Tomorrow, the first Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl movie, "Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai," will be released in Japan. For the overwhelming majority of posters on this forum, the DVD release (and subsequent illegal downloads) will be the first time the movie will be available to watch.

The DVD can be bought from CD Japan, Play-Asia, and Yes Asia.

Yanno, I always thought it was quite idiotic how the Pokemon movies came out mere DAYS before Christmas. I mean seriously, hasn't Japan ever heard of Christmas gifts? Most people do like to pick them up before the last four days.

That aside though, I'm very happy this is finally coming out. The ninth movie was so much like the sixth (except handled in a much worse manner), so it's like the eighth was the last real one we've gotten. x_x

So the movie came out on DVD today? Well I guess that means I got to be extra careful around here from now on. I'm planning to wait out for the American version and I really don't want to be spoiled. Hopefully it's out by May.

Can a Japanese DVD play on the average computer with a DVD drive?

If you ask me, I'd say just wait for the dub version to be released.

At least it would be in English and you would actually be able to understand what's being said. But anyway, that's my opinion on the matter. ^^;

However, if they included a subtitles option on the Japanese DVDs, then I would start buying them.

Also, I think it'd be pretty awesome to have the Japanese version of the first 3 movies. I've heard that the dub version is actually included on those movies.

Yes, wait for the dub, Lisa... XD

#PM is releasing a subtitled version apparently when it's available for download, so it will help with understanding the DVD when I watch it.

Ah, so Pocket Monsters IS releasing a sub version.

That's great to hear, WPM! ^^

I think it's great that PM has made subs of all the movies. As a dubbie (haha), I'm not a big fan of subs myself, but I do prefer them over the raw version.

:3 Im getting the DVD For Xmas :3 well after xD My first japanese pokemon movie xD And i can watch it whole as i know whats going on

Yes, any thoughts from someone who has actually seen the movie?

I've heard from a couple of people who said it was really intense when Dialga and Palkia started fighting in Alamos Town.

From the pictures, I tend to agree with that. It really looks like something out of an old-school monster movie.

I really like the way the dissolution of Alamos Town into the voids of space and time looks, too. There's one shot of Baron Alberto where the dissolution behind him looks almost like a nighttime cityscape that's pretty pleasing to the eye.

And speaking of Alberto, it appears to me he keeps his playboy demeanor throughout the whole thing, which is really amusing, as are his antics while he's transformed into Lickilicky (one scene has him tongue wrapping Darkrai !)

And the movie has Lickilicky, Budew, Roserade AND Combee. WIN.

this movie is amazing the visual quality is higher than any prvious movie and the battles are intense and beautiful. And I love the stickers that came with the movie.

CGI blends a lot better than last movie. And the music is lovely. The fighting was indeed intense and Dialga and Palkia sure wrecked a lot of havoc.

Story-wise, the movie has a lot of elements that looks similar to the second movie: a song that quells the fighting. A Pokemon that guard/protect. They both looked like a gonner too.

IMO, movie 8 is story-wise still the best movie in my book. This movie comes close and I do notice that the history is being told much better with all the flashbacks and stuff rather than a dry legend.

Hikari is joining Ash doing some "save the day"-action that Ash usually do in the previous movies.

Alberto. I'm kinda disappointed in this guy. He was portraited as the main villian in the trailers, but he ended up as comedy relief.

Darkrai has some nice moves. The way it can just dive into the ground and move around in high speed like that is cool. As for the part were Darkrai dies, imo it would be better for the dramatics if it stayed dead.

Lol at Hikari's conversation (guessing here)
Alice: but it's a long way up...
Hikari: Daijobu!
*later in the stairways*
Hikari: Daijobu janai...

Ash giving Pikachu the "hug of death" cracked me up.

The movie is worth 9/10 in my book.

Hi ^^ I really loved the 10th pokémon movie and the CGI is much better than ever before and i do agree with u on that one Unown ^^

Things i loved and know about this movie:

1. In the beginning of the movie it showed many shots of the previous movies and also showed every Pokémon from all the movies inc Lucario! ^^ (Lucario/Sir Aaron/8th movie fan) ^_^

2. Also you can see the Unown were back in this movie but they never played any role in this movie which is a shame...also Dialga and Palkia are in their world or vice versa ^^

3. When Darkrai accidently knocks ash out with one of it's attacks and has his dream, ash walks around calling his friends and Ash's shadow changes behind him.
It looks like someone else's shadow....i looked so close and i thought it could be the shadow of Sir Aaron ^^, i can tell on the hand & hat, his clothes which includes the shape of his cape and stuff on the bottom right, also u can see his left arm and and it could be Aaron's Aura enhancing glove ^^; What do u think? ^^; me and my imagination ^^; XD LOL or someone on DevianArt told me it could be the shadow of his father! 0_0; Does anyone see or share the same assumption as me? ^^ go and see!

4. During Ash's dream Darkrai shows Ash Palkia in it's world and comes up right to his face and goes for him but Ash is ok(one of the best bits of the movie in my opinion) :p XD lol Also when he sees Darkrai he goes into the ground and sees pikachu, Darkrai creates a black hole and pikachu is about to fall in, Ash grabs pikachu and falls in with him, then Ash wakes up in his dream and i found the bit when Ash gives pikachu a squezeey hug really funny! XD LOL

4. Also when ash is in his dream the sky is pink, exactly the same when Ash and co was in the Unown's world in pokémon movie 3 ^^

5. And i thought the soundtrack of the movie was very good too! ^^ i love music so much, whatever it is! ^^

Unown, Movie 8 was a brill movie too after my all time fave pokémon 2000 ^^ both of them movies go in my good books and so does this movie! ^^

I agree that Baron Alberto never seemed to be a 'villain' but he had his need to capture Darkrai but he fails cause he never had a chance to capture it cause he seemed like a dumbass and a playboy XD (he seems like Lawernce III, not really bad guys) if u know wat i mean? ^^

I agree with you Unown about this movie relateing to pokémon 2000 with the fighting and the pokémon in the middle guarding/protecting (Darkrai) ^^

there u go, thats my opinion! ^^

~ Kurt ^^

So far no one has subbed it in english yet, maybe sometime in the future someone will ^^

Finally got to see the movie since my friend in Japan mailed it to me. I only got the disk since he said that shipping it with the case increased the size, weight and affected the shipping costs. But I guess it's ok since I have to ship the thing back to him before New Years.

Now for my thoughts:
The movie goes from Satoshi saves the day to SatoshixHikari saves the day.The CGI is better than previous movies but I guess that's due to the fact technology is evolving. The way lighting was used was amazing with perspective and character positioning being considered. The story was a mix of movie 2 (Legends attacking each other, needing music to stop them) with a touch of movie 5 (Pokemon death, though it appears Darkrai is still ok in the end), and a pinch of movie 3 (Annon appearing) plus some new story elements which I'm too lazy to explain. There some great win moments in this movie: Pikachu and Satoshi eating Takeshi's cotton candy when he wasn't aware of it, Pochama trying to act big in front of Emperte, Greggeru's fight against Goukazaru, Tonio's clumsiness and awareness, Brock's reactions to Alberto and Tonio with Alice, Satoshi squishing Pikachu when he wakes up from the dark void, Hikari and the plate, Satoshi seeing everyone in the balloon while he climbs the stairs, Alberto becoming Beroberto (rhymes, doesn't it?), Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai, Greggeru stopping a blast from Dialga, Satoshi landing with the plate, the touching scene of Darkrai disintegrating, the nervousness of the Pokemon when Satoshi and Hikari pull the handle and the prettiness of the towers when they glow. One interesting thing I noticed and liked was the attention to some little details, like Usokki's fear of water and Mimirol's crush on Pikachu. I also liked the effectiveness of the flashbacks to back the storyThis movie had its shippy moments with Satoshi and Hikari (coming from both sides) as well as the CotD's Alice and Tonio. This kind of movie was needed since we didn't see much action in a movie since movie 8 though it's fight scenes were a subtle. It also had much more near death experiences than another other Pokemon movie I know of. The only things I found myself disliking was the ending where the contest was shown in stills instead of animated and the fact that Hikari's outfits seen in the credits weren't seen again. Overall, this movie is one of the greatest and is up their with movie 8 in terms of awesomeness and pushes movie 2 to 3rd in my list. I give it a 9.5/10.
