(As opposite of Fullbring's "Has anyone on the main cast made you dislike a certain Pokemon?" thread)

Like it says, what Pokémon did you started like when the anime showed or debuted (when a character caught it or had it) that Pokémon?

EDIT: Changed the topic as requested by Iteru.

Would main/major rival's also be considered part of the 'main cast'?
Cause I can honestly say Paul made me love Ursaring and Magmortar, two Pokemon that I didn't really like much. I really like Bianca's Pignite and Emboar, their designs appeal to me more in the anime than the games, same for the Timburr line with Trip.

Out of the main group, I'd say Mamoswine.

Freaking Wobbuffet man. The show helped me turn around my opinion of the species in the first place, but I probably wouldn't like it to the extent that I do if it weren't for the fact it joined Team Rocket and became such a card. Sadly, his importance and presence waned over time, to the point where he was usually just there, but his earlier years infuriating Jessie, duelling Meowth for the coveted 'That's right!', terrifying folks by popping out of nowhere and having cute misadventures were brilliant.

And more recently there's Kenyan and Sawk. It's a case where I wasn't fond of either the trainer or the pokemon, but their involvement in the mini-arc really opened my eyes as to how cool both of these dudes really are. It also helps that their final battle vs. Throh was probably the best fight in Best Wishes thus far.

Also, Mukubird. Never expected much out of him, though I probably should have known better given how hilarious he was right off the bat.

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

Ash and Charizard <- for the epicness of that Pokemon

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

All TR Pokémon(EXCEPT Yamask and Woobat)(When Team Rocket WAS part of the main cast, now they're just recurring)

Ash's Squirtle, Totodile, Torkoal, Torterra, and Krokorok.

Misty's Politoed and Corsola.

Brock's Forretress, Ludicolo, Sudowoodo and Croagunk

May's Skitty and Munchlax.

Dawn's Pachirisu, Mamoswine and Togekiss(Plus her expatriate Ambipom)

Iris's Excadrill and Emolga.

Cilan's Stunfisk.(It's a better character then Cilan!)

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

All of Musashi's Pokemon hurrr

I used to think Croagunk was really ugly and just didn't like it at all. But then Brock's Croagunk was so funny and charming that I warmed up to it in the end. Actually, I've trained many main character's Pokémon in the games that I wouldn't had really used otherwise.

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

Thanks to Ash's Tepig and Bianca's Pignite/Emboar, it's my favorite starter.

I also like Iris's Axew, a lot, because the anime made it really adorable.

Yeah TR had a lot of good ones. Victreebel used to be just another grass Pokemon, but after watching James's I realized it was awesome. Chimecho is another good example, and of course Wobbuffet. For Ash and co, Kingler, Corsola, Squirtle, Chikorita, Vulpix, Mudkip, and Grovyle were all Pokemon I liked already but liked even more in the anime. Edit: Oh yeah, Corphish!

I actually started liking Treecko and its evolutions simply because the one that Ash had was so badass. It influenced my choice to pick it in game over Torchic. The anime also made me like Corphish, and I went out of my way to get one in the games as well.

When I was younger I also remember really liking Brock's Onix for some reason, as well as Vulpix.

If Paul counts, then its because of him that I became more interested in Torterra.

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

Definitely Corphish. For a pokemon who originally seemed like a Krabby clone turned out to be one of the funniest and most memorable Pokemon he ever had.

Corphish is a comedic water Pokemon done right, unlike the forced and tedious Totodile and Oshawott.

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

Oh wow. Croagunk for sure. I never even really cared for it at all when I only had the games. And of course great characters such as Sudowoodo, Wobbuffet, Staraptor, Gliscor... the gen 5 pokemon didn't really change my opinion because this is the first time I've been following the anime alongside the games, but Pokemon like Throh and Sawk I've warmed up to, too.

However it's also increased my dislike for Oshawott. Ehe..

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

I got sick to death of the sight of all the elemental monkeys in Pokemon Black & White, but I love Cilan's Pansage. He's a tough and reliable Pokemon, and I love watching him act like a foul-tempered version of his trainer. Same with Chili and his Pansear; can't wait to see if Cress will have a focus episode so we can see if his Panpour acts like him as well.

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

I would say that the anime has heavily influenced my overall opinion on a huge number of Pokemon, especially those who I was indifferent towards simply based on their Sugimori art or in-game sprite. The best example I can give in this regard is probably Ash's Gliscor.

As a species I used to completely overlook Gliscor when it came to browsing the Sinnoh Pokedex; it was simply one of the many 'strange' evolutions of Pokemon from previous generations that propped up the 'dex in D/P - Probopass, Tangrowth and Lickilicky to name another few. Even when Paul had caught Gliscor at the same time as Ash catching Gligar, it gave me a different impression about the Pokemon's design than its Diamond and Pearl sprite did, but little else. However, after Ash's Gligar evolved I gradually warmed towards Gliscor, helped in large part by its clumsy personality. About a year later Platinum was released and I made the conscious decision to take full advantage of the expanded Sinnoh Dex. I happened across a wild Gligar near to Wayward Cave who I chose to give a roll of the dice in my party and, after obtaining the early Earthquake TM due to the Gible portion of the cave being made accessible two badges in, she unsurprisingly came in extremely useful and became a permanent fixture on my team. I was also happy to discover that Gliscor's sprite was representative of its anime design, and looking back it is difficult to believe that I ever ignored the Pokemon.

Satoshi no Tsutaaja. I was going to take Snivy anyway, and then Ash's Snivy... Meromero wa kōka ga batsugun!

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

Ash made me really like Gliscor.

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

There were some species' I flat-out hated in the games that I absolutely love in their anime counterparts.

Zuruggu, for example. I remember playing white and being like "what the fuck is this scraggy shit it looks so UGLY and oh god its evo looks FUG"

DERPLOONS. UGH. I didn't know how cute they were until I noticed they had a perpetual :< face and I just fell in love because the entire Kurumayu species is just so adorable xD; favorite pokemon for the win!

I love the entire Gligar line, mostly because all episodes that ever feature a Gligar/Glion are always ridiculous, and Satoshi's was so damn cute and derpy. Skorupi definitely. Animated!Skorupi is SO cute! what's with the anime making scorpions adorable hurrhurr

I MEAN LOOK AT THIS FACE.

I definitely liked the Kimori line more because of the anime. Also the Mukkuru line. And some others that I'll post when I think of them xD

Gliscor'd, telling like it is as always. :)

Pretty much Ash's entire Hoenn Team for me...I liked the Treecko line, but Swellow, Corphish, Torkoal, and Snorunt and their families quickly became some of my favorite Pokemon in the whole franchise, especially Glalie. I even...don't laugh...used Ash's Hoenn team in my Emerald run (well, minus Pikachu, and letting Corphish evolve all the way) and it rocked. :p I also started to warm up to Pikachu a bit more during AG/DP when he learned Iron Tail and Volt Tackle, although he's back to being a bit "eh" in Best Wishes for me.

And everyone Team Rocket has ever owned, especially Carnivine. I love that dude. :(

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

Ash made me really like Gliscor.

This.

Other than that, Excadrill, Torterra, Chimchar, and Tepig were all Pokémon I didn't care for before they made their appearances in the anime.

Re: Has anyone on the main cast made you really like a certain Pokemon?

Gliscor, Kingler, Muk, Infernape, Charizard, Sceptile, and Snorlax.

I liked Wobbuffet before it was cool (really, I can truthfully say that. I had one on my team in Silver before Jessie captured her's. Something about the design just amused me.)

As for a pokemon the anime helped me warm up to...well, Mr. Mime was initially one of my least favourite pokemon of Generation I (second only to Jynx - I've never particularly gone for the humanoid pokes, see). The design and concept of the pokemon did not appeal to me at all when playing the game, but when Delia Ketchum got her's my opinion of it definitely softened. The anime incarnation had a quirky cuteness to it which I simply couldn't gauge from the sprites in the game. It's still not a favourite, mind, but I like it a whole lot more than I used to.
