So I feel like there needs to be a thread on this since there isn't one already. ^_^;

As far as handhelds go I've mostly been pro-DS these past several years, but since stuff like Crisis Core I've been leaning more and more toward coughstealingmybrother'scough PSP.

Basically the idea of this game is a Final Fantasy-themed Smash Bros. of sorts, but with one-on-one battles from FF heroes and villains from across the series. Release date in Japan is expected mid-December, other regions TBA.

So... questions, comments? Hopes? Fears? Confessions? Concerns?

A lot of FFVI fans are put off by Dissidia-verse Kefka. The purple DK-Joker-esque makeup is a definite WTF moment (granted the style always changed in the official art, but it was always red).

I've seen sites that list Bartz/Buttz/Batts and Exdeath and Cloud to be confirmed, but I haven't seen any of them in the videos or on the site. Was this confirmed under-the-table or something?

Only two characters per game? And none from Final Fantasy X2? I wanted to see Yuna, Rikku and Payne... Although Yuna and Rikku were in FFX, I don't see why Jecht is so popular...

Another question--according to Ultimecia when she's telling the heroes how stupid they are, Cosmos is a destructive force. So how come Kefka isn't siding with Cosmos? Given that he's all about the mass destruction...unless it's about how HE wants to be in charge of it and not kowtow to anyone else any more.

Wow, only three female characters on the cast so far. You'd think considering the genre that they would have more women bouncing around in skimpy outfits (not that I agree with that, but it is honestly a major feature of fighting games). Well, there's still Kuja to fill that role, with his surprisingly revealing outfit considering he is male.

Well, it is a franchise fighting game from a company known for RPG's. I'll reserve judgment on the game itself until it comes out, as Square is not completely consistent in switching genres (FFVII Compilation, anyone?). Right now, I feel the roster is fairly limited with the whole 1 hero 1 villain per game rule. There are so many more popular Final Fantasy characters from each game. But then again, I suppose this is a safe measure against fan backlash for not having their favourite character in the game. Still, it would have been nice to beat up on Edward, the absolute wussiest Final Fantasy main character ever.

Well, there's not much they can do about the outfits considering they're using previously established characters and all.

Although Terra (if that *is* her in the preview and almost certainly is) fights in a miniskirt, does that count? Hahahaha.

It's pretty much always a possibility that people snoop around and find information that hasn't been updated to the official site yet. They only have one hero and one villain from games I-III and VIII-X, but fansites (aside from speculating who's going to be selected from VI and VII), are saying stuff like Golbez, Exdeath, and Sephiroth will be included. (<-- Please note though that I do not speak French. =/) The credibility of stuff like this tends to raise my eyebrow, but this one claims to have read from Famitsu.

One last thing, can someone search this image collection and recognize anybody, I'm about to go to bed.

Except that Sephiroth was confirmed from the get-go. He was in the original preview.

Cecil and Golbez were just announced in a magazine scan earlier this month.

that, and because they'd no doubt clutter up the whole fucking roster with FF7 characters, or any characters from the Nomura-directed games in general. Let's face it, Square-Enix loves to whore those guys out to no end. Just look at Itadaki Street Special. Now try to think of Smash Bros. having an over-abundance of Mario characters, but ten times worse (at least each of the Mario characters, except Bowser, got to star in their own game).

Still, it would have been nice to beat up on Edward, the absolute wussiest Final Fantasy main character ever.

I myself would've loved to play as (adult) Rydia in a... well, as you said, it's a fighting game. ^^'

I don't see how they consider Jecht to be a villain when he was just an unfortunate circumstance. Seymore Guado was one of the real villains of FFX.
