Did you want to see A.J. from episode 8 participate in the Indigo League?

I know that he was just a character of the day, but he proved to be a very good trainer. He was the one with the seemingly unbeatable Sandshrew and it looks like that he equips all of his Pokemon with what appear to be Macho Braces.

The guy won 100 matches in a row without being defeated once (he would do very well if he competed at the Battle Tower don’t you think?). A person that had a Fissure using Pokemon that early in the series would have been a force to be reckoned with! He said that he and Ash would meet again and battle in the league, but then again try to think back to every single person that said they would battle Ash again and never show up again (that will lead to a major headache thinking about all of those trainers).

His Pokemon were trained to be practically pumped-up Pokemon. A.J. mentioned that he catches savage Pokemon and trains them. Like Paul, he trains his Pokemon in a very stern way. However, he actually cares a lot about his Pokemon especially Sandshrew just looking at the way he reacted when it was kidnapped by TR.

How do you think he would fair if he actually did compete? I mean we never hear or see him again and I am sure that Ash and his friends would have recognized him if they saw him on-screen during the competition. There is also no mention if he earned the 8 badges needed for him to compete anyway. I’m pretty sure that he would have a Sandslash and if he and Ash were to battle it would have been a pretty good match.

That would have been awesome.

I'm pretty sure AJ's lost his fair share of matches by now, but it'd be nice to actually see how his journey has turned out so far.

He had potential to be more than a CotD, i'll give him that, but unfortunatly, he was never heard from again. If he was in the Sinnoh League, Ash probably wouldn't recognize him without a flashback, but still, that would be awesome!

It may be nice to see an older CoTD like AJ make another appearance, but the chances of that are pretty low.

It seems cool in hindsight, but to be honest, I'd actually forgotten about him by the time they actually got around to the Indigo League. And then he inexplicably appeared in the Orange Islands opening and I was like "Oh yeah, that guy".

That would be a big surprise.

Are there people clamouring for the triumphant return of A.J.?

When I was 8, yes. And when he was in Pokemon World I hoped it meant he'd be back for something in the Orange Islands, but nothing ever came of that. The anime was different back then, now it's better.

I was pretty unassuming back then. Chances are, I did not remember his existence by the the time I saw the league eps.

Back then yes, now no.

The Marowak guy had all 8 badges and didn't even appear in the league.

Back in the first league, definitely. The second and third opponents there were ultra-generic and horrendously boring, and Akira had already been introduced as a badge-gathering trainer far more skilled than Satoshi at the time they met. He was the perfect character to bring back, but unfortunately it was not to be. A shame.

Much too late now, though.

The Marowak guy had all 8 badges and didn't even appear in the league.

Meh, he was lame, and had already been defeated by Satoshi - not to mention been shown to have exactly one not-horribly-sucky Pokemon. A rematch with him would be pointless.

i thought you meant sinnoh league, i suck at reading.

In indigo, i wouldn't be shocked. a tad surprised maybe.

God no, he was bland and his accent was excruciating... Though, he sorta was Paulesque

Are there people clamouring for the triumphant return of A.J.?

He's clearly the legendary trainer... no wait it's the Metapod samurai... we've finally cracked it.

I found it amusing that he basically trashed the living hell out of Misty and Brock, but they decided they loved him. It may have helped that Ash was in full moron mode throughout.

With that said, a reappearance would be kinda cool but unlikely. I'm sure somewhere along the line they might put him into the background somewhere just to see if somebody is paying attention.

If a CotD from S1 hasn't been seen since his single appearance, don't ever expect to see him again. Many of the older viewers will have forgotten him, and the newer fans will have no idea who he is.

Haha it's funny. I COMPLETELY forgot about him. And I've seen the first generation countless times. Hell, I bet I forget about him after like 10 episodes every time lol. But he was a formidable trainer. Very formidable. It would have been much better back then to have him show up at the league instead of a few others.

let's see, Akira was a very promising Trainer who was taking the same path as Satoshi, but the writers apparently forgot about him by the time the Sekiei Tournament rolled around and couldn't even bother to give him a short cameo to at least show us that he made it in (which we know damn well he easily could've done), a mistake they'd repeat years later with Grace. Bashou and Buson never had a major appearance since their debut in the Crystal special, even though the opening of the Manaphy movie teases us with a plot that just begs to be expanded on. Kurotsugu is the leader of a Battle Frontier..... that doesn't look as if it's gonna be adapted at all, so no rematch for Satoshi.

Is it just me, or does Nobuyuki Hiyama have a tendency to land Pokemon roles that show promise for a (potentially major) return, only to come up short due to the writers' hindsight? His voice is quite badass, so that's a real shame. T_T

I am referring to A.J. coming back to compete in the Kanto League in season 1 only not in the other leagues seen. Though I feel that if he ever did come back in other leagues he would be a force to be reckoned with in my opinion. Only if he continued the same style of training, and imagine the power of Hoenn/Sinnoh/Johto Pokemon under his command if they endured his rough training with the end result of unbelievable power. Then he could really give Ash and his other rivals a run for their money!
