I liked that Liko and Dot telling Navi how they got their first Pokémon gives an insight into how Pokémon have their own agency. They either choose or are chosen by a Trainer. This helps Navi realize that she chose Ditto, and Ditto likewise chose her. I also like the mysteries surrounding Navi in that it’s unknown if she was born and bred in Lumiose City or if she came from another region. I feel like people might mistake Navi’s words as her having amnesia or memory loss, but it’s more in the sense of she’s too young to remember the past and has a more clear memory of the present.
My favorite part of the episode though is honestly the heart-to-heart moments with Emma. Emma definitely does treat Navi differently than she does with Ult. I don’t mean it in a bad way, but it kind of shows the differences in those relationships. With Ult, Emma treats him like a little brother, while Navi feels kind of like her daughter. I also like the implication that Emma gave Ult his Rotom Phone like how she did with Navi in this episode. It gives some context to why Ult’s not so used to technology.
I think my only gripe with the episode is that they didn’t think about the possibility of Navi losing her Dream Ball on the airship. It did feel a little contrived that Roy suddenly remembered that he let her on the ship in the previous episode. What were they going to do if they couldn’t find it on the streets? Go around the same route again? I’m glad that Ditto took action and saved potential contrived writing. Now that Navi is a part of the team, I honestly can’t wait to see what she brings to the story. I can’t wait to see how the airship’s dynamic will change now that they have someone much younger on board. Let me know your thoughts on the episode!
