Hm, FUNimation and 4Kids really annoy me, I think that removing black people for preventing racism is even more racist. And stupid things like changing an onigiri for a submarine sandwich are ridiculous. And I prefer the original songs...

Well, there are three kinds of anime fan that annoy me:

- Fanatical Naruto fans who can't admit that there are lots of Animes better than Naruto.
- People who think that they are Otaku (In Spain, Otaku has no negative meaning, just means "Anime fan") only by watching Naruto, Bleach and FMA.
- Fanatical Shippers.

FUNimation hasn't done that kind of stuff since Dragon Ball Z.

True. But, Dragon Ball is my favourite Manga/Anime, and the US version is so, so...so that's why hate FUNimation. Censorship and edition aren't my friends.

Another thing that annoys me is those people who call the whole series "Dragon Ball Z", when the whole series is "Dragon Ball".

I was only referring to Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball, however, was done good.

Unless I only reminded you of your annoyance, in which case, you could ignore this.

Ah, OK ^^

But lots of people do what I said ^^ (Arrows, not a smile xD), so please forgive me for thinking that you were one of them. Dummy me xD

so far as I know, Dragonball's editing was purely under FCC standards and are perfectly reasonable (and if you're still gonna bitch about it, they do have uncut DVDs... hell, no matter how shitty a company makes their dubs, the availability of the original Japanese version should change pretty much everything).

Face it, Funimation has done a complete turn-around in the past decade. In fact, they were never really that bad to begin with. Their edits in the first few seasons of DBZ were the result of Saban (who wanted to get the show broadcast on wide-access television), but regardless, they managed to release uncut versions of the movies at the time, which were pretty good. And while season 3 of DBZ and beyond, in spite of finally keeping in the blood and references to death, were still pretty shitty (and GT along with it), again, the original is available, and they have been listening to fans to improve significantly ever since.

I think he meant DBZ in that post seeing as how he didn't have any problems when I said Dragon Ball had a good dub.

But as you said, uncuts are available despite how bad or shitty the regular dub may be. What's done is done.

Fortunately, the Spanish version is a dub of the French one.

Alright, the French dub had some dub errors which the Spanish dub inherited, like "Son Gohanda"...

Only the sexual scenes were cut, but the blood wasn't removed.

It's a shame that the Dragon Boxes weren't distributed in Europe D:

i hate naruto (and viz for that matter), what makes you think i watch it? =]

how else did you know that he says it? and what do you have against VIZ? they may not be the best dubbers, but they're not the worst dubbers, although if you count SJ as part of VIZ they might win the award for worst manga translators right now. and as far as the question of FUNimation being good or not, yes FUNimation is the greatest dubbing company in the US, DBZ was their only mistake (i think all dubbing companies deserve one mistake), and now it's being fixed with box sets that have Japanese BGM with English dub on them so yeah FUNimation has since made up for their past, and has since done very good jobs with all their other dubs. can any of you possibly say that you thought that the YYH and FMA dubs were bad in any way? i can't wait for the new One Piece so that FUNimation can ad another show to their list of great dubs.

People who have these mindset that all dubs, from English to Italian, to whatever, all suck. I mean these are the same people as the Naruto purists who thought the ViZ dub of Naruto was awful. (when it's obviously not)

</3

Well... It's because dubs just have a lot of things changed or removed and have a product that's way too different from the original.
Like Pokemon for example, when did Ash get all those Tauros? And sometimes, the voice actors just suck.

I hate Viz because they make me fork out 7 extra dollars for Xzerox quality photocopies of ranma 1/2 and probably ever other book they make.

Indeed Funi has made some improvements in the past years, though their dubs on their uncut dvds are still edited, their subs are very nice, and being a sub fan... that makes me happy. One of the things that made me sad a few years ago though is that they couldn't keep the original opening for Kodomo No Omocha, but apparently it would have been very hard to get permission to use the original opening song, so I at least understand that it wasn't really Funimation's fault there.

Also, I think that Viz's Dragonball translation wasn't bad at all, but they edited things out of Dr. Slump which really bugged me. I don't want an edited manga... especially when they left all the other dirty jokes in... they should have left Slump completely uncut.

You're comparing like Viz 10 or so years ago to now, where their is no flipping or bad quality

Indeed, the viz of now is putting out some very high quality manga in my opinion. Sure I might have a complaint occasionally, I do love my translated manga very much! :D As long as Viz delivers, they're making me happy. And anyway, Del Ray's manga subsection is a little more pricey, or at least used to be... but again, good quality.

Now, what about ADV? Didn't they stop translating Yotsubato before the series end? At least that's what I've heard... and that is unforgivable imo.

I decided to move some posts from the "What do Anime Fans do that Annoy Us" thread over to here because they would be better off in a thread such as this... and would be more on-topic. :D I am liking this discussion, let's keep it going! :D

My main gripe with 4kids is how behind the times they are, and don't seem to get with the Internet now more then ever people can see what they're missing.

4kids doesn't do uncuts either, bar 6 or so they did once, and alot of their shows don't even get decent DVD releases.

I agree with you there completely. Sure they did a couple of Yugioh and Shaman King uncut discs... big f'ing deal. Their cuts, edits, name changes really bug me. I've never felt that they treated the titles that they translated very well at all.

I think they were between a rock and a hard place there. 4Kids (as well as the Japanese producers) had already been through this with Jynx, and they probably didn't want to go down that road again, so it was easier, they thought, to replace that One Piece guy's skin color with something less offensive. If Jynx hadn't happened, who knows what they would have done?

Viz is owned by Shueisha so basically all the edits to Shonen Jump US is probably because it's what they think will make it fit in with the same age range in the US. I don't mind it because so-far they've only edited out crosses and swearing. (Though, I found it amusing to see D. Grayman with two different edits to an early comic, one for Japanese TV and the other for US manga)

My only real gripes for 4Kids is their cheapness holds back their potential. Essentially they don't bother because they expect to get most of their money from TV deals anyways, but it takes a big hit on the quality of their shows. Pokemon was probably really good because Nintendo pressured them to, to insure the show be a hit.

If they Hired more Voice Actors and Actresses on occasion, left more of the original BGM, and released serious uncut DVDs it's be great. (Before was ok too, but Literal translations are silly and it made them seem spiteful to do so). I mean, stupid inconsistent edits is one thing (like turning a cartoon gun into a toy or removing a plot line while replacing it a joke with sexual innuendo/ joke references is stupid... though I will give them the "I feel Skitty" episode title, that was pure lolz) because I can just buy the uncut DVDs, but they don't even offer that much.
