Did anyone else wish Dawn had more evolutions or heavy hitters?

Mamoswine is really the only Pokemon of hers that ever gave off a powerhouse or "tough" vibe to it. You can say Piplup gives it off too, but its still more full of itself due to the pride associated with it.

The only other evo's she had was Ambipom, which she released, and Togekiss which barely counts as she didn't raise it and it was just given to her.

I understand why they kept her team mostly girly and cute (again except for Mamo), but its really a shame a female characters team can never look tough at least while they're on the show.

Togekiss was a waste of a Pokemon as it was barely used after the GF anyway, and Ambipom gets shoved off for no real reason.

Maybe Iris will get a more "tough" looking team for a main girl, although I doubt it.

This is the 1523424 thread I see you are opening about "Togekiss was a waste". Just stop it already.

...Would you really want Dawn to have a Lopunny? Just imagine the crush it would have....

No, I don't think so. Shame she got rid of Ambi, but it was at least replaced by another Pokemon.

I think overall her team would be fine. I think it really emphasizes her contest style in general. And another thing its likely we'll be seeing her again in a cameo and I'm pretty sure Cyndaquil will have evolved. Maybe Buneary will too because it won't have to be the size of Pikachu.

Piplup - I'm glad it didn't evolve actually. It set it apart from May's Blaziken and it allowed it to become a true mascot of DP. Hydro Pump and many victories make him a heavy hitter.

Buneary - Nando's Lopunny was just a giant middle finger from the writers who wanted to say, "Hey look, here's how awesome and slutty looking Buneary could have been. Also Piplup/Lopunny is much more interesting match against Glameow/Gallade then Piplup/Togekiss... She just should have evolved.

Pachisiru - Can't evolve. But I'm still glad she got it, it gave a different look on electric pokemon.

Buizel - Was the heavy hitter of her early team but got traded.

Ambipom - Fully evolved and as seen against Gardenia and Yuri, it was a heavy hitter.

Mamoswine - Fully evolved and def powerhouse.

Cyndaquil - Would have liked to see a Quilava but was introduced too late and the writers probably already meant to evolve Ash's Cyndaquil. Blame the fact that HGSS was released after Platinum. Though I definitely see a Quilava or a Typhlosion in Dawn's future cameo.

Togekiss - Never should have been caught (but technically a fully evolved heavy hitter)

I think they broke the mold with Dawn a bit more, giving her 4 fully evolved pokemon, three of them (Ambipom, Mamoswine and Togekiss) can't really be really seen as super cute.

I think they did everything right - it fits Dawn's character to have mostly cute and little Poké
Though I'd prefer her to have Aipom as an Aipom a little longer (Aipom evolved like immediately after the trade) and for Buizel to do a Contest with her before being traded to ASh
Also, I'd like her to get Togekiss earlier (possibly as a Togepi or Togetic)
Buneary should've learned a new attack since its capture...
Other than this, I'm content with Dawn's team... I think the writers did a pretty good job

Not really? Dawn's style isn't about trying to overwhelm her opponents completely but rather, technique and lots of strategy. I like her unique style. Besides, I'd count Piplup as a heavy hitter - I mean, look at his whirlpool and hydropump. Might have a small body but he can dish out a lot. I don't see anything wrong with them with being cute since they have proven themselves to be quite tough.

While it is stereotypical that all the girls get a lot of cutesy pokemon with one or two to set apart from the main team, remember Ash used to have a bunch of super cute critters on his team before the female characters started playing a bigger role in the anime.

The only problem I do have with Dawn's team is that there's too much ice and water and Buneary needed a new attack.

No, not really. Dawn's Pokemon is used for contest, they don't have 2b big or tough, her team overall is good enough for me

I would have prefered if she kept Ambipom and for her Piplup to have evolved but other than than her team is alright.

Yeah. More of Dawn's Pokemon should have evolved (Buneary into Lopunny for instance). It's possible that Cyndaquil will evolve eventually, but I don't see Piplup evolving at any time soon.

Evolved pokemon are usually more fun to watch in matches (case in point, Mamoswine and Togekiss), so yes, I would have liked to see more evolutions. I fail to see why at least Cyndaquil couldn't have progressed a stage, and I definately would have liked to see the painfully dull Buneary gtfo.

I never looked on Dawn as a "tough" contester, cool, cute and beautiful on the other hand, yes.
I actually thought Mamoswine felt displaced in her team.

As much as I generally prefer evolved, heavy hitters, I think Dawn's team suited her pretty well really. The small, cute Pokemon fitted well with her contest style. Besides, she wouldn't have been able to use techniques such as spinning dodge so easily with larger Pokémon.
Buneary could have done with an evolution or a new move to make it less boring. And there was a slight overuse of ice attacks.

But that last scene at the end of the GF with Dawn and her Pokémon made me feel that her team was quite complete the way it was.

I was okay with Dawn's team in a weird way. It was lopsided, but it worked. The only regret I have is not seeing Lopunny because it would've made an awesome compliment to the overpowered Mamoswine and Togekiss.

Piplup, Mamoswine, and Togekiss aren't enough for you?

I'm absolutely fine with Dawn's team. It had a lot of personality. Something that some of the other characters' Pokemon didn't have.

I'm good with Dawn's team, just wish it was used more >>

I agree. It's a nice team, but I wish that some of her Pokemon were used more often, especially Buneary and Pachirisu, and that she tried to teach her Pokemon new moves. She has trained them to use combine their current moves, but I still wish that she would actually teach them new moves too.

Buneary evolving would have been awesome though. I love friendship evolution and it would be have been cute to see a more of Dawn's bond with Buneary onscreen so that it could have evolved. In retrospect, it would have been a bit nicer for Dawn to have Aipom a bit longer before she evolved. I believe that it evolved like two episodes after the trade. I wasn't bothered that Buziel didn't get to perform in a Contest with Dawn mainly because I always thought that it worked better on Ash's team than on Dawn's. Using Swinbu more often before it evolved would have been nice as well. It could have stood out some more and I would have felt more sympathetic for Dawn when Piloswine wouldn't listen to her.

Buneary should've learned a new attack since its capture...

Except she already had nothing but fairly high-level attacks at the time of her capture. While the videogame levels don't really mean much in the anime, Buneary doesn't learn dizzy punch 'til level 36; and bounce at 46. Ice Beam isn't even a natural move, and requires a TM. She should've perhaps been given a 4th move... attract, maybe.

Point is moot. Torkoal had Overheat yet it learning Heat Wave was suddenly a massive deal.

I fully agree on it learning a new move as its appeals suffered of repetitiveness in the latter half of DP.
