I mean, come on, ash spent his time getting constantly pwned by paul, looses 6-1 in an uber-hyped battle, and so on.
Then finally, when he manages to beat paul, it's on his last pokemon, against none of the pokemon that spent the last 3 series serving him his own ass on a plate. (except electivire, which looked like it was in there for storyline reasons, and pika fails to beat for the millionth time)
-None of his 'mons manage to resolve their rivalrys, and ash only just wins- so do satoshi fanboys really have anything to crow about?:banghead:

I could make a joke including the words Ash, Paul and top, but naaaaaah too easy.

Ash beat Paul, rivalry resolved. End of story... or is it?

Well you could argue that Monferno and Electabuzz had a rivalry, and now that's solved. I think it's good enough that Ash beat Paul with the pokemon that he gave up on.

Eh? Just cuz some of the Pokemon's rivalry didn't resolve any thing doesn't mean a thing. Ash beat Paul's Pokemon and that's, that I'd say that's one thing Ash fans have been waiting for all region. So of course we have some thing to be happy about. I'm very proude of Ash for being able to defeat him, I feel he did such a good job.

The most important thing to note is that Ash managed to beat Paul with the one Pokemon that Paul could not train at all and spent most of his time calling weak and useless.

So the point of the rivalry wasn't whether Ash's team was as strong or stronger than Paul's, but that Paul's method of training wasn't the absolute way of embracing one's potential.

Ash is in a battle with Takuto, so that means he's still in the game. Just because Ash lost one trainer after Paul doesn't mean that Ash isn't any good.

Thats pretty much it. And it seems that Paul has lightened up considereing the smiles and him asking about Infernape. And then Cynthia's speach about their "invisible" friendship.

I agree with you. It was more Paul and Chimchar then Ash and Paul.

The writers have the final say in who wins in a given situation.

Ash lost to Paul several times in the series so that the latter would have longer staying power.

Ash finally defeated Paul on the account that the writers needed to settle their rivalry once and for all (end of series).

However, I give my credits to the Air Master for training Gliscor up.

Ash topped Paul when it came to proving that his style of battle. However, one could argue as Reggie mentioned that Pokemon and Trainer relationships are based on compatibility rather than which style of training is better than another. Ash proved that “his” style of training was more compatible with Chimchar as proven when Chimchar not only unlocked its true power, evolved into its final form and controlled its Blaze power while under Ash’s care.

Now overall, Ash won in terms of raising Chimchar considering that “battle styles” was the cornerstone of their rivalry. When it came to overall wins, Paul takes it hands down. Ash won their biggest match which of course took place in the SL where the winner moved on to the Top 4. Then in the Pokeringer match he took some ground over Paul. However, Staraptor didn’t beat Honchrow, it just knocked the ring on the catcher before it. Overall, seeing how they come to respect each other in the end was touching. A nice closure to their rivalry, I really hope that the two fight again. The match will be a fun one rather than solely based on who has better control over the monkey you know?
