Long seen as being extremely similar to Pokemon. What are you're opinions on it?

Personally I love Adventure02 the plot line of Ken in that was extremely clever and put depression spot on. Tamers was also very good in my opinion, how could you not find the character of Rika endearing? With her losing her farther and all. Frontier is ok, I don't think it's the same standard but it's likeable enough, but certainly not exceptional a bit like Adventure.

I've not watched the new one by the way, but with adults in it? Hmm that could be interesting actually if they actually act in an adult way.

Well, they're not so much "adults" in Data Squad as they are older teenagers. Unless you count the non main cast DATS people in that as well.

My favorite character in all of Digimon is Yukio Oikawa. My favorite DD is JP Shibayama.

I like Digimon, I'm a fan, but not a super fan. My favorite TV series from it is defiantly Tamers. I loved Tamers, I loved it for the main character's Digimon, I loved it for the Story and the Cards (I thought it made battles more dynamic for the humans), and I loved it for Impmon. Impmon was definitely my favorite character in the series.

As for the series as a whole. I really lost track of the number of digimon (what are they at now? 1000) (To unintentionally compare it to pokemon) I always thought the releases of Digimon was kind of sloppy. 9 new digimon here, 6 new digimon there. Some digimon only being partially completed (Like the Rabbitmon and Apemon, or what ever their names were from frontier, they never got evolutions or baby forms), and also with the evolutionary chains constantly changing. I don't know who decided that, but it's a pain in the ass for any of it's fans. I also hated that some digimon designs are just redesigns of others. That's horribly lazy, and many better excuses could have been made for color swapping (like pokemon does)

That really made keeping track of your favorites when you play the games annoying. If I was running the series, I'd do some serious revising of the property as a whole.

As for the tired argument of if Digimon is a rip-off of pokemon. Doubtful, highly doubtful. Digimon, I believe, is older, but regardless it was a natural evolution/spin-off of the Tamagotchi property. Both ideas aren't completely original out of no where so the argument is silly in the first place. Every Samurai property isn't a rip-off of another is it? So why should we do the same with monster raising series.

Oh yeah, the newer one! I forgot all about it, it's okay. I don't know... they made it feel more generic to me, but I've only seen a few episodes. It just seemed like a regular shonen fighting anime with Digimon splashed in. It's not horrible, I just don't think it stands out as much as it could have. The idea is cool though (but that's because it is essentially like tamers) I still like it better than Frontier.. however, I don't hate frontier, I just like it a lot less than the other series.

As my name probably says for me, I'm a huge fan of Digimon, every bit as much so as Pokemon. For me the best seasons were one and 02, the combined plot over two seasons, carrying the stories of the same incredible characters. For me, my two favorites have to be Yamato (Matt) and Takeru (TK), and their digimon obviously.

I never really managed to get over the whole broken story to enjoy Tamers (season 3), and Fronteir was... weird lol. Just about the one thing that struck me about it, was how much better it would have been if Gabumon's mega had been MagnaGarurumon instead of Metal. That thing is just weird lol.

Rabbit is Neemon and "ape" (classified as a mutant) is Bokomon. And they both have full evo lines, we just didn't see them in Frontier.

Datirimon, on the other hand, despite being hugely important in the end of 02 (if not to the plot than at least to a certain character), has no official line at all. Although I like to think that it involves something with butterfly wings.

Datirimon? I watched O2 religiously and don't remember any digimon I could identify with that. However I only watched the dubs, so could you describe it for me if you don't know the dub name?

Ah, it would seem I missed the last episode lol, I don't remember that thing AT ALL lol. I guess it just goes to show that things aren't always as you remember them. Thanks for the info Blackjack.

Well, I loved the first season, having watched all of it. The second was good, but I missed a few things... I got lost on the third and I have no idea about the fourth, let alone anything that came out after it.

Anyways Gabumon's mega was MetalGarurumon becouse Agumon was WereGreymon (WarGreymon? Thing is that he has an humanoid pose). But yeah, it'd have been better if they made that different.
Unless you are talking about something completelly diferent...

My favourite season is the 5th, Digimon Savers (and yes, the original, uncut and better one). I'm sorry but Keenan Crier is lame name when opposed by Ikuto (can't remember his last name)

And when pokemon/digimon fans go "Digimon/pokemon is better than Pokemon/digimon!", I usually answer that Digimon has better anime, pokemon has better games. And to me, the plots of anime are quite different. In hte games (at least the new Digimon games for DS) the consept is similiar, but still original. There's usually no evil team in digimon, more like one person/digimon that is evil.
And in Digimon, the anime doesn't rely on repeating that pokemon does: I mean, think of it, pokemon: Ash & co. arrive somewhere, TR attacks, Pikachu uses thunderbolt and TR is blasted off in every episode. In EVERY episode! *><* That's why I don't watch pokemon anime. I only play games.

Please don't hate me for ranting. I really think both of them are good in their own ways

I like Digimon but I'm only going by memory of the first season and the movie. The Movie is the only Digimon DVD I have since that's all you can buy in Australia retailers now by ordering through them.=(

Plus I haven't seen the anime in years since it kind of stopped on free to air in Australia years and years ago and hasn't aired since.

The only way I can see episodes now is online and I just haven't had the time to try and watch those online with everything else I watch online. I got the Digimon world DS dawn and Dusk games and enjoyed them alot but ironically they're imported from America. Let's say Australia decided to not release the DS Digimon games so the only way is through shops that are willing to import.=(

It's unfortunate because I want to get back fully into it but I'm actually finding it hard to due to how Australia's treating it.
Anyway my favourite digimon is Veemon and Flamedramon and I guess my favourite season is the first since that's all I barely remember. I watched the second season years ago but believe me I can't remember how the story went at all for that season it's been that long since I seen it.;_;

I love Digimon. I've been a huge fan of it for years. And Savers quickly became my favorite of all the series. It had such a great plot and wonderful characters. Tamers was great, too, as were the original two. Frontier was the only one that sucked.

It is interesting you put here Digimon thread now when Tamers premiers in Czech. In Czech we only get Adventure (dubbed from censored US version and premiers In January 2002) and 02 (fortunarely this time dubbed from uncut Japanese version and premiers on december 2003). But unfortunately, 02 have really bad ratings, so TV Nova (who airs it) decides to cancel it after episode 42 and we must wait until june 2008 when cable network Animax decides to complete 02. After 02, Animax continues with Tamers and it is said (but still not oficially confirmed) they will air Frontier too.
For me personally, Tamers is the only Digimon series I never managed to watch, until now. It is because there are not fansubs for it, and I didn't want to watch that Saban/Disney's crap they call dub. Watched Adventure this way were enough for my nerves. Fortunately, Animax dub it in uncut version and even though their dub is not what I call good dub, it still is better to watch this then US dub ;-)
From other series I've seen, Savers is my most favourite, but Frontier, Adventure and 02 follows closely. I don't really understand the hate for Frontier. I like it. Especially the idea of humans evolves to Digimon. And I think that from all Digimon series, Frontier have the best Digital World. I especially like Trailmons:ksmile:

The English Digimon dubs are enjoyable, and only edited for broadcast standards (and due to the bizarreness of the airing networks--Toon Disney wouldn't let Data Squad use the word "stupid" even though other shows on there can). The voice acting is top notch, and the writing, though rough in the beginning, is still effective and engaging. Overall it gets better every season.

And I love the Frontierverse Digital World too! It's awesome! Frontier was way better than people give it credit for. Heck, the kids who weren't fighting still managed to be useful (look at the Frontier movie for examples--sure, Takuya and Koji were the only ones really fighting, but they'd have been sunk if it hadn't been for everyone else figuring out who the bad guy really was). Compare with, say, Tamers, where Suzy, Kenta, Kazu, and (disturbingly) Rika were useless in the last battle.

Berwha?

The writing for the dubs is absolutely atrocious. They're filled with horrible puns, and most of the scripts were about as inaccurate as physically possible.

Personally, I also found most of the dub voices to be pretty awful, as well.

Granted, I never saw Frontier's dub, so I can't comment on that. But seeing that show one time was enough for me. ><

I never thought Digimon was similar to Pokemon. The name is close, but the idea? No way!

Now, if there was a Digimon looking like this:

then ya.. but no. I was a big fan of Digimon in the day, but I lost interest after the main series went capooot. Izzy was my favorite character.

I do believe that I was interested more in Digimon in the day then Pokemon cause Pokemon was alot more video-game based than Digimon. I do recall that I had alot of Digimon figures.. where I put them, I have no idea.

It stars Steven Blum. That man alone is reason to watch even a shitty anime. The script is a bit hit-and-miss, but that's my only main quibble. Remind me; how is the writing inaccurate? I've watched both Japanese and English and, editing aside (alcohol becoming taco sauce), it's pretty faithful.

Compared to Pokemon, Digimon does have more literary value, but that isn't really saying much. Case in point? Digimon Adventure: The Movie; that prequel to the first Adventure. I managed to watch a subbed version of the original, and it was the small things that made it worth watching; Hikari cleaning up the mass of drink cans despite her age, for example, or communicating with Botamon via whistle and bubbles. Our War Game is much the same; take when Yamato's grandmother hangs up on Taichi, or when everyone in Japan picks up their phones for a simultaneous call by Infermon. Both movies are well-paced.

Tamers was the best series, because it showed the franchise could achieve merit other than flogging toys. However, the UK hasn't received any series after Tamers; which is weird, as I could have sworn I saw Frontier merchandise at one point. Even so, I'd describe myself as liking Digimon, but not being a fan, though it does have its moments. Possibly another reason for not being so is you get fanboys/fangirls saying Digimon is better because "IT HAS A PLOT LOLZ". So does Pokemon, but while Digimon's is more substantial, it's still pretty thin. And no matter how much they may cry that it deals with sacrifice, friendship and "adult" issues, let me point out it touches on them, then quickly moves on.

Yes, it's a franchise with a lot more letting on, but ultimately, it's still a franchise.

Not everything Steven Blum does is instantly first of all. For example, his Guillmon voice in Digimon Tamers was god awful.

As far as writing, I don't think I need to say anything more than "I am the ultimate evil, complete with hot and cold running water".

Seriously, there were so many times they completely ruined the show by putting absolutely horrible jokes in what were supposed to be serious scenes.

Not to mention, Daisuke's character basically got destroyed in 02's dub, and turned into some kind of moron and jerk.

And don't get me started on the dub's horrible music.

I actually liked it; had a childish quality to it that suited the character (I admit, though, it is irritating after a while; I'm not a total Blum whore, I just think he's got a good range as a voice actor).

Uh-huh, yeah, but since you didn't really say it was inaccurate, you've lost that point.

He was already an idiotic twat in the original. Your point being...?

And don't get me started on the dub's horrible music.

Even if I say "No", you'll do so anyway, right? You actually want me to get you started.

Oh, he has great range. He's a fantastic voice actor. But even the best can have roles that aren't so good or just didn't fit them.

Um, actually I did just say it was inaccurate. The dub puts all these horrible jokes and puns in, where the original was serious.

That's about as inaccurate as you can get, no?

He was already an idiotic twat in the original. Your point being...?

He was no rocket scientist, but he was hardly the idiot and jerk that Nimoy made him. The Japanese version of Daisuke may have been a little slow on a couple things, but he wasn't a retard. And he was also a pretty nice guy, outside of a couple of outbursts. The dub character was a jerk who couldn't even remember someone's name.

Even if I say "No", you'll do so anyway, right? You actually want me to get you started.

Well, I'd prefer not to remember the dub's awful music. I was just bringing up another point as to why the dub was a godawful pile of garbage.
