In this thread, you may discuss the current line-up of anime airing.

While mostly these discussions are aimed at the current season* other long running anime such as Detective Conan or One Piece which are currently airing are also included.

In case an anime currently airing starts getting a lot of discussion in this thread, you may be suggested to create a new thread for it to avoid clutter. When that is the case, those threads will be listed in this main one.

List of relevant independent threads:

To check the list of anime of this current season, Fall, check the following links:

You may also check the following site to get a countdown of when a certain series' newest episode will next air in Japan: Countdown Anime: TV Series Episode

For your convenience, the following post contains a list of all the anime currently airing kept by the Land of the Rising Sun staff.

*Generally, a large batch of anime starts airing at a time per season (Spring, Summer, etc.), however, it's not unusual for those to surpass the season's time frame and run through others. All in all, seasons are just used as a starting point for anime and not necessarily the period they will air for.

The title in the first column is the Japanese Romaji name of the series. The second column has either the official English title, a translated title (in italics) or nothing (if there is no official English title and the Japanese name doesn't require translation). Only the first airing channel and date is listed for each anime series.

I left the staff and have no motivation to keep this up to date anymore, the following list is for summer 2012, a section moderator may use the table structure and update this if they wish.

This anime season apart from the big names hasn't caught my interest as much as the last two. However, I am keeping up with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Hiiro no Kakera, and Mysterious Girlfriend X. For bigger titles my attention is only with Fairy Tail, Pokémon and Naruto Shippuden because its out of fillers.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is probably my favourite series of the season. It started off as a fun mix of being spooky/comedy, and while I did worry at one point (around the fifth/sixth episode), the series was going too far down the comedy route it managed to pull itself back nicely by toning down the comedy to a level which better suited. The story is very interesting by this point with us slowing learning a lot more about ghost Yuuko and seeing the bond between her and Teiichi growing (Although anyone who seen the latest episode will know a lot has changed for now), enough so as to keep me looking forward to it each week and I really can't wait to see how it ends.

Hiiro no Kakera started off well, but I don't like how much the series has sort of slowed down over the last two or three episodes. At this stage it is badly lacking action, but because it's a Studio DEEN title and very pretty to look at I'll keep watching it through to the end in the hope it picks up again. xD

Mysterious Girlfriend X is just strange. It's the sort of series which shouldn't interest me, but does so greatly. It feels like development between Urabe and Tsubaki is slow and either very little will happen per episode in them building a bond, or a ton will happen. I don't like that much, but at the same time I'm curious to how this story overall will end.

I think I haven't picked up as many series as this season ever before. Of the currently running series, I'm following Accel World, Hyouka, Space Brothers, Medaka Box, Nyarlko-san, and Sakamichi no Apollon; additionally also Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki and Fairy Tail but behind in both due to relatively slow groups. And I'm collecting Fate/Zero and Gon for later viewing.

The weakest of the bunch are Nyarlko and Medaka Box. The first one doesn't seem to have a very easily distinguishable plot, has an annoying main character (the boy, and to some degree, Nyarlko too) and other oddities (like the first scene which was never explained properly). Medaka Box, in the other hand, has a plot, but runs too much on fanservice at times. The first half-episode from last week was great, though. Fairy Tail isn't as bad, but it is slowly tasting like a generic shounen mess, the same path Naruto and Bleach apparently went through.

The other series are certainly better. Sakamichi no Apollon has quite a mature plot and is completely devoid of pointless "boobs in your face" action, and the background music atmosphere is awesome as well, even if I'm not so much into jazz and related genres. Hyouka has top-notch animation by KyoAni and is somewhat exciting. Accel World takes partially place in a virtual environment, which is cool. Space Brothers is another of the mature plot department, and it's slowly developed to be my favourite series of this season.

It's kinda funny in that I was originally only looking forward to picking up Space Brothers and Accel World and nothing else. :p

Recently started Kingdom could arguably be called the first to start the summer season of 2012; here's a preview to the lineup in detail. Most of these series start in early July.

I'm myself looking very much into Sword Art Online; not very excited about the rest.

I wanted to start watching a new anime this season but none interest me at all. I'd watch the Pokemon anime but I haven't seen much of Best Wishes! at all so I'd kind of be jumping in blind. I'll probably give Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi and La Storia Della Arcana Famigila a go though. :3

Not really excited about the Summer Lineup, as nothing caught my eye, except maybe for La Storia Della Arcana Famigila. Even then, my expectations for that one are low, sadly, as it sounds like something that could be great and still gives me the vibes that it will topple itself over.

As for my picks for the Spring, I went with Uchuu Kyoudai, Sakamichi no Apollon, Shirokuma Cafe and Hyouka. None has really bored me to death, though Shirokuma Cafe tends to be a hit-or-miss (gotta love Polar Bear's trolling, though!) and so is Hyouka, which is fun...when they don't overdo the talking. As for Uchuu Kyoudai, it's a worthy watch, although the story tends to feel too linear / easy at times. My favourite one in this mix is, without doubt, Sakamichi no Apollon. Being a Josei (an audience to which I arguably belong to) with Jazz (I love Jazz!) it really hit the spot. I wouldn't go for it if you want Jazz only, though. Jazz obviously plays a major role but it's not alone in the jam.

I just watched the first episode of Kingdom a few nights ago--and all I can say is WOW!!!!

Without giving too much away, we have action, we have friendship, we have intrigue, we have power-hungry rulers, we have bloodshed, we have heartbreak, we have determination, we have suspense, and a plot twist you will NOT see coming as the cherry on top.

Did I mention this was JUST Episode 1?

Kind of sad that the Spring season is coming to an end since there a lot of good shows. As for the summer, I'm only planning on blogging Dog Days' Dash and Tari Tari in addition to Hyouka. I wonder how it will turn it...

Added a table of the next season's upcoming series, will merge it to the main table at some point. ^^ Feel free to suggest/correct the poor translations if you know the language better.

Well, a lot of summer shows have started airing. I've watched the first episodes of Yuru Yuri 2 and Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita. Anyone else?

Well, in addition to Sword Art Online I mentioned above, also now looking forward to Kokoro Connect and Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!. (Also expecting the last of the mentioned to be my season's compulsory bad show for some reason - we'll see...) None of them started airing yet, though. Also, continuing from last season, still following Fairy Tail, Hyouka, Accel World and Uchuu Kyoudai.

My pick for spring is Kuroko no Basket, of course!! It's got about 25 episodes, so it's going to continue till the Summer season XDD It is following the original manga very loyally, and the voice actors are awesome. Of course, basketball being a vigorous sport they can't show everything in detail, but the graphics are cool and the characters have very deep personalities as well as developments. The plot story is also interesting, and it just makes you want to see the next episode restlessly XDD I highly recommend it.

As for any new summer animes, I'm looking forward to Hakuouki 3 - Hakuouki Remi Roku and the OVA Sekkaroku - Chikage episode. The first two seasons had been very enticing and was a very lovely tragic. They say this is a prequel - and I am so excited XDD

Other than following shows that started on Spring (namely Hyouka and Uchuu Kyoudai), I'm still picking up new stuff as it airs. So far I've tried out the first episodes of Arcana Famiglia, Campione!, Tari Tari and Utakoi. It's yet too soon to know if any of them will rock, but all of them are nice, except for Campione!. I watched the pre-air and it was even bad at being generic. I dropped it after 5 minutes...though that's a bit unfair so I guess I'll give it another go eventually. I doubt it'll be much better, though.

First episode of Sword Art Online didn't disappoint, followed light novels to 100%, can't wait for upcoming weeks.

So I recently finished some of the animes of the Summer Season (Fall Season starting this week!). Here's a few thoughts about them:

Arcana Famiglia: Easily the worst of the bunch. The main character, who was supposed to be a strong, independent heir, turned out to be a sheepish and annoying girl. The secondary cast wasn't the most original, and even the few characters with an intriguing premise had to be butchered for the sake of keeping this kind of mafia fairy tale going on.
To make matters story was pretty much no-existent, the mechanics of the world were barely explained, resulting in some ridiculously flawed "laws" (using the term loosely). The animation was a bit derpy, but I guess the artwork and sonority were alright. Not recommended. I gave it a 3/10.

The Anime with a big name aka Uta Koi: It was a fun watch. One could easily notice it was running on a low budget, but it made up with an original art style, which I admit not all might appreciate, and gorgeous scenery, though it had to resort often to still frames, which still didn't detract much from the experience.
The premise was simple: in each episode (or part of one) the anime would interpret various love poems, trying to justify their existence with an interpretation of historical facts mixed with fiction. Despite the standalone feel of most of the stories, they had a loose continuity which leads to the creation of two arcs: he Heian era and then the late Heian era. Between these arcs, there was a parody episode that included characters from both arcs (mostly the first).
Speaking of the parody episode, it was part of one of the biggest problems people might have with this anime (I didn't): the humour may feel a little overdone or silly. Yes, this anime is rather light-hearted and tries to interest younger people a little, so if you do not appreciate a silly joke once in a while you're better off not watching this. Or, if you can take it but in small doses, maybe you should skip the parody episode (episode 6), although you'll be missing on funny, in character takes of a bull race (I hear it's based on a special of some anime), morning talk shows, Ouran Host Club and even Yu-gi-oh!
Another recommendation I have is to give up on memorizing all the characters, or at least their names. You won't be able to. Rest assured, this makes a potential re-watch the more worthwhile.
This anime is clearly directed at a niche, but it's well done. I gave it a 7.5/10.

Natsuyuki Rendezvous: This was the biggest disappointment of the season for me. It started of as an interesting, somewhat fresh and mature romance between a young man and a widow already in her 30s, who were involved in a love triangle with the widow's ghost husband! While the supernatural aspect didn't detract much from the first few episodes, which were very good, it did lead to a situation (during a plot twist I won't mention) that dragged an arc for too long (until the end of the series, pretty much), and it got a bit boring. However, the anime was unpredictable, so despite the annoyance provoked by the situation, I found myself always at the edge of my seat, waiting for what would happen next. The conclusion made up for the boredom of the "supernatural arc" a bit, as it was well done and satisfying.
The visuals were above average and did their job. The audio part was better than the visuals; we were offered touching opening and ending sequences and an enjoyable OST.
All in all, if you can endure some annoyance and frustration and have nothing better to watch, give this a try. It's definitively above your average romance, despite its flaws. I gave it a 6.5/10.

Kokoro Connect: I know there's still a few more episodes coming for this one, but they are OVAs so I'm not counting them for this purpose.
Disappointed me a bit, but I didn't come expecting too much. All I wanted was a funny body swamping comedy, and I kind of got that.
The main problem with this anime is that I never got the feeling it really knew what it wanted to be. Sometimes it was a comedy, and a funny one at that, but then suddenly it became a heavy adolescent drama that felt forced and exaggerated. It didn't help that the main character was bland, probably based on the archetype of your average harem lead (though this isn't a harem per se), but at least the others were mildly interesting. From the quirky but serious class president, to the air-headed physics teacher, the secondary cast was OK. The other members of the CRC (Cultural Research Club) were just as fine, but I had two issues with them: first their problems looked to be blown out of proportions (I'm not saying they weren't problems, but they were taken way too tragically. Tari Tari did a better job at handling normal teen problems) and some had problems, but as characters (Aoki took too long to stop being a cardboard in love with Yui and Iori just made no sense at times). Oh, and don't get me started on Heartseed and co. I can accept supernatural elements just fine, but when there's no explanation they don't bode well. Yeah, mystery is nice but when well placed.
I don't have much to add about the audiovisuals. The animation was good, sharp and clean, and the opening and ending sequences were mostly catchy and enjoyable. I didn't notice the OST much, but it didn't perturb at the very least.
All in all, the best about this was the comedy (unfortunately it's not the main genre and many obvious and funny jokes get thrown away in favour of the drama) and the supernatural events themselves (the body swamping and, later, others), despite having no explanation, helped keeping interest. I gave it a 6/10

I still have Tari Tari to finish but sadly it might take a while. I'm also not reviewing Hyouka since it started in the spring (but I loved it, though it's probably not for everyone - if you don't mind moe and find mundane things interesting, give it a try).

The latest Psycho-Pass was great, I can't wait to see how they develop the relationship between Shinya and Akane.

Well I watched all of the aired episodes of Chuunibyou this morning and I can say the characters remind me of myself in elementary school. Thankfully I never went through that phase in middle school... but dear lord I feel sorry for the main character.

K is said to get a new anime in October. Dunno if its a sequel to last year's K Project

Shingeki no Kyojin is currently the most interesting this 2013 Spring. Awesome

^Really glad I finally watched Psycho-Pass, but I have yet to watch K Project. Anyway, thoughts on current anime:

Shinjeki no Kyojin: Phenomenal anime. This show gives me goosebumps and tears! Sometimes both within seconds! I'm really impressed with the animation, too. I couldn't wait to see what happens next, so I decided to read a few chapters ahead.

Suisei no Gargantia: This one has potential, but the latest episode left me wondering if it's going to become a slice of life. I don't know what to expect in only 12 episodes. It could have a happy ending, or half of the characters could be butchered.

Kakumeiki Valvrave: Has a lil' bit of potential. I have high hopes for this anime because it is Sunrise's project. I literally have no attachment or regards for the main character. I'm way more interested in what L-Elf can do. I think the singing and musicals ought to stop. >_<
