Saw this on Pokeani.

Starting March 18th, Seven Eleven stores and certain hobby stores in Japan will be offering Diamond & Pearl DVD's with the purchase of a Lamune drink. When you purchase the drink (which is this weird lemon-flavored soft drink), you can purchase a DVD for 378 yen. There will be eight discs in total, and each disc contains one episode apiece.

You can also buy all eight discs for 3,024 yen.

The episodes being put on DVD were chosen because they showcase a pokemon being caught. The discs are:

Volume One: DP 001 "Setting Off! From Futaba Town to Masago Town!" (Hikari catches Potchama)
Volume Two: DP 002 "Search for Pikachu! Route 202!" (Satoshi catches Mukkuru)
Volume Three: DP 005 "Naetle! I Got One!" (Satoshi catches Naetle)
Volume Four: DP 008 "Gureggru of the Mysterious Gym!" (Takeshi catches Gureggru)
Volume Five: DP 009 "Let's Play with Mimirol!?" (Hikari catches Mimirol)
Volume Six: DP 019 "I'm Gonna Get this Pachirisu...Is That OK!?" (Hikari catches Pachirisu)
Volume Seven: DP 034 "Buoysel! The Road to Being the Strongest!!" (Hikari catches Buoysel)
Volume Eight: DP 038 "Explosive Birth! Cycling Road!!" (Takeshi catches Pinpuku)

If I offered to pick these up for anyone, would any of you be interested?

Wow! That's awesome!

I'm guessing the DVDs might also be valuable as collectors items.

In that case, it would be nice to have them. But I figure I wouldn't get much use out of them, seeing as how I'm not a big fan of the Japanese version.

Oh, darn it, couldn't they wait? I only come to Japan on October and I'd definitely like the Greggle episode on DVD... and Lamune.

"Lamune"? The packaging on all the bottles I've seen calls it "Ramune". And it doesn't taste like lemons, which confused me even more.

I wonder if my local Uwajimaya will have this promotion. But they haven't even gotten the cucumber-flavored Coke in yet.

It's pronounced "Lamune". However, La and Ra are represented by the same character. That's why it's called "Engrish".

So, DVD's with soft drinks. I'd start collecting DVD's if I got them with frozen cherries. *Is frozen cherry fiend :)*

How is that Engrish? Switching R's and L's for a JAPANESE word is not the same thing as mixing up the r's and l's in an English word like "grand."

I've always seen it (even in English letters) as "Ramune." And yeah, the taste is pretty unique.

Anyway. It's good to see Takeshi episodes there. Sometimes you never know.

The Engrish comment was a general example of the R/L thing since it's one most people recognize. Sorry for not spelling it out.

You know what they really need to do?

Copy TOEI and their Dragonball collector sets and release Pokemon that way.

I can't believe the entire Pokemon series is not on DVD available to purchase in Japan, even after all this time. Is it usual for them to wait for a series to end before they put it on collector DVD sets over there?

Silly question: These aren't going to have English subs on them, are they?

I am so getting those DVDs.

Do you mean Pepsi Ice Cucumber? I thought that was around in Japan for a couple weeks and then disappeared again. Or is Coca Cola copying that now?

What's a Uwajimaya?

My town doesn't even have a friggen Seven Eleven anymore, the slurpees rocked.

The bottles of Soda Pop in the games even look like Lamune/Ramune. I'm not sure whether to think this is a coincidence or not.

What's a Uwajimaya?

It's an enormous Asian grocery store found on the west coast. Their stuff's from all over Asia, but most of it's Japanese.

And I don't know who made the cucumber soda, I thought it was Coke. But when I asked about it after it first came out, the guy at Uwajimaya said they probably wouldn't get it for a year and a half. I'm not sure why there'd be such a huge delay.
