Actually. In normal gameplay, it is possible to meet Professor Oak aswell as Olivine City's Gym Leader Jasmine and the possibility to obtain the SecretPotion, a item previously appeard in Gold and Silver, and it shall also be noted that both SecretPotion and Park Ball made their debut in G/S. The references to G/S is also more than in Generation III.

By hack the games, you can also se data for two Johto-locations after what I read at Bulbanews.
And also, a member in the officiall Nintendo-forum in Sweden called Jesqurt said that a AR cheater can SELF choice to go Johto.

This has actually been discussed ad nauseum since like October

The references do hint that it may occur but it is by no means set in stone. The From Johto bit is the main thing that hints at the possibility but that does not make it so

Oh, and that member is lying.

It could be true, before FR and LG came out, someone found the !? Unown data in R/S.

Some references to Johto doesn't necessarily confirm anything. As far as I'm concerned all they mean is that they're continuing to try to connect all of the regions instead of leaving them isolated like the old days. Mass outbreaks of Pokemon from other regions is part of this. 'Course it also allows us to catch otherwise unobtainable Pokemon.

I'd love a Gold and Silver remake, but I'm still not so sure that this generation (Diamond/Pearl, supplemented by Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen) is going to see it. After all, we can catch every Pokemon without going to Johto at all. If Nintendo was planning on releasing a Gold/Silver/Crystal remake they wouldn't have done this the way they did.

Or would they have? Remember how pissed off everyone was about not being able to get the old Pokémon in RS, before we knew we'd get FRLG? I know I was personally one of those who wanted the other 184.

Besides, many of the Pokémon you'd find in a GS remake are either dongle Pokémon, Radar Pokémon, or swarmers. They're not impossible to get in DP, unlike what was the case with Kanto Pokémon in RS, but they're still more difficult than if they were traded from a Johto region game.
