Ok, I watched the new episode yesterday when Ash gets to Sunnyshore and finds the depressed Volkner. Dawn talks about how he is the toughest Sinnoh gym leader without ever being defeated. Then at the gym, the trainers could just take a badge and presto no battling!

Barry bragged about how Sunnyshore was the best gym, and Paul said it was not legit! I imagine Paul doing what Ash did and he possibly met up with Volkner only to have him reject a battle. Then Paul probably called him pathetic and went to find another gym for his next badge.

So, does this mean that Barry simply took a badge and bragged about how he had 8 and was qualified for the league? I was a bit annoyed at Dawn’s attitude about telling Ash just to take a badge without battling.

I liked Ash’s attitude because in Kanto, for example at Brock and Misty’s gyms he was reluctant to take the badges without battling.

Well, knowing Barry and his hyper-active nature, it wouldn’t surprise me if he simply took the badge without thinking about skipping the battle and running off. That machine did say that this gym skipped battles and gave out badges.

Well, seeing as how he got it before Ash met Volkner, and Paul was disgusted when he saw Barry with it... yes, he took it.

Dawn or brock should of took it then brag back when they get home that they beat a gym leader. :D
Barry probably took it.

He probably did, but I think there's also the possibility that he earned a badge from a different gym, knowing that there were always more than eight gyms in previous regions. Unless of course, we did see that he had the Beacon Badge, but I don't remember such a time. Maybe someone can refresh my memory if that is the case.

Yes, he showed Ash and friends all 8 of his badges and the Beacon badge was one of them.

I think that Barry just took the badge, then bragged to Ash on how it was the "best," (because of the fact that Volkner was the toughest Sinnoh Gym Leader) even though Volkner wasn't willing to accept challenges.

To be fair, the badges were there for the taking =3

Um, yeah, I thought that was obvious.

We know Barry took it, because we see his badge case in DP163.

Si senor! Of course he took the badge. Let's count the facts here, Volkner was undefeated at that point, Barry battling skills are pretty questionable and close to Ash, Paul claimed it was the worst gym, and Volkner just had all those badges in the open. They even showed another trainer taking a badge from that bin.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he did.

LOL yeah they were, and honestly I don't think of him any less for doing that. He's always in a rush anyway :p

Yes, I agree that he got there before Ash without a doubt considering Barry doesn’t have to stop to participate or watch contests and I’m certainly sure that he doesn’t stop to help every Pokemon/trainer on the road. That would waste too much of his time and he would fine anyone that stopped his journey haha!

I don’t think that he showed Paul his badges, but he did say that like Paul he had earned all 8 badges. Ash then talks about how he will catch up to him by earning his 8th badge at Sunnyshore gym. That is when Paul talks about how he is disgusted by that gym. Then Barry talks about how he thinks that Sunnyshore is the best THAT is how Paul knows Barry got the badge.

Yeah, that would have been funny considering the badges were just sitting there. I mean they could have at least taken one as a souvenir haha. Yeah, I could see those two returning home talking about how they conquered the toughest gym in Sinnoh! That would have been good for a laugh!

Yes, I don’t have anything against the people that took them except for the fact that they didn’t earn the badges. It was their choice to take the badges and take the easy way out. Volkner gave them that choice to take it and not go to another gym to earn one fair and square.

Um, yeah, I thought that was obvious.

Yes, it was a bit obvious, but you have to remember that Barry is one to exaggerate from time to time. Such as when Ash beats him in their first match and he says that he is still oddles of times stronger than he is or when he boasts about at the rate he is going he will be the #1 trainer! That was after Empoleon easily beat Ash’s newly caught Gible, yeah Barry that was one victory to really brag about…

I mean when he first said that it was the best gym, I got the impression that Barry fought Volkner and won. However, at some point he just kept on winning and got bored. See, this was before I knew about him having an undefeated streak against all of his challengers.

Come on people, no need for being smart in your posts. I was just asking a simple question about something that I thought about after watching the new episode.

I kinda hoped that someone would've scolded him about not earning it and just taking it, but of course his payment came when he lost to Paul 3-0

Yeah, that is the price of not working hard. I mean its one thing to just take the badge, but another if you train like crazy for the league in order to make up for that gym match that you avoided. He just omitted the chance to take on another leader in Sinnoh to increase his skills, but he took the easy way out. So, I agree with you 100% on your comment.

Barry is the type of trainer who likes everything to come easy. He loses his cool completely when the flow of a battle starts to go against him. Why would he risk that if he didn't have to? Of course he took the Beacon Badge without battling.

:embarass:Guess I gotta watch that again.:sweatlol:
I'm saying "yes" now.

I just watched the episode online, and he opened up his case to show Ash and friends all 8 badges. This happened right after Ash said that he was headed to Sunnyshore to beat the leader and Barry/Empoleon both busted out into laughter. Then he showed off his badges. Not only that he said; “I already beat the Sunnyshore Gym!”

This is where I got the idea that he beat the gym leader, and see he does exaggerate from time to time. He talks about how it is the best gym and that Ash should hurry and get there in order to win his final badge.

Haha sorry I couldn't resist voting "no", just for the "lulz".

But as you should now know, yes. Yes he did. :D

so that means there's tonnes of trainers who didn't even get 8 badges, but are competing in the sinnoh legue? I can seee it now, ash beats paul, and in the final against the darkrai trainer, the officials are like "urr no, you didnt actually get that badge mr darkrai man, you're DISQUALIFIED. therefore ash wins the legue. biggest plot twist EVAR, ash wins sinnoh by default.
