Digimon fic- any chance such thing could survive here?

So, my immense writer's block perssits on not going away, so I came up with another idea- I have to write something coherent after all. As you've guessed already, it's a Digimon one of all things. You'd say, what's so different plot-wise from the generic parts of Pokemon. Boy/girl and his/her Mon yada yada blah blah blah. Thing is, for all the great things of the Pokemon franchise, Digimon has always had a darker and edgier feal, thus making it easy to make it even more dark and edgy without making it feel out of place universe-wise. Basically, I can practise writing more mature stuff and generally introduce themes in the story that'd be too dark for Pokemon LX.

One of the main themes that I thought of is that there's a reason 98% of the tamers are kids to pre-teens. Coupled with the fact that the one thing that influences Digimon the most (besides the del button on the keyboard) are emotions, the Sovereigns having to choose older kids (teens) in this case yields somewhat different result when the tamers mind can't anymore see things in black and white. And amidst all the shades of grey, the tamers themselves are not overly fond of how their lives have suddenly changed and/or that they are forced of being a team. And the bad guys have finally realised the potential of influencing human emotions and having a partner as well. Of course, there want be guys and girls that are just EBILZ here and smashing staff away. But the chances for manipulation by the evil guys- many.

Good things is, the Digimon I've in mind for partners have the "original" feel IMO and are all cannon, only the slightes alternations in evo-lines whenever needed. The new Chosen (unfortuantely for half of them) Children are 3 cannon characters (I doubt you'd guess them) and 3 OCs.

I'm thinking of experimenting with different writing styles in this fic while taking it seriously at the same time of course, but what I want to ask is:

Can a Digimon fic survive and be liked and read and reviewed by people here?
 
Simple Answer - No.

This is a Pokémon Forum, and Digimon is the enemy.
 
Not a chance, to put it bluntly. While the idea has some appeal, it simply wouldn't make it.
 
Let's not all cheer him on at once, guys.
As for my opinion, it's a risky venture. As everyone else said, it would be pretty hard to get it off the ground, but it could work. Just be warned- I don't think there are many Digimon fans here. Heck, I'm not even a Digimon fan; I watched the show once or twice as a kid and never came back.
That said, I like to think of fics as a way to express yourself (that sounded so corny)- views are just a plus. So even if you finish with practically no views (which is highly doubtful), you still get the satisfaction of writing it all out.
You could make something out of this if you write it well (and you do write well. REALLY well. So that's not really an issue).
And hey. On the plus side, your story will be pretty unique. Can't say I've seen any other Digimon fics hanging around.
 
I'd read it, but I have barely a 20% chance of knowing what you're talking about.
 
Gee, what a positive attitude. :p

Well, least 2 people might read it. Not bad for a start. Besides, it's not like I'm not going to explain things as I go.
 
I'm personally a Digimon fan, mostly of the third season (Digimon Tamers), so I totally support this so-called "bad idea" (they're all joking, of course... aren't they?)

Now, please, tell me which of the many series you'd base it on, yes? :ksmile:
 
Well, my fave's Tamers, the only relatively really dark one out of them, so... :)

I personally don't like dark series just because they're dark. Tamers was really boring for me. So was Frontier, but that's another story.

Tamers was the most polarizing season; I understand what you're saying. Unlike you, however, I kinda like dark stories mostly because they're more likely to be exciting and complex... but that's not the reason I like Tamers, just so you know.

If anybody has been paying attention to my fic history so far, you'll notice a severe lack of anything outside of shipping (yes, what has kept Digimon Tamers in my mind for so long was actually a couple of ships). I appreciate the plot too, don't get me wrong; I rewatched the whole series recently for it (there's just something in it...)
 
I liked the first season of Digimon only slightly. After that, it went down the drain for me. I vote no.
 
Well, I already have to prologe done. I'll probably post it when I finish the yet un-started first chapter. It's good to be writing something again and I guess it's worth a try to post something new written by me. I feel out of shape.

I totally know what you mean. Good to know you feel fine with it, too. I hope it all goes well, even if this topic has been almost mean (...they're all kidding, right?)

I'll keep watch to the best of my ability :XD2: (consider telling me anyways; I want to read it)
 
I like Digimon, and I'll understand where you're going with it. You've got a reader.
 
My advice is to just post it. If you're a great writer, which I'm sure you are, people will read regardless of what it is, unless they're the kind of person who's already made up their mind to hate whatever it is you wrote.

Obviously, being that this is a Pokemon-based forum, it won't get as much attention as Pokemon fics, and I do say that out of experience.
 
I used to watch it before it went dumb with the "suits" and stuff those seasons after Tamers.
My personal favorite was Tamers, I once watched the whole series on Youtube in 3 days!
So yeah, if you make it Tamers, then I'll read.

Well, it's not going to be Tamers per se. It's the series I'm gonna draw inspiration from and from which one of the charatcers comes. And I've already thought how to incorporate a card system in all the stuff.

Yeah, we kind of know, but that's actually enough; it won't be out of the blue or anything...
