“I’m so fat!” She wailed, staring at herself in the mirror. Fat, heavy tears ran down her cheeks as she stared at the massive, distended stomach pushing out the front of her dress.
“Delia,” Giovanni said, trying to reassure her. “It’s normal to gain weight during pregnancy. Besides, think of the baby. You’re eating for two now.”
She sniffed as she moved over to the coffee table, opening the cookie jar and piling a plate with oatmeal cranberry cookies. “Really?”
The man nodded, hoping that she would not begin to cry again. It was remarkable, he thought, how he could run an underground organization dedicated to heinous deeds without batting an eye, yet the thought of this pregnant woman getting angry gave him the chills.
She cuddled against him. “Love you, ‘Vanni.”
“I love you too,” He murmured manfully, ignoring the crumbs falling onto his dry-clean only Italian suit, and hoping that the child would be born soon.
