I guess this would be an anime only question, but are there any characters of the show that you originally didn't care about, but then you ended up liking because of a ship?

How has shipping caused you to change your view on various characters?

Professor Oak was always a background character with little to do but dispense advice or get trampled by a random Pokemon during an episode. But when I got into Eldershipping and started reading the fanfics, I really started to like him more as a character. Delia is generally presented as a ditzy person in the anime, but the more I got into that ship the stronger and smarter she appeared to me (mostly in fanfics, a little more so on the anime).

Well, I definitely got into Lance because of Championshipping, though I tend to use Special-Manga Lance. Nonetheless...

On the other hand, I also tended to *dislike* other characters because of shipping, like Gary and Paul.

There was a time when I couldn't stand Ash. When the Pokemon anime started, I instantly began a deep seated hatred with him(Ash). Then, when May made her first appearence and I saw a different side of Ash and how he interacted with this girl and as time went on, Ash started to grow on me, and now, I like Ash a little more than I used to.

And that's how I got into Advanceshipping.

Interesting. I actually came to like Paul as a character after shipping him with Chimchar. ^^;

That's interesting. Well, I've never not liked Ash, but I do totally agree that with May around we saw a completely different side of him that wasn't just hot-headed, tempremental(sp?), and impatient.

Anyway, one character that I've grown to despise even more than I did in the first place due to shipping is Kenny. I still haven't entirely gotten down to the bottom of why, but I hate Penguinshipping, and therefore, hate Kenny even more because of it.

On the flip side, while I did like Zoey's character to begin with, when Appealshipping got a bit more popular, her character really grew on me and she's now one of my top favorites. And then with Paul, I started to like him a bit more once I started pairing him with (an aged version of) Casey in my fics. Similar thing with Tracey, I liked/respected him more as a character once I started pairing him with Misty via Orangeshipping ^^

Shipping Paul with...hmm...I'll have to get back to you on that one.

yes. This is totally right.

The one that's probably changed the most is Nozomi-if I didn't ship her with Hikari, then I probably wouldn't like her very much at all...actually, the only thing I like that really involves her is Appealshipping.

And all the 12-year-old Contestshippers make me like Contestshipping (and also Drew) a lot less. Srsly. I don't really mind it, just like how I don't mind Drew, but neither will ever be my favorites.

And also if I really think two characters are awesome (if I like their interaction) then I'll ship them together.

...the only ship that even intrigues me a bit as far as major characters in the animu who've never met is Paul/Misty. I mean, think about it. Seriously. I must be crazy (then again, anyone who contemplates things like this too much can't really be perfectly sane/typical/normal in the first place even if they have total white-bread choice in shippings), but then I think of how they'd interact...

And oddly, it's one of the few het pairings that interests me at all. I've never been a huge fan of het, and I've liked it less and less as i've gotten older and older. And I also don't really care about taboos...only thing I could even be considered even a bit against is like, human/pokemon, and even then, I like Pikashipping a little.

And sometimes characters I can find really boring are salvaged pretty much entirely by shippings *coughTraceycough*. I mean, he does live with his literal idol...

...I just went on a huge rant. Sorry. :S

I never really saw much of May in the anime, as I stopped watching it regularly sometime around the beginning/middle of Johto, but after reading a few Advanceshipping fics, I've come to like her a lot -- more than I think I would if I had just my impressions from the anime to go off of.

Well if it weren't for DraggirlShipping (ClairxLiza), I would've never cared a bit about Liza.

I find it funny that even though I hate IkariShiping more than I ever hated DragonShipping or AdvanceShipping, I still like Hikari a lot. Maybe I'm maturing XD

Hmmmmm well since I've seen the shipping of Hikari x Shinji or Dawn x Paul I've been like seeing the interactions between them and been reading some fanfics on fanfiction.net I think that further and futher like Sunyshore City and the Pokemon Leage that shipping might be possible but I still lislike how Paul trains his pokemon like Chimchar

I'm sure many pokeshippers would said contestshipping change their mind about May :p

But I donno I use to think pokemon was running out of ideas (like rotoms forms for example :p) for shipping, Exspecially for Dawn but it make me like her character more for having so many ships.

I have to say this: I hated pretty much everything to do with D&P, until I saw a couple of episodes and decided that they were probably going to pair Kenny and Dawn up in the long run (if anything).
Somehow, what started out as a filler ship for two characters I hate turned into a serious ship because I then actually tried to understand their characters, and came to conclude that they just seemed to click.
I've really paid more attention to Dawn and Kenny, and really thought about their personalities, because I shipped them together.

:)

I also have found myself having to take a second look at characters because of shipping, but nothing has changed my basic interpretation of them as severely.

Well for me something did change. it was my opinion on Ash. when i first saw Ash in the Kanto series and Johto he always to seem to fight with Misty. soon it became a common promblem between the two and made me watch less of pokemon since they did fight quite common.

But when Hoenn jumped in i thought we are just going to see the same Ash fighting with the new girl but i was wrong. the more i watched the more i asked myself. is this the Ash i know? normally he would start a fight over a small thing. he acted weird and some how nicer to May than i ever seen. this made me believe and get into Advanceshipping.

But when i comes to Dawn they fight a few times but not as much with May. there is something about Ash and May that i just can't pinned down or yet explain in my own words. there is something about dose two.

Anyway that is my opinion about my change of charather in the anime sereies Pokemon.

I lost intrest in pokemon during jhoto because i got tired of misty. But when the introduced May in the anime, i was surprised in the attitude change of ash towards others, as he always used to fight with many people he met as battlefreak602 said. I haven't seen any D/P episode as they just started airing battle frontier saga yesterday.

If not for Rocketshipping, I would still have a huge crush on James. He's still adorable, but I'm now more in touch with reality, which is something I need to be a bit more.

jasmine, [mikan]
i hated her cuz' she dresses weirdly, [no offense]
but i suddenly liked her cuz' she has a steelix.. [lurve that pokemon]
and she's with volkner, :D

Noes! Volkner is with Roark :p

Yeah, I changed my opinion of Byron after I started shipping him with the ever gorgeous Riley.

At first I hated May because she replaced Misty (I'm a HUGE pokeshipper!) but now she is one of my favorite characters simply because I LOVE CONTESTSHIPPING!!! I'm still looking for a reason to not hate Dawn though (sorry, I just really really don't like her).

May...was kind of boring to me. I can't explain why. Then Drew came along with Contestshiipping, and I really began to like her.

I think I hated Dawn at first because she was so perfect in personality, and so girly. It took some looking into Pearlshipping before I actually started liking her.
