Did PokeRinger inspire Sky Battles?

I've been rewatching old episodes lately for story ideas and such, and I noticed something. In AG and DP, there was the concept of PokeRinger, where Trainer and a Flying-type Pokemon (or a Pokemon with flight capabilities, such as Dustox and Skiploom) competed in an aerial-style battle. In both cases, Ash won with his regional Flying-type evolving into its final stage. This had me thinking. Did the anime-exclusive PokeRinger possibly inspire the concept of Sky Battles in XY? They both share similarities, such as being exclusive to flight-based Pokemon, high-altitude aerial battles, and Trainers who specialize in the subject. What do you all think? Discuss.

Considering its basic concept and heavy emphasis on Flying-type Pokemon, PokeRinger could very well have inspired Sky Battles. I kinda hope PR gets revisited in this new anime series
