Town is home to the first gym of Fenn. The Water Type trainer, Benson, is the leader of the gym.

"I guess we better get started training first thing tomorrow if we want to be able to beat Benson." Derrick said to Bagon.

Bagon looked up at his trainer approvingly, ready to start training. Bagon had never actually been in a battle, Prof. Cyprus had only used him as a research assistant, but Derrick didn't know this. Both Bagon and Derrick were anxious to have their first battle the next day, and were extremely nervous about starting their adventure with only each other to rely on...

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn

You could have waited longer than 90 minutes to power the next chapter...

I imagine that a Ralts and a Bagon are going to be hard to train.

Chapter 2: Arrival in Villa Town

Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn
Chapter 2: Arrival in Villa Town

Route 302, just South of Villa Town...

"Great job, Bagon!" exclaimed Derrick.

Derrick has spent the entire day training with Bagon, fighting the local wild pokemon, and hasn't lost a battle yet! However, the thrill of victory isn't quite as sweet as it would be with Wade here training beside him. Who knows, Wade could have already beaten Benson and be on his way to the next gym.

"Very nice, Bagon." Derrick told Bagon, tossing him a poffin, "You're doing a great job so far, we havn't even lost! I think with a little more training, we could even face Benson!"

They walked into town to get some supplies from the local Pokemart. When they got there, Derrick filled his bag with Potions, Antidotes, and most imporantly, Pokeballs. He decided that since he had been training his Bagon a lot, he needed to make his team have a few more types in it, and with the first gym being water type, he wanted to catch something that would help him beat them, like an electric or grass type.

They decided to go train a little more on Route 302, and maybe look for something to use against Benson. They were walking down the road to their old training spot when they heard someone yelling through the bushes. They rushed over to find a kid being attacked by a swarm of wild Beedrill.

"Help me!" shouted the child.

"Hang on, I'm coming! Bagon! Get those Beedrill away from from him!" yelled Derrick.

Bagon went out to fight the Beedrill, while Derrick ran over to where the kid was hiding.

"Get up. Go wait over there by my stuff!" Derrick told the kid.

The kid nodded and ran over to where Derrick's bag was. Meanwhile, Derrick started commanding Bagon.

"Bagon, keep them off of you!" yelled Derrick, "When they swoop in close, use Bite!"

Just then, a Beedrill flew down trying to sting Bagon. Bagon dodged and landed a nasty Bite on it.

"Great job Bagon, keep it up!" Derrick exclaimed.

But just after that, two Beedrill simultaneously landed two Poison Stings on Bagon. Bagon tried getting up but struggled as the two remaining Beedrill assaulted him from all sides. As Derrick uselessly called out commands, Bagon's mouth began to glow a shade of redish orange. Then, all of a sudden, Bagon let loose an incredibly powerful Ember, hitting both of the Beedril. All three Beedrill lay on the ground, knocked out. Bagon was very badly injured from the battle, so Derrick went over with a potion and antidote and healed him up.

"Wow, Bagon great job! You learned Ember!" said Derrick excitedly.

Bagon looked very weak, so Derrick decided to take him to the pokecenter. As they left the area, the kid from earlier came over to where they stood.

"Wow, nice battling, you really had my back." the kid told them.

"It was nothing, are you OK?" asked Derrick.

"Sure, I'm fine. It looks like your Bagon needs some help though. Let's take him to my brother, he's way better than any Pokecenter." said the kid, "By the way, my name is Nathan"

"I'm Derrick. Do you guys live in Villa Town?"

"Yep! It's a short walk from here." Nathan said.

So they walked back to Villa Town, and made their way to Nathan's house.

"Here we are, Derrick. This is my house." said Nathan, walking into the house, "And this, is my brother, Benson!"

"Hey there! I'm Benson! Thanks a lot for saving my brother, we tell him not to leave the town since he doesn't have his own pokemon yet, but he sneaks out sometimes."

"Wow, Benson! I'm actually here because of you! Well, to challenge you. I just got my first pokemon- a Bagon -and we want to challenge the gyms of Fenn!"

"All eight gyms, huh? That's quite a goal. Well, I guess I am the first step on your journey, so if you can fight me like you fought those Beedrill out there, I look forward to challenging you! Say, your Bagon looks a little weak from the battle, how about I take him to the back so he can rest?" asked Benson.

"Sounds great, thanks!" said Derrick.

Benson went into a room with Bagon, and when he came back, Bagon wasn't with him.

"No problem for the guy who saved my little bro. So when do you plan on facing me?" Benson questioned.

"Well, right now it's just me and Bagon, so I was planning on catching another pokemon first."

"Really? Well, I wouldn't do this for most people...But you did save my brother! The best place to catch pokemon around these parts is Route 303, just North of here. There are several types of pokemon there so you have a lot of options! It's a dead end, and a lot of wild pokemon have made their home there."

"Thanks for the tip! When will Bagon be ready to leave?" asked Derrick.

"Say, he should be about ready by now, I'll go get him." said Benson.

Benson went into the room again, this time returning with a much healthier looking Bagon. Bagon smiled and ran over to Derrick and hugged him.

"Thanks again Benson, I guess I'm off to Route 303 then!" Derrick told Benson, "Next time I see you, I'll be ready to battle!"

"I sure hope so! Good luck at Route 303!"

So they left to catch a pokemon to use against Benson. They stopped by the Pokemart again and bought a few more pokeballs.

When they got to Route 303, they saw that Benson had been truthful. Wild pokemon in all directions, Pidgey, Butterfree, and so many more roamed the wide-open area. They began walking through the grass in search of something to combat Benson's water type team.

After fighting a few battles with some weak bug types, Derrick spotted a wild Elekid running around in the distance.

"Woah! Bagon, look! There's an Elekid over there, we could use his electric attacks to fight Benson! C'mon Bagon, let's fight it!"

So they ran over to where Elekid was. As soon as Elekid saw them, he ran away towards the taller trees. They gave chase and eventually cornered it. Elekid realized it was stuck, so it took a fighting stance.

"Alright Bagon, looks like we're fighting him."

As soon as Bagon walked toward Elekid, he got hit but a Thundershock from Elekid.

"Woah, careful Bagon, this one is tough!" Derrick told Bagon, "Okay, use ember!"

Bagon let loose a stream of fire from his mouth that met Elekid right on the torso. Elekid was knocked off of his feet, but he quickly got up and launched another Thundershock at Bagon. This time, Bagon dodged it!

"Great dodge Bagon, now charge at him and use Bite!"

Bagon ran towards Elekid and bit him hard, causing him to backpedal in pain. He staggered to get up, but flinched due to Bagon's powerful bite. Derrick saw this as the perfect occasion to throw a pokeball. The ball twitched a few times and then was still. Derrick had caught his first pokemon!

"Great job, Bagon! We caught him! Let's get back to town and take him to the Pokecenter." said Derrick.

They left Route 303 and headed back to Villa Town with the newest addition to their team, Elekid. When they got into the Pokecenter, they met Benson who was walking out.

"Hey there, Derrick! Did you catch anything at Route 303?" he asked.

"Sure did! I caught an Elekid!" exclaimed Derrick.

"Really? I'm impressed, really. I didn't even know that we had Elekid around here. For such a new trainer to catch a pokemon that rare is quite a feat. I may have trouble beating you!" laughed Benson.

"I hope so. I'm going to train Bagon and my new Elekid at Route 302 after we're done here, so I can really be a threat!" said Derrick.

"Good luck, and I'll see you tomorrow!"

Benson left and Derrick let his pokemon rest awhile at the Pokecenter. He saw a group of trainers siting around a table, to the left of the desk and he decided to go talk to them.

"Hey guys, what's going on?" he asked them.

"Not a lot, we're just resting our pokemon..." said one of the male trainers.

"All of you? Do you guys train together or something?" Derrick asked them.

"No. All of our pokemon got knocked out by this crazy trainer who came through earlier today. He was really, really strong." said another trainer.

"Really? Wow, he must've been really strong to have KO'd all of your pokemon." said Derrick.

"Yeah, he and his Ralts were tough." said a female trainer.

"Wait a minute, did you say he had a Ralts?" Derrick asked, worried.

"Yeah. And his Rhyhorn was pretty tough too." said the first trainer.

By then, Derrick's pokemon were ready to go so he left for Route 302.

"Wow, it looks like Wade's been training a lot lately. And he's already caught another tough pokemon. I wonder if he beat Benson yet?" Derrick thought to himself.

Derrick's thoughts were soon interupted by a shadowy figure that walked onto the road.

"'Sup Deez." said a voice that came from the figure. Wade stepped into the light, his Ralts, with a new look on his face, one of great determination, stood right beside him.

"Wade, how are you? I heard you beat a lot of trainers in Villa Town. That's great! Listen, are you still mad about what happened in Alphton?" he asked Wade.

"Mad? No, not mad. That arguement made me realize a lot. I can't rely on you, or anyone for that matter, anymore. It's just me and my pokemon from here on out. We're going to be a force to be reckoned with from now on. We already beat all those weak trainers and that big shot Gym Leader. We're on our way to the next gym to beat that leader now. But since you're here, why don't you entertain us?" he toyed with Derrick.

"Wade, stop acting like this."

"Like what? This is the new me. Accept it. Now c'mon, let's battle." Wade retorted.

"Fine. We will battle you, and we will win."

"Please, have you even fought a trainer yet? Whatever, as long as my pokemon get stronger." Wade coldly stated, "C'mon Rhyhorn, let's beat these guys!"

Wade threw a pokeball on the ground and a giant rock pokemon came out and roared. The Rhyhorn was the biggest pokemon Derrick had seen so far. He couldn't believe that Wade had caught it.

"Alright then, let's get him Bagon!" And Bagon stepped forward to fight the Rhyhorn. "OK! Use Ember on it Bagon!", and Bagon blasted fiery breath onto the rock hide of Wade's Rhyhorn. The Rhyhorn just stood there and took the hit, without even wincing.

"Hahaha, you really think that weak fire attack can hurt my Rhyhorn? Rhyhorn! Use Rock Blast!" Wade shouted. And Rhyhorn started launching rock after rock at Bagon, Bagon dodged them and then Derrick yelled, "Ok, good dodge! Now use Headbutt!"

Bagon ran full force at Rhyhorn and knocked him over on his side with a powerful Headbutt. Rhyhorn struggled to get up but couldn't.

"OK! Now he's down, use Ember on his underside!" said Derrick. And Bagon let loose a jet of fire at the Rhyhorn's belly. The Rhyhorn was clearly knocked out by this powerful attack.

"What!? That was cheap. Anyway, come on out Ralts!" shouted Wade, and his Ralts emerged from a pokeball.

Ralts had a much different look about him. He looked more experienced, more powerful, and... meaner? Bagon stared intently at his new opponent.

"Alright Bagon, he's only got one pokemon left. Let's beat him so he can leave us alone!" yelled Derrick. "Use another Ember on him!"

Bagon let another stream of fire out towards Ralts, but this newer, stronger Ralts easily dodged it. "Nice one Ralts, now use Confusion!" Unlike the Wurmple from before, Bagon was lifted into the air and thrown backwards. Ralts' Confusion had become a lot more powerful since the last time Derrick had seen him use it.

"Bagon! Are you ok?"

Bagon was not ok. He was knocked out by just one of Ralts' Confusions.

"Ok, it looks like it's just you and Ralts, Elekid." said Derrick.

Derrick threw his remaining pokeball out and his unused, and untrained Elekid emerged.

"OK Elekid, use Thundershock!" and Elekid shot a bolt of electricity at Ralts. Ralts wasn't quick enough to dodge this, and fell to the ground in pain. He got up and Wade yelled "Alright use another Confusion on him!" But as Ralts started using the attack, he was stopped by paralysis caused by the Thundershock he had just taken.

"Now's your chance Elekid! While he's down, hit him with a Low Kick!" and Elekid ran towards Ralts and landed a brutal sliding kick on ralts, knocking it out. "Elekid, return!"

"You've got to be kidding me. My Ralts got beaten by that little thing? Get up Ralts, you've got a lot more training to do, and so do you Rhyhorn." he told his worn out pokemon, "We'll see you later Deez. Next time you see us, we won't be so easy to beat."

And with that Wade took off on his bike down the road. Derrick, proud of his pokemon for beating his rival, and especially proud of his Elekid for winning his first battle against a really tough pokemon, took them once more to the Pokecenter and decided to stay there for the night too.

The next day would be a busy one for Derrick and the team. Elekid had to be trained a lot to be on par with Benson's team, and Derrick was scheduled to have his first gym battle against the water type trainer. But with their first win under their belt, they felt confident and ready to fight.

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn

Okay....

Slow down on posting chapters, trust me. As a bunch of people once wisely told me, Post a Chapter about every 2-3 days. Give your readers a chance to actually read on their own time.

This has potential. I like that you have a new region, but if it is a new Region then are there new Pokemon? Bagon and Ralts as starters is okay because, personally I think you handled it well with the dying proffessor. I'll update my review tomorrow 8/1/10 because I'm tired.

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn

Thanks for the advice and criticism. I guess I will post less frequently, I was just really bored today so I wrote a bunch hehe. I think I'll go ahead and write some more tonight and just keep rest in Word or something.

Oh, and as for the new pokemon, Fenn is sort of like...a pokemon ranger video game region. Yes its a different place, but the pokemon there are a mix of all the generations. In Fenn, they will encounter pokemon from all areas of the pokemon world. They already have seen Bagon (3rd gen), Elekid (2nd gen), and lots of gen 1 pokemon. And there will be some Gen 4 pokemon in the upcoming chapter.

Thanks again for the advice! This is my first FF so Im very open.

Chapter 3: Derrick Vs. Benson!

Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn
Chapter 3: Derrick Vs. Benson!

The Villa Town Pokecenter...

"*YAWN* Morning, Bagon, morning Elekid." Both pokemon woke up, eager to train today. They're well-rested from the previous night's sleep, and full of energy. "We better get moving if we're going to fight Benson today. Let's head on over to Route 302."

Derrick and the team left the pokecenter and headed South towards their favorite training area. As Derrick and Bagon walked down the road, they heard a voice call out to them.

"Hey trainer! Wanna battle?" They heard the voice of one of the trainers from the pokecenter yesterday. "My pokemon are all healed up and I'm looking to challenge someone!"

"Sure thing! I'm actually looking to challenge someone too, my Elekid needs some training." Derrick replied.

"Awesome ok, we can battle right here! Go Skorupi!" Shouted the trainer. A small, purple skorpion came out of the ball, looking excited to battle.

"Let's go, c'mon Elekid!" Derrick threw his pokeball and Elekid jumped out, ready for action.

"Alright, Skorupi! Get in close and use Bite!" The trainer's Skorupi ran, faster than expected, towards Elekid and landed a nasty bite on him. Elekid shook him off and regained composure.

"Elekid, hit it with a Thundershock!" shouted Derrick, and Elekid blasted Skorupi with a wicked jolt of electricity. Skorupi was still a bit stunned by the blast, but still managed to dodge Elekid's next Thundershock.

"Skorupi, hit him with a few Pin Missiles!" the trainer yelled. And Skorupi started launching needles from it's tail. Elekid dodged the first few, but ended up being hit by one at the end. Skorupi ran in while Elekid was still a bit taken aback by receiving damage and landed a nasty Poison Sting.

Then, Elekid, without being commanded, launched another Thundershock at Skorupi. Skorupi tried dodging, but everywhere it ran, the bolt of lighting followed it.

"Woah, that's not Thundershock, that's Shock Wave!" exclaimed Derrick.

The Shock Wave finally chased the Skorupi down, landing massive damage on the scorpion pokemon. The Skorupi staggered and finally got up, but by the time he did, another Shock Wave was coming his way and hit him hard. Skorupi was KO'd.

"Wha...?" the trainer struggled to find words, "Wow, you're really good! My name's Gregory, call me Greg."

"Nice to meet you! I'm Derrick, do you live here?" he said as they walked nearer to each other on the sidewalk.

"Yeah I live here, boring old Villa Town. Probably the smallest town in Fenn, it's lucky we even have a Pokecenter. What about you, where are you from?" Greg asked.

"Alphton. You think you have it bad, this place seems like Goldenrod or Jubilife City to me. Nothing ever happens in Alphton." Derrick explained as they walked toward Route 302.

"Yeah, I guess it is pretty small down there. But you guys have that famous pokemon professor, don't you?" Greg asked.

"Well, used to... He passed away recently." said Derrick solemnly.

"Oh, sorry to hear that. So, I guess you just got your first pokemon then? Me too! This Skorupi and I have been together for about two days, but I can tell we're going to be great parners. We already took the gym challenge here!" Greg proudly exclaimed.

"Wow, you already have a badge?"

"Well, we took the challenge. We lost to Benson, he's really strong." said Greg, the pride now gone from his voice.

"Well, I'm actually challenging Benson today. I'm training my Elekid so he can take out Benson's water pokemon. He just learned Shock Wave during our last battle! So, do you want to train with me on Route 302? We can both take the gym challenge today." said Derrick hopefully.

"Sounds good Derrick, let's head over there."

So they spent all morning training against wild pokemon, and whenever trainers would pass through, they would challenge them. Elekid and Bagon had both gotten way stronger. Bagon learned a powerful Twister and Elekid learned how to use a hard-hitting Thunderpunch. Greg's Skorupi had learned a really powerful Bug Bite too.

After lunch, they decided to make their way back to town to make their gym challenges. When they arrived, they noticed something going on at the pokemart. They rushed over to see two men dressed in black, seemingly matching, uniforms running out. They released two Murkrow that kept the shop owner off of them while they escaped.

"What do you think that was all about?" asked Derrick.

"Not sure, let's go ahead and get to the gym." replied Greg.

They finally got to the gym and went inside. Benson was just inside, training with his Buizel. He noticed them coming inside and welcomed them.

"Hey boys! I see you two made friends with each other, that's good! Gregory, are you back for another challenge?" he asked.

"You know it! By the way, it's Greg..."

"Derrick! I was hoping you would make it today. I'm looking forward to battling with you, and I know Buizel is too." said Benson. "Alright, Gregory, you're up first! Let's see how much you've improved!"

They battled for a long time, it seemed like forever to Derrick. Even though he was still undefeated, he was really nervous about battling this gym leader. It came down to the wire, but Greg came away with the victory.

"YES! I beat him! Alright Derrick, it's your turn now. If I beat him, you're sure to be able to."

"Alright, here we go. Come on out Elekid!" Derrick said as he threw Elekid's pokeball to the ground. Elekid burst out, the moment he had waited for all day had finally come.

"Hahaha, finally. I've looked forward to this battle a lot, now it's time for me to go all out against you! Go Buizel!"

His Buizel emerged from its pokeball and ran around the room, almost like an athlete getting the audience pumped for a game, though the only audience here was Greg.

"Alright, Elekid, hit Buizel with a Shock Wave!" Derrick shouted.

"Quick, use Aqua Jet!" Benson quickly commanded.

Before Elekid could even think about attacking, Buizel slammed into him with great force. Elekid was taken aback by the attack.

"Quick Elekid, while Buizel is still close, use Thunderpunch!" Elekid landed an extremely powerful Thunderpunch on Buizel. "Now, while he's stunned, use Low Kick!" And Elekid knocked Buizel off of his feet, knocking out Benson's first pokemon. "Nice job Elekid!"

"Buizel, return!" said a disappointed Benson. "Alright, I expected nothing less than this from you Derrick. Here comes my ace in the hole, go Croconaw!"

A large blue gator emerged from his pokeball, snapping its jaws at Elekid. Elekid looked a bit scared for a moment, but soon regained composure and assumed his fighting position.

"Elekid, use Shock Wave!" Croconaw wasn't as light on its feet as Buizel and was hit but the lightning bolt. It shook off the attack and was ready to receive orders.

"Croconaw, use Crunch!" And the gator charged at Elekid and clamped its giant jaws around Elekid's body. Croconaw almost immediately let go in pain, as he had triggered Elekid's Static ability. Croconaw tried moving, but was prevented by its paralysis.

"Alright, Elekid! Land as many Thunderpunches as you can while he's paralyzed!" And that he did. Elekid landed punch after punch on Croconaw until finally Croconaw swayed, and fell to the ground. Croconaw had fainted.

"YES! I won!" shouted an excited Derrick.

"Congratulations, Derrick." the devastated leader replied, "A very fine display of battling." They walked over to the side of the gym. "I would like to give both of you the Freshwater Badge!"

The two boys gazed at their new badges in astonishment. They had both achieved what every trainer dreams of, obtaining a gym badge.

"Nice battling, Derrick!" Greg said as they left the gym, "Looks like we have 7 badges left now!"

"Looks like it. So what are you doing now?" asked Derrick.

"I think I'll head towards Route 304 and then on towards Lavaview to the West. What about you?" he asked.

"I was planning on heading East on Route 305, and then on to Forrest City. I hear there's a gym there." said Derrick.

"Yep, there's one in Lavaview too. Well, here's to meeting up again in the future!"

"I'm sure we will sometime. Nice meeting you, and thanks for the training!" said Derrick.

They said their goodbyes and went their separate ways. One to the East, and one to the West. It looked like Forrest City was the next stop on Derrick's journey. It's the home to the Grass type gym, though they havn't had a gym leader stay there for more than two months at a time. Derrick had no clue what kind of trainer he would be facing, but he knew he would have to train hard to beat the Forrest City Gym leader, and before he could get to Forrest City, he would have to go through the Verde Woods, which is home to many pokemon that are sure to keep him on his toes.

Chapter 4 Coming Soon!

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn

Along with my new chapter, I added an FAQ section to the Fan Club. This page is for new or confused readers who need to shine a little light on the story. It also includes a description of Fenn, since my fiction doesn't really give a detailed account of what the island looks like. The FAQ page has the basic info on the characters of course, but it also includes things not mentioned much in the story, like pokedexes (do they have them?), PCs, and when the story takes place in relation to the main series, so even if you understand the story perfectly, you may want to pay a visit to learn a little more.

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn (Chapter 3 Now Available!)

Allright, reviewing.
Your story has quite a bit of depth. I like the idea of Wade and how he feels about Bagon. There are a few comma errors that make the story hard to understand. Other than the grammar though, I think the story is quite good and has a lot of potential!

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn (Chapter 3 Now Available!)

Thanks a lot! It's kinda hard to get some of these reviews lol I have about 10 chapters completed so Im at a totally different part of the story than the readers, so when I read a review, im like, "Why are you reading such old stuff?" hehe. If it was up to me i would just post a new chapter every hour or two lol

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn (Chapter 3 Now Available!)

*Takes a deep breathe*

So you waited a whole day to post a Chapter? After reading through Chapter 3, I was extremely underwhelmed. Derrick's battle with Greggory seemed, quite to easy. Elekid to me, seems a bit to overpowered. I mean right now it has Low Kick, Thundershock, Shock Wave, and ThunderPunch. Coninuing on the battle with Greggory, you could have easily made that battle last an entire chapter; if I read correctly the Skorupi was downed in 2 Shockwave attacks, nothing else. To me, it seems a little weird when a Pokemon (Greggory's) that can only take that much damage beat Benson. But seriously, Derrick beat Benson far too easily and the battle should have lasted much, much longer.

Criticism aside, this is decent so far. And I will be reading.

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn (Chapter 3 Now Available!)

Well, Benson is the first Gym Leader. The first leader in the games, to me, is like a trial run or something. The first serious battle of the story, but at the same time it is designed for the challenger to win, like a confidence booster. The Benson battle was very short, yes, but it was on purpose. How many times do you spend more than a minute or two or three against the first Gym Leader in a game? In the later chapters, the battles go on longer, and the gym battles are tougher.
As for elekid being overpowered, yeah you're right, he is really strong already. I just get really bored with the moves pokemon have at the start. The story would be kinda boring if he just used thundershock the whole time, so I added a few moves. Some of them he definitely wouldnt know yet, but he would probably already know low kick and thundershock by now. In the next few chapters, he keeps most of the same moves though.
Thanks for the criticism, glad to see people are actually reading this lol.

Chapter 4: Over the River and Through the Woods!

Chapter 4 Incoming :) (I resisted the urge, and waited 2 days this time!)

Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn
Chapter 4: Over the River and Through the Woods

Route 305, just East of Villa Town…

Derrick and Bagon had just received their first badge of the Fenn League. They were now on their way towards Forrest City to the East of Villa Town. To Derrick, Villa Town had seemed huge compared to his hometown of Alphton, but even Villa Town wouldn’t compare to Forrest City. It was probably the second largest city in Fenn behind Urbanville. Though most of Fenn was wilderness, the shining metropolis of Urbanville was a bustling city full of excitement. Urbanville rivaled the vast cities of Goldenrod in Johto, and Jubilife in Sinnoh.

Derrick knew that before they could arrive in Forrest City, they had to trek through the vast Verde Woods. The Verde Woods was a dense forest area, home to many bug and forest pokemon. As they walked down the route towards the woods, they saw a girl and her Charmeleon training in the distance.

“Hey! What’s going on?” Derrick shouted in her direction. The tomboyish girl looked away from her Charmeleon as if broken from a trance. She obviously took her training seriously, and from the looks of her powerful fire type, so did her pokemon.
“Hey there trainer. You from Villa Town?” she questioned.

“Alphton, actually. How about you?” he replied.

“Forrest City. Say, you wanna have a quick battle? Me and Sparx are training and need a worthy opponent. You and your Bagon look pretty tough. Whadya say?” She spoke with a slur. Her words came out sloppily, almost with a backwoods dialect, foreign to Derrick. Obviously she wasn’t quite “from” the city.
“Bagon and I are always up for a battle. What’s your name?” he asked her.

“Helena, and yourself?”

“Derrick. Alright, let’s get this show on the road! Bagon, let’s go!” And Bagon stepped up to challenge Sparx the Charmeleon.

“Ok, Sparx. This one might be tough, give it all you’ve got! Quick, use Flame Wheel!” Helena commanded. Her Charmeleon burst into a ball of fire, spinning towards Bagon.

“Bagon, get out of the –“ Derrick tried to finish his command, but Sparx’s flame wheel was far too quick for Bagon. He hit the dragon hard in the gut and knocked him down. Bagon staggered to his feet, but quickly was back to normal. “Alright Bagon, use Twister!”

“Sparx! Another Flame Wheel!” Helena screeched, but the fiery ball that was the Charmeleon was quickly swept up by the swirling whirlwind and tossed back. Sparx didn’t seem able to get back up, but the resilient fire type kept on fighting. “Alright, time to run in close to land Fire Fang!”
Sparx ran in a flash towards Bagon, catching him by surprise. The Charmeleon bit down hard with a glowing red mouth onto Bagon, damaging him even more. Bagon, determined to win, shook off the blow and got ready to continue the fight.

“Ok Bagon, one more strong hit on Sparx and we’ve got this one in the bag.” Derrick told Bagon. The pokemon nodded and got ready to fight. “Bagon! Use Headbutt!” and the Bagon ran full force at Sparx, hitting with the most powerful headbutt that Derrick had seem him use yet.

Sparx was on the ground for a long time after that blow, and Derrick thought they had won, but once again, the seemingly invincible Charmeleon stepped up for more. This time, however, the red pokemon’s fiery tail was burning bigger and brighter than ever before. It looked like his Blaze ability had been activated.

“One more, Sparx! Use Flamethrower!!” and with her command, Sparx let loose a plume of flame from its mouth that was so big, Derrick could feel the heat on his face, even from a distance. Bagon was consumed in the fire and lay on the ground, unconscious. Helena’s Charmeleon had soundly defeated Bagon.
“Hahaha, looks like your dragon couldn’t take the heat!” she taunted.

“Down but not out. C’mon Elekid!” and Derrick’s electric type emerged in a flash of white light from his pokeball. “Elekid! Use Low Kick!” and Elekid ran, zigzagging, in Sparx’s direction and landed a quick, powerful blow at the Charmeleon’s ankles. With this, the Charmeleon finally fell to the ground, exhausted from the battle, and fainted.

“Nice job Elekid, way to pull off the win!” Derrick said, excited from the thrill of victory.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Who said anything about a win? That’s only one pokemon you know. Yanma! Let’s go!” Helena threw her other pokeball, one that Derrick hadn’t been aware of, to the ground and a large redish-orange dragonfly emerged. “OK Yanma! Use Whirlwind!” And the bug pokemon flapped is wings, stirring up a small twister around Elekid, disorienting him. “Now! While he’s confused, use your Bug Bite!” Elekid had no time to react. His confusion was soon interrupted by a painful bite from the powerful bug.

Elekid dropped to his knees, but soon got back up. Derrick started giving orders again, “Elekid, hit him with a Thunderpunch!”, but Yanma was very agile and dodged with ease.
“Get behind it and use Signal Beam!” Helena shouted, and with that, the speedy Yanma flew behind Elekid and blasted him with a gleaming beam of light. Elekid was knocked onto his back and didn’t get up.

“Whoa. You took us down.” Said an astonished Derrick, this being his first taste of defeat. Thus far, he had only experienced victory and happiness, being beaten was a new experience for him, and he hated it.

“Well, for a moment there, I thought you might be able to beat us.” She said, walking towards the defeated trainer. “Very nice battling though, not too shabby for a rookie.”

“How did you know I was a rookie?” asked a puzzled Derrick.
“Look at you! You don’t have a speck of dirt on you, and your shoes still look brand new.” She replied.

“True, hey you’re really strong! Been a trainer for long?” he asked the girl.

“Not too long, but training in that forest,” she said, gesturing towards Verde Woods, “really hardens you. You have to be careful going through there, there are tons of strong bug types among a lot of other pokemon. That’s where I captured my Yanma.”

“Which I found out was very strong.” Derrick said, laughing. “Well, if I’m going to make it to Forrest City by nightfall I had better get moving.” And after using a few potions and revives on his team, they were ready to start their journey into Verde Woods.

“See ya later, kid!” she yelled down the road at him.
These woods weren’t like the ones he had at home. These were thick, and smelled like earth. His Bagon looked around him, seeming worried, and stayed very near his trainer the entire time. Derrick decided, after a few battles with some wild Sentret and Weedle, that he should spray some Repel. After applying a coating of it, he followed the trail through the woods without a problem and arrived at the forest’s exit.

Forrest City was everything Derrick had hoped it would be and more, but he quickly remembered that he had business to attend to; he had to find the gym. He went to the pokecenter and asked a local trainer inside where to find it.

“It’s right across the street from the pokemart. You planning on facing the leader?” the trainer asked.

“Sure am! I’m going to beat him too, and add another badge to my collection.” Derrick replied.

“Good luck, the new leader is really tough. Much tougher than the old one. I hope you have something that’s good against grass types, otherwise I would go train in the forest.” The trainer advised.

“Good idea, I’ll go train with my pokemon and maybe while I’m at it, I’ll catch something to use against the leader. See ya.” And Derrick was off again towards the woods.

He hadn’t been training long when he heard the cry of a pokemon in the distance. He ran towards the sound and saw a Buneary being cornered by a much larger Scyther. The Scyther was just about to land a blow on the Buneary when Derrick commanded Bagon to hit it with an ember.

The Scyther shook off the blow, and flew towards Bagon and hit him with Cut, knocking Bagon down. At this point, Derrick realized how hard it would be to fight quick pokemon with only Bagon and Elekid, who both had mediocre speed. Derrick decided that he would make this Scyther his own. The wild Scyther realized he was in for a battle and raised its arms.

“Bagon, show this Scyther who’s boss! Use another Ember!” but Scyther was much too fast, and evaded the attack. He then flew towards Bagon again and used Wing Attack, knocking him out. “Bagon! Dang it. Ok Elekid, your turn now!” And Derrick’s Elekid came out to fight. “Use Thunderpunch!” but once again, the Scyther simply moved out of the way and landed a powerful wing attack on Elekid, while Elekid was down, Scyther kept assaulting him with Fury Cutter until Elekid fainted, unable to take anymore.

Derrick, out of pokemon and with no place to run, was then cornered by the Scyther. The ferocious bug pokemon lifted one of its giant arms, but just before swinging it, he was hit by a giant stream of flames. Derrick looked to the left and saw Helena and Sparx coming to his aid.

“Trying to get yourself killed out here?” she asked, mockingly. “Sparx, use another Flamethrower!” and the Scyther was engulfed in flames once more, this time getting KO’d. “Good girl, Sparx! Well?” now looking at Derrick. “Aren’t you going to catch it?”

Derrick, over his shock, threw a pokeball at the seemingly lifeless Scyther. The ball twitched some, and then was still, containing the newest addition to his team!

“Thanks a lot Helena. You really saved me back there, and thanks for helping me catch this guy too! I can use him against the gym leader in Forrest City!”

“Glad to be of assistance, trainer. Well, looks like I have to be going!” and with that, the energetic and busy trainer and her Charmeleon ran into the bushes, and became unseen.

“She doesn’t stick around long…” then Derrick looked down at his fainted pokemon. “Oh no! I better get you guys to the pokecenter!”

Derrick got back to town and had Bagon , Elekid, and Scyther looked after while he toured the city. After viewing some of the larger buildings, like the Silph Co.: Fenn Branch building, he decided to go get a preview of the gym.

He entered the doors, and to his surprise stood a boy, not much older than him. A boy he knew all too well from Alphton.
“Heya Derrick!” said the gym leader.

“Jackson? Since when did you become the gym leader here?” asked a stunned Derrick.

“Pretty recently actually. They needed a replacement, and since I had already beaten several of Fenn’s gyms, they decided I could be the new leader! My love of grass types probably drew me to the job too hehe.” Jackson replied. “I see you’re taking the gym challenge then?”

“Yep! I’ve already defeated Benson in Villa Town, you’re the next leader on my list to defeat.” Derrick said.

“Well, Alphton has a history of turning out great trainers. Look at Cyprus! And of course, you can’t forget your pal Wade. He really gave me a run for my money, honestly, I expected you two to be traveling together.” Said Jackson.

“Yeah…We decided against that. So you already battled him?”

“You could say that. He beat me pretty soundly. I didn’t stand a chance against those pokemon of his, he must do nothing but train them!” laughed the leader. “Well, I’m locking up for the night. I hope to see you in here for a battle tomorrow!”

“You bet, I’ve got some training to do first, but you’ve got a lot in store for you.” Said Derrick, now confident in is ever-growing team. “See ya tomorrow!”

Derrick then returned to the pokecenter and spent the night. The next morning, his team was restored and ready to train. Derrick released Scyther from his pokeball, not quite knowing what to expect. The Scyther didn’t seem to approve of his new master, but then nodded as to say “I don’t like it, but let’s go ahead and get this over with.”

There was a small field just outside of town that had a lot of grass types running around in it and he figured that this would be the perfect spot to prepare his Scyther for battle.

Chapter 5: Derrick vs. Jackson!

Here comes Chapter 5, finally. Hope y'all like it! (kinda short this time)

Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn
Chapter 5: Derrick Vs. Jackson!

Derrick and Scyther, training in a field outside Forrest City...

Derrick and his newly acquired bug type pokemon had been training all morning long. They had fought lots of grass types in the field to get Scyther used to facing that kind of opponent. Over the course of the morning, Scyther had warmed up to his trainer some, but still wasn’t thrilled about having a master.

“Fantastic! We’re making great progress Scyther!” said Derrick after they defeated a wild Budew. “Ok buddy. I think we’re ready now. Let’s make our way back to town.”

They left the field, and prepared for the gym battle with Jackson and his grass type team. They were nearing the gym when a familiar voice could be hear, shouting down the street.
“Hey! Derrick! Over here!”

Derrick turned to see his new friend from Villa Town, Greg, standing at the far end of the street. They met each other half way and began to chat.

“Derrick, guess what. I beat the Lavaview gym! I caught this awesome little guy and he helped me do it.” Said Greg, pointing towards his new water type, a Krabby. “I was just walking along the beach and this little guy jumped up and pinched me…Of course, I battled it with Skorupi and we won! I decided to catch it, and it’s a good thing I did! He swept the Lavaview leader.”

“Wow! He must be a strong little guy. Check this out.” Derrick released Scyther from his pokeball to show Greg. “Just got him in the Verde Woods. Unfortunately, we met under bad circumstances, so he doesn’t quite trust me yet. It’s getting better though, we’ve been training all morning and the bond is getting stronger.” As Derrick said this, Scyther looked the other way, seeming very bored.

“Well, since I didn’t spend a lot of time in Lavaview, I figured I might come see how your training was going. I take it you’re about to challenge the gym leader here? Maybe I should too.”

“Alright, let’s go then.” said Derrick, and they walked towards the gym.

They walked inside and were welcomed by the leader. “Hey guys, ready for the battle Derrick? Oh, who’s your friend?” looking at Greg.

“Oh, this is my friend from Villa Town, he wants to battle you as well.” Derrick replied.

“Well, I actually only have time for one battle today, I’m heading to Alphton to attend Prof. Cyprus’ funeral.”

“Yeah, I wasn’t sure if you had heard about that or not.” said Derrick, solemnly.

“It’s very sad. I’m just thinking that the man who gave me my first pokemon, the man who made my dream a reality, and all of this” looking around at his gym, “possible, is actually gone.” The gym leader looked down, but then quickly looked back up at the boys. “Hey, to save time, why don’t we have a double battle? I’ll use all four of my pokemon against two of yours!”

“Sounds good to me, Greg?” his friend nodded his head, and had a determined expression on his face.

“Ok, let’s do this then! Roselia and Skiploom, let’s go!” and Jackson’s pokemon emerged from their pokeballs.

“Krabby, come on out!” shouted Greg.

“Let’s go Bagon!” Derrick yelled.

The four pokemon stood facing each other, waiting for the first trainer to make their move.

“Alright Krabby, hit Skiploom hard with a Water Gun!”

“Bagon! Trap them in a twister!” Derrick commanded. This plan worked perfectly. Even though Krabby’s water type move was weak against the grass type pokemon, Bagon’s twister kept them in place and made them take gallon after gallon of water. “Ok Bagon, now use Ember!” and flames engulfed the two grass types, simultaneously knocking them out. Bagon had become much stronger since they had started their journey, and it showed in every single battle.

“Whoa! I didn’t see that coming! You boys have some serious talent in double battling. Anyway, Tropius, Leafeon! Come on out!” and Jackson’s two strongest pokemon came out. A small, leafy fox and a giant tree-like dinosaur were now facing Bagon and Krabby. “Alright, Tropius use Stomp on the ground next to them!” and the massive pokemon began to slam its feet onto the ground, causing shockwaves all around Krabby and Bagon, making them lose their footing. “Now, while they’re out of it, Leafeon, use Razor Leaf!” and his Leafeon sent a storm of sharp leaves shooting towards the two trapped pokemon. Krabby, being a water type, couldn’t take the hit and was easily knocked out.

“Aw man, nice try Krabby. Alright Skorupi, get out here!” and Greg’s first pokemon joined the battle. “Send some Pin Missiles their way!” and the small Scorpion shot needle after needle at the two grass types.

“Tropius, use Whirlwind to blow away those needles!” and before the needles could land, they were tossed away by the strong twister summoned by Tropius. “Great job, now use Stomp on Skorupi! Squash it like a bug! Leafeon, use Seed Bomb on Bagon!” and both hits landed on the pokemon, knocking out Bagon, and injuring Skorupi.

“Uh oh, down to my last pokemon, and so is Greg. OK Scyther! Come on out!” and the green mantis came onto the battlefield.
The two strong grass types stood against the two bugs, and it seemed as if they were locked in a stalemate.

“Skorupi, use Poison Fang on Tropius!” and the small bug leapt into the air and brought its teeth down onto the giant pokemon’s neck.

“Ok, Leafeon, land another Seed Bomb on the Scyther!” commanded Jackson. But Scyther was too fast, and dodged the attack, leaving Leafeon stunned.

“Now’s your chance! Fury Cutter!” said Derrick. And Scyther flew at full speed towards Leafeon, slashing away with the powerful bug type move until finally, the small fox fell, defeated. Derrick breathed a sigh of relief, and looked over to see Greg’s tiny Skorupi defeat Jackson’s Tropius with a nasty Bug Bite.
The boys cheered in victory and Jackson walked over to them.

“If I had to be defeated, I’m glad it was by someone from my home town, great battle Derrick! And great battle to you too Greg!” Jackson said, pinning their newly earned badges to the players’ cases. “And now I award you both, the Woodland Badge!”
Then they heard a noise coming from behind them. They turned around to see Skorupi in the middle of a blinding white light. What was happening? When the light finally cleared, a new, much larger pokemon stood where Skorupi had only moments before. Skorupi had evolved! It was now a Drapion!

“No way! I knew that defeating that Tropius would make him stronger, but I had no idea he would evolve!” Greg exclaimed.

So the boys decided that they would make their way to Lavaview, so that Derrick could fight the gym leader of that town. They hiked through the Verde Woods again, and made it to Route 304. Greg now had 3 badges, and Derrick had two, but with Greg’s experience with this gym leader already, Derrick knew he would have the upper hand when battling them. After the victory at Forrest City, Scyther had become much closer with Derrick, and now respected him as a trainer. They would prove to be a very powerful duo in the future.

Chapter 6: A View to Rival All Others

Chapter 6 is finally here guys :) Enjoy..

Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn
Chapter 6: A View to Rival All Others

Derrick and Greg have just set foot in Route 304...

After receiving the Woodland Badge in Forrest City, Greg and Derrick decided to go to Lavaview so Derrick can obtain his third badge. Although Greg has beaten this gym already, he wants to travel with Derrick for awhile, so he can catch up on training. Derrick is working on training his current team members a bit more (Bagon, Scyther, and Elekid) before challenging Lavaview’s gym, and before catching anymore pokemon. He’s still working on befriending Scyther a bit more, but after their last gym victory, they’ve been getting along great.

“Just letting you know, this is the last Route for us. Fenn gets pretty…desolate from here on out.” Greg told Derrick as they traveled from Villa Town to Lavaview. “After we get to Lavaview, we have to make our own trails from town to town. It’s basically wilderness past Lavaview.”

“The way I see it, the more wilderness, the more pokemon out there to catch.” Derrick said, though secretly, he was a little nervous about not having the constant companion that is civilization with him all the time.

“Yeah, the towns up in the northern end of Fenn are all really secluded according to my map.” He said, studying a piece of paper. “No main roads to them, or any interlocking them. Of course, Fenn is the smallest region. “

“So where are we planning on going after Lavaview?” Derrick asked.

“Hmm. It looks like the next gym is in…Doj City! The bad news is that the fastest way TO Doj City is over the Highpeak Mountains. But! There is also an upside to that! Up on top of those mountains is a dojo that monks apparently use to train their ice type pokemon in.” Greg explained.

“How is that an upside? Now we’ll be cold AND we have to beat a bunch of monks with strong ice types?”

“If you can beat the monks, they award you the Symbol of Focus. It’s only given out to people who can show true discipline while training pokemon.” He further explained.

“Still not getting how this is good news…” Derrick stated.
“It counts the same as a gym badge in the Fenn League!” Greg shouted.

“Now you tell me! Hmm, that would save a lot of time, seeing as it’s already on our way. I say we do it! And since Lavaview is the last stop before the Highpeaks, we could even catch some awesome fire types to use against the Ice Dojo!”

“I like the way you think, Derrick! We make a pretty awesome team.” Greg said, a little embarrassed that his thoughts had slipped out as audible words.

“I think so too!” Derrick said, relieving Greg. “Say, how do you know so much about those monks and the Highpeaks and all of the gyms? I had no clue you were so knowledgeable.” Derrick said.

“Villa Town has a Pokemon Trainer School. If you’re from Villa Town and you want to get a trainer’s license, you have to take a year of classes there the year before you get your first pokemon.” Greg said, “It helps a lot when you’re on an adventure.”

“I’d say so. Hey, I heard that Route 304 is a famous place for trainers to gather and have battles for training. It’s the perfect place to meet since it’s right in between Villa Town and Lavaview. Maybe we’ll get to train a little before arriving in town.”

Just then, they came across a hill overlooking a vast flatland full of trainers and their pokemon. All of them were battling each other. There were probably twenty or thirty trainers total, all just training.

“Yep, I didn’t stop to battle with them last time, but I’m open to now if you are?” Greg asked.

“Sure thing. We could always use some more training!” Derrick said, looking at Bagon.

They headed down toward the battle area and ended up staying until dark. They must’ve fought 20 trainers apiece before finally heading into town.

“Whew, I’m exhausted.” Greg admitted.

“No kidding, I’m ready to get to the pokecenter.” Derrick said.
Upon arriving in Lavaview, Derrick noticed that behind the town, volcanoes could be clearly seen in the distance, smoke billowing out of them. Sitting like a king on his throne, was Mt. Molten, the giant volcano that was the biggest one in the region.
Derrick’s sight-seeing was soon interrupted by an all too familiar voice.

“Deez! You made it to Lavaview? I figured you would get halfway through Verde Woods and then go back home to Alphton.” The voice of Wade could be clearly heard in the afternoon’s silence. “You were always the type to, you know, give up early.”

“Wade…I take it you just got finished in Lavaview?”

“Just got finished? Please, while you and your girlfriend were taking your sweet time, I was battling gyms. I’ve already got 5 badges. I came back to look for a fire pokemon, which I found, so now I’m leaving.” Wade proudly told them. “Although, I could use some practice. Let’s battle, chump. You and me. My pokemon can always stand to get a little stronger.”

“Whatever, we’ll just beat you again, like we did last time.” Derrick told him, not a hint of fear in his voice, though inside, his heart was pounding.

“You know this guy? He’s the one who beat all of us trainers in Villa Town.” Greg said.

“You could say I know him. It’s a long story for another time, right now, I’ve gotta beat this guy.” Derrick coolly stated. “Scyther, get ready to fight!” And Derrick’s Scyther jumped from its ball, eager for another battle.

“I see you got another team member, pff, too bad it’s weak looking. I’ve got new friends too, Deez, Houndour! Come on out!” Wade threw a ball, and a small, black dog emerged, growling and barking. “Quick, hit him with ember!”

“Scyther, dodge and use Cut!” Derrick cried. Scyther easily evaded the jet of flames and landed a brutal slice on Houndour.

“Grr, Houndour, Flamethrower!” Wade commanded, and his Houndour let loose a wall of fire coming right towards Scyther. Scyther was hit by the fire, but since the Houndour was still a new pokemon, Scyther wasn’t hurt too bad. “What? Any decent pokemon would have KO’d it with that blast, c’mon, use another Flamethrower!” And Houndour let loose another fiery blast from its mouth.

This time, Scyther was took quick, and easily flew over the wall of fire.

“Nice one Scyther! Now, hit him with another Cut!” so Scyther flew into the air, and brought down its massive arm on top of the Houndour, landing a critical hit. The Houndour had fainted.

“Piece of… Whatever, Kirlia, get out there and finish the job!” and the evolved form of Wade’s first pokemon emerged from its pokeball. “Use Psychic!” Kirlia focused all of its power onto Scyther, but Scyther easily withstood the attack, and without taking an order from Derrick, ran towards Kirlia and landed a brutal, new attack on it.

“Wow! That was X-Scissor!” cried an excited Greg.
The Kirlia took massive damage from this new attack and fell to the ground. Wade shuddered at the thought of his best pokemon being brought down by the newest addition to his rival’s team after only one shot.

“This is such crap! Fine then, get out here Rhyhorn!” and Wade’s giant rock pokemon came out to fight. “Rock Slide, hit ‘em hard!”
A ton of rocks smashed into Scyther, injuring it badly. Scyther struggled to get up, but the damage was just too much for him to take, and he fainted.

“Darn, ok then Elekid! Get out here!” and an excited Elekid jumped from within his pokeball. “Hit him with a Low Kick!”
Elekid started to run at the Rhyhorn, but then Wade commanded, “Quick, Magnitude!” and Rhyhorn sent shockwaves out, damaging Elekid heavily. Elekid got back up, and was ready to receive orders.

“Ok Elekid, try for another Low Kick!” This time, Elekid ran with much more energy and landed an incredible sliding kick on the Rhyhorn, Wade’s pokemon quickly reacted, using a Horn Attack on Elekid. The electric type couldn’t take anymore, he had fainted. “No! Elekid! Ok Bagon, take him down!”

Derrick commanded him to use Twister, but the attack didn’t damage the incredibly heavy Rhyhorn. Derrick tried every move he had on the rock type. Ember, Twister, Headbutt, Bite, but all were useless on his rock hard skin.

“Rhyhorn! Use Rock Blast!” and Wade’s pokemon began launching rocks at Bagon. Bagon dodged all but the last one, which knocked him down onto the ground. Then, something happened to Bagon, as he got up, he had a new look in his eye. He focused on the Rhyhorn and blasted it with a new attack! He spit what seemed to be purple flames at the already weakened rock type until finally he fainted.

“Way to go, Bagon! You learned Dragonbreath!” Derrick shouted in victory. “Way to pull off the win, buddy.”

“Every single time I fight you, you pull some crazy trick out of your ass and use it on me. Next time will be different. You, and everyone else, will be on their knees in front of me by the time this is all over.” And with that, Wade stormed off, screaming at his pokemon the entire way down the road.

Derrick and Greg made it into town with their pokemon and took them to the pokecenter. They decided they would visit the gym in the morning, but right now, Derrick, Greg, and their pokemon needed rest. Derrick’s adventure was gaining momentum now, before long he would be half way finished with the Gym Challenge. However, more challenges than just gym leaders were in store for him in an uncomfortably near future.

Chapter 7: Some Much Needed R&R!

EDIT: I guess it's only been three days, meh here it is anyway.

Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn
Chapter 7: Some Much Needed R&R!

The morning after Mt. Molten’s major eruption, Lavaview pokecenter...

The boys got up a little earlier this morning, even though yesterday’s events had worn them out. They quickly picked up their pokemon from the nurse and headed out the door. As they walked past Mt. Molten, they noticed that the now hardened lava had cooled overnight, though it was still steaming some.

The plan for today was to head to the beach, West of Mt. Molten, to have a relaxing day before going back to training. Derrick, Greg and their pokemon would spend the day lounging by the ocean, putting all thoughts of Wade, battles, and gym leaders away.

“This is where I caught Krabby, right here on this beach.” Greg said, walking onto the sand. Several Krabby scuttled into the water, startled by the newcomers, and they could see Wailmer far off, towards the horizon, blowing out Water Sports. They set up some chairs and an umbrella, and then released all of their pokemon onto the golden sand.

Bagon, Scyther, and Elekid stood next to Greg’s Drapion, Krabby, and Magby on the sand, not knowing what to make of the beautiful scenery around them. The pokemon began to play in the water and sand, enjoying themselves.

“This is a great place, I can’t believe my mom never took me to the coast before!” Derrick said, taking in the warm ocean air.

“Yeah man. This place is fantastic.” Greg replied, “Hey, where did your Elekid go?” Greg asked, looking around for Derrick’s missing pokemon.

“Hmm, I thought he was playing with the others, I guess he went for a stroll. I’ll go look for him.” And with that, Derrick got up and went to search the beach for his pokemon.

“Elekid! Elllikid!” Derrick called out to the pokemon, but to no avail.

He could hear noises a little further down the beach from where he stood, so he decided to investigate. When he got to the source of the noise, he saw his Elekid staring down a wild Huntail that had washed up on the beach.

“Elekid, be careful, that looks like a strong pokemon. Maybe you should leave it alone.” Derrick called out to his pokemon. Elekid nodded and turned to join his trainer. As he started walking with Derrick, the Huntail dashed toward Elekid, landing a brutal Aqua Tail on the small pokemon. Elekid got up and faced the Huntail.

“Ok Elekid, looks like this one wants to fight. Give him what he’s asking for! Use Shock Wave!” and Elekid blasted the Huntail with a powerful jolt of electricity.

The Huntail countered with a Slam, which knocked Elekid down once more.

“Elekid, get in close and use Thunderpunch!” Elekid ran full speed at the water pokemon and smacked it with its fist, making the Huntail wince with pain. Huntail was quick to react again and bit down onto Elekid with a nasty Crunch. As with Benson’s Croconaw, Huntail jumped back in pain, his mouth had been shocked by Elekid’s static. “Alright, now hit him with a Thundershock!” but this Thundershock was different, Elekid had taken this attack up a notch and made it Thunderbolt! The lightning hit Huntail full force and knocked it out.

Suddenly, Elekid was wrapped in a mysterious white light. He gave off several bright colors, until finally an Electabuzz stood where the tiny Elekid once had. Elekid had evolved!

“Woah, an Electabuzz! I can’t wait to show Greg!” said Derrick, rushing back to his friend with his newly evolved pokemon. When he got there, he was surprised to see two men, dressed completely in black, matching uniforms. One had his Zangoose pinning Greg to a rock, and was sifting through the two trainers’ bags. The other was tightening a knot on the rope that surrounded Greg and Derrick’s pokemon. He finished tying the knot, and looked up to see Derrick, and without missing a beat he threw a pokeball out, revealing a Murkrow.

“These are the guys who robbed the pokecenter in Villa Town!” thought Derrick, “Looks like they’re robbing us now.”

Derrick looked at Greg, the Zangoose had an iron hold on him and he had no chance of getting away. Derrick now looked at Electabuzz and said, “Ok buddy, looks like it’s just you against these thugs, let’s do it!”

Electabuzz moved up to take on the Murkrow. “OK Electabuzz! Use Thunderbolt!” Derrick’s newly evolved pokemon was far more powerful than the thug’s Murkrow, knocking it out with a single hit.

“Grr, get out here Mawile!” snarled the thief, and a small, angry looking steel type came from inside its pokeball. “Try to land a Guillotine!” But Electabuzz was much faster than he used to be, and easily dodged the wild attack.

“Hit him with a Thunderpunch, Electabuzz!” and Electabuzz smashed the Mawile’s head with a charged up punch.

This time, the thug’s pokemon withstood the attack, being a sturdy steel type. “Mawile, use Crunch!” and the small pokemon bit down hard on Electabuzz. The noises of battle made the other guy turn around and summon his own pokemon.

The second thug yelled, “Go, Absol!” revealing a much tougher looking pokemon.

Electabuzz was now up against two opponents, the Mawile’s trainer then shouted, “Bind him up!” and the Mawile used its massive jaws to hold the Electabuzz in place. The Absol then assaulted him with Dark Pulse.

Derrick didn’t think that Electabuzz could take anymore, but then he started to glow a bluish-white color. Electricity was jumping around on top of his hair, and making sparks. A yellow orb surrounded him and then he seemed to explode in a flash of golden light. Absol and Mawile were both KO’d by Electabuzz’s newly learned, Discharge.

The thieves took their pokemon back, and quickly ran away. Derrick hustled to where Greg was now lying on the ground. “You ok buddy?” he asked his friend.

“I’m fine. Those guys, we saw them robbing the pokecenter. They came out of nowhere and his Zangoose slammed me up against that rock. One of them tied up our pokemon, while the other looked through our bags. I noticed they had two letters on their backs when they ran off too: T and U. I wonder what it means?” Greg wondered, still shocked by this ordeal.

“I’m not sure, but we should be on the lookout for those guys from now on.” Said Derrick.

“Woah, I see that Elekid evolved! Nice job, it looks like he learned Discharge too.”

“Yep, and he also learned Thunderbolt. Isn’t it ironic that my pokemon grew more today, the day we were supposed to be relaxing, than he has on this entire journey?” Derrick laughed.

“Well, today didn’t exactly go as planned.” Greg replied, chuckling. “You know, since we’re out here, you should try to catch a water type like my Krabby, it will definitely come in handy against Ginger.”

“That’s a good idea; I wish I had thought of it while I was battling that Huntail.” Derrick said, a little embarrassed.

The two boys started walking down the beach in search of a water type to add to Derrick’s team. They walked down the beach until it was nearly dark. They hadn’t seen a single pokemon yet, and were getting ready to head back. Right before they did, a small Corphish scuttled out in front of them and started to make its way toward the water.

“Finally, we find something!” Derrick said, reaching for a pokeball. “Go Scyther!”

Scyther emerged from his ball, looking down at the small crab. “Ok Scyther, use Cut!” and Scyther brought its arm down on the Corphish.

The Corphish realized it would have to battle, so it sent a powerful Water Gun at Scyther. Scyther, not expecting the small pokemon to fight back was knocked back by the powerful jet of water. He quickly got up though, and Derrick commanded him to use Fury Cutter. The mantis began slashing away at the small crab until finally, it collapsed. Derrick threw a pokeball at it. *Twitch* *Twitch* *CLICK* Derrick now had a water type he could use against Ginger!

“Way to go Derrick!” Greg said, happy for his friend. “Haha, it looks like we both have crabs.” And the boys both laughed.

They made their way back to town, and headed for the pokecenter. The day, intended to be solely for rest and relaxation, had turned out to be the most stressful day of their journey yet. They were exhausted, and went to bed a lot earlier than usual. Derrick would be up early in the morning to train his Corphish, and then would be taking the Lavaview Gym Challenge!

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn (Chapter 7 Is Available!)

Nice job! I like how Derrick is gradually becoming stronger, and how the plot is getting kicked up!
Pretty good chapter, except for two aspects. First of all, Electabuzz learns Discharge before Thuderbolt. Additionally, Electabuzz seems a little...overpowered. He learns two new moves so soon?
Other than that, great job!!!

Re: Derrick, Wade, and the Region of Fenn (Chapter 7 Is Available!)

Thanks! I'm glad that some people are reading it ^^ As for the order in which he learns the moves, I really don't stick too close to the "official" order. Whatever fits the story better. And yes, Electabuzz is really overpowered, as he has been since he was an Elekid, which will be a problem in future chapters, thanks for the comment!
