Since Brock's was the only water starter belonging to a main character to evolve did the writers not find Mudkip cute enough to be a marketing ploy like Pikachu, Axew, Corphish, Buizel and rest of the water starters?

They just don't like Brock. He's pretty much what happens to any long running character who doesn't either get reset like Ash or have a personality change like TR.

I think that it is an unfair assumption to make that the writers are obliged to keep the water starters unevolved as they are marketable. Mudkip remained unevolved during the Hoenn saga while Treecko and Torchic evolved into Grovyle and Combusken respectively. Many of us felt at the time that Mudkip was being heavily neglected and that in the Battle Frontier saga it was high time that it caught up with its fellow Hoenn starters and became a Marshtomp.

Sadly Brock didn't tend to get as much focus as he warranted in his time on the main cast, so it was arguably a very risky experiment to distribute the starters between Ash, May and Brock in AG when one of those three wouldn't be able to use their starter as actively. It still feels odd that Treecko and Torchic made it all the way to their final forms while Mudkip remains in its middle stage. The prospect of Brock ever having a Swampert to complete the set of fully evolved Hoenn starters remains a pipe dream.

Im surprised Torchic evolved period im just glad the writers didn't find it cute enough to be their marketing whore like Piplup was.

Why is it odd? None of the starter sets are fully-evolved across the board. You could argue that the Hoenn ones came the closest, but by the same token, it is equally odd to see Totodile with Bayleef and Quilava.

Mudkip was not the problem, Brock was. Ash and May's starters reached their final forms because their Trainers used them in battles and Contests regularly. Brock didn't used Mudkip enough.

It would have been cool, but the main problem was that Brock didn't use Mudkip enough for it to evolve to iits final stage. Plus he had Lotad fully evolve.

It seems to be a pattern that the main characters' water starters don't evolve to their final stage, that's even if they even make it to their second stage.

Oh right ^^' My mistake.

Well in that case I really don't mind if it didn't evolve to its final stage. I'd rather have it evolve once than to not evolve at all.

Well Morrison had a Swampert and it didn't beat ANYTHING it tied with Corphish and that was it. Keep in mind how strong Harrison's Blaziken is and Morrison was also a league rival not a winning one but p'still

I'm sure someone on staff thought that mupkip was cute but giving it to someone who wasn't going to be doing anything was their mistake. I bet you that's why they won't do that again.

Yeah it's a shame Mudkip didn't get enough love. I know you could say that Brock's pokemon in general didn't really, but his Croagunk and Bonsly were quite exposed, the writers could have made Mudkip, Brock's little mascot.

Is this a serious question??

If it is, I would prolly say yes, but Brock did do a lot of things with Mudkip, and he WAS a rock-type gym leader...
