I know there was a thread about this before, but I have no idea where it's at now. Trust me, I looked.

Anyway, I happen to be a fan of Digimon. I don't know why everyone calls it a ripoff, because last time I checked, Pokemon didn't have any creatures that could revert back to their previous forms or switch between human and creature forms. Also, the Digimon didn't fight for sport. They fought to save their world.

They're more different than it seems, but quite a few people still accuse them of being ripoffs of each other. I don't get it.

To be honest... I'm surprised people are still saying that... Digimon is a spin-off from Tamagotchi

I really enjoyed the original Digimon series. The kids being alone and struggling through the digital world with their guardians/companions was escapist fantasy at its best for someone my age.

Also, Bandai made transformable "digivolving" toys that apparently are cooler than several of Hasbro's Transformers. I now regret not buying some of those...

It was good while the first half of the series lasted, but now they're just running out of ideas. Doesn't stop me from watching it, though. :)

As bell said, Digimon was originally the 'boy version' to the Tamagotchi, and as a resort, was more or less monsters created for the sole purpose of fighting for sport. Unlike Pokemon though, these monsters had to be raised and cared for. Much like their Tamagotchi counterparts, Digimon more or less stayed at whatever evolutionary form they got to until they died (which is also a non-Pokemon characteristic).

As for the series in general, I don't see it as falling short of ideas. Where Pokemon continues just the story of collecting the 8 badges, facing a league, losing, and going on to the next league (in the anime at least) Digimon has a different take on the world in each of its series. We are introduced to a wild and crazy alternate world, a vicious wild world, a world filled with myths, and finally a world ruled over by a Digital God that must eventually be defeated.

Digimon Adventure was my primary fandom for more years than I can remember, and Savers was great as well. Loved some of the games, although the new ones I'm playing more because of digimon obsession than actual quality. (And I want a digimon partner. Though doesn't everyone?)

Hope we get a sixth series, but I'll keep playing the games until then.

Digimon is the best anime I have ever seen!

At least the Japanese version is...

The dub is now kind of a letdown to me. They change too many things and cut random things out.

I don't think it's a ripoff. It's completely different. I have to admit I switched Agumon and Charmander and got confused.

Oh my goodness, I like digimon until it was taken out of air on my local channel. I still wonder what season of digimon That is saw thogh. It was a season that had a Blond girl that wears purple that I saw.

You know what? I just listened to "Believer", and it's a really cool song.

I don't get why they say its a rip off either. I know their are some slight similarites but in honesty, it was just a fighting Tamagotchi.

i remember Digimon it used to be on over here in the UK
its cool

I didn't like Data Squad as much as the other seasons, but at least it had cool songs, like the other seasons do!

Oh, and by the way, momentai!

I really think the characters in Savers are the series' weak point. Most of them are Gary Stus and when they're not, they just don't make a lot of sense.
