I know some of the HMs are downright useless in battle (Flash or Whirlpool), but are necessary to continue the games.

Have you ever used HM slaves? Or did you just distribute them evenly?

For 3rd gen, I use geodude(rock smash and strength), marill(surf, dive, and waterfall), and roselia (flash and cut)

For 4th gen, I use geodude(rock smash, strength, and rock climb), bidoof or bibarel(surf and waterfall),budew(cut and flash), and random starly for defog(why would i put defog on a staraptor anyways...its completely useless!)

But for 1st, 2nd, and 5th gen, I really didnt need HM slaves but that's just my opinion. :sweatlol:

The only HMs I teach to my Pokemon are Fly and Surf. Everything after that goes to a Pokemon like Bidoof. So yes I do you slaves.

I like to spread the HMs around my team, that way I don't carry a pokémon that could end up taking the spot of a more useful mon, that and having a pokémon who can only use HM moves kinda makes that specific mon boring and overall, no fun to have around.

I think it's almost necessary to keep an HM slave around....i mean, how many times did you honestly use the move rock smash? Or how about flash? That's what I thought. I keep my team super awesome and stuff until I see boulders and small trees surrounding me, and then I bust out the HM slave.

Yes, they take up half my party.

Why half?
I only use one or two in my party.

In Soul Silver, for instance, I want to fly, climb waterfalls and cliffs, surf, pass whirlpools, move and smash rocks and sometimes cut trees, which makes 8 HMs and a Pokemon can usually learn 3. If I find a Pokemon that can learn 4, like Mew, then I only need two slaves. I don't always need 8 HMs, but you never know. It's very annoying when you come to a place you cannot pass.

Well, I said no...because honestly I like using Surf and Fly in battle. So I always have a surfer and a flyer with me. And as of Gen V, the other HM moves have become sort of optional. But I still teach non-party members HM moves (Cut for Purrloin/Bellsprout, Rock Climb and Strength for Machoke, Dive and Whirlpool for a water-type Pokemon, etc.).

yes some of the HMs are useless but, spread out they dont mess up the entire move set of 1 pokemon. then later after u passed the part u needed the HM for and u create a strictly battling team you can use the move deleter and remove the useless HM. the useful HMs can be kept because the more useful once arent completely terrible attacks depending on how you raise your pokemon.

No why would I.

I spread them out and they spread quite well. I never use Flash or Defog. on the rare occasion I need whirlpool or Dive then I have a water type in a pc box to use briefly while needed. But Strength, Surf, Rock Smash, Cut, Waterfall, Fly are all on my team.

Normally I just have one slave for the job, and then have Fly and Surf on something I actually use.

But, Flash is not useless. Flash is the most awesome move ever.

It depends. Sometimes I have the HM's like Surf or Fly spread out among my main team and sometimes I have a Bibarel-like Pokémon dealing with the HM's. Thank God that BW reduced the number of necessary HM moves. ^^

Yes. Old games it was a Kangaskahn, now its Bibarel and Tropius

until they make it to where I can actually delete HM moves like any other move, I will always use HM slaves

I use to have am HM slave, but then I realized that it didn't need all the HMs all the time so I have temporary pokemon that learn Cut and Flash when they're needed. The only HMs that stick around on my team now are Fly, surf, and strength.

I use Surf and Fly in my team, not HM Slave. In 4th gen, Staraptor learned Defog(and also fly). Almost other moves are learned by HM slave.

I usually have an HM slave or two, just for when I need them. Occasionally I'll distribute some of the HM's. Fly and Surf/Waterfall are actually decent moves, so I usually have some team members know those, and on rare occasion strength.
