Are Pokémon Personalities Watered Down Upon Evolving?

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask if you think Pokémon lose personality upon evolving.
It's worth noting Ash's friends lost much of their Pokémon's personalities (with Rentotar barley having any to begin with).
Onbat didn't have much of it's characteristic as it evolved, neither did Eevui. To be fair however, Eevui's personality was something to be overcomed.

Tairenar still likes looking cute, but it's downplayed a lot more compared to when it was Fokko.

Yayakomo showed little personality that just wasn't shown at all by the time it evolved.

Any other thoughts?

Maybe. Some pokemon keep their personalities while others seem to get new ones. It depends on the pokemon.

Not necessarily. Yeah, there are some Pokemon who become more sedate upon evolving, like May's Wurmple and Ash's Sewaddle but there are others who don't.

Bayleef's crush on Ash continued (heck maybe even got stronger) after she evolved.
Pignite continued his bickering with Oshawott.
Blaziken seemed to remain a bit feisty as a Combusken.
I personally don't feel Braxien's personality has been watered down at all tbh. She still acts the same to me.

I think it's more of the case that Pokemon mature upon evolving. Wartorle stopped being a crybaby, Noivern became more independent, Sylveon got over her shyness, etc. Additionally, the more comedic Pokemon tend to be the smaller, un-evolved, "cute" Pokemon so those who evolve do tend to have their original personalities slightly less prevalent.

Depends honestly... Some of Ash's early evolved Pokemon had very little personality to begin with so there wasn't much there anyway, but I can say it seemed like Donphan and Glaie lost a bit of their quirks once they evolved, but that I suppose that might have been a sign of them "Maturing"... Others like Sceptile and Krookodile kept their cool, calm, and collective type natures.

An example is Ash's Cyndaquil, it was kind of a baby (in a literal sense) as it couldn't ignite it's flames on it's back until it learned how to do it, but once it evolved into Quilava it became more mature and acted cool, calm and collected like some of Ash's other Pokemon

Another example is Ash's Gligar, it was a bit of a crybaby at first but once it evolved into Gliscor it became brave and even saved Ash from falling to his death after evolving, or Dawn's Swinub who after evolving into Piloswine and then Mamoswine started to disobey her and had a pretty wild personality than when it was a Swinub and even Misty's Politoad had a playful personality after evolving from Poliwhirl who had an inferiority complex

So yeah, some Pokemon have a slight change of personality while others don't change at all like Ash's Sceptile, Jessie's Gourgeist or even Brock's Chansey

I can't say much about Brock's Chansey since we didn't have a single episode with it after it evolved.

It's heavily dependant on the Pokémon themselves, as many have already stated.

In cases like Sylveon and Noivern, their personalities were flaws that were overcome through evolution. It's part of their character development but I'd use that term very loosely.

Luxray, I wouldn't blame evolution for this. What else would you expect from one of the male companion's Pokémon? This one is more a problem with Clemont overall being out of focus.

It's like maturing, like humans. Some people grow up and change; some people grow up and stay the same. I believe pokemon do the same. Ash's Charizard used to go through rebellion, but he eventually learned how to respect trainers.

Sometimes they do. I feel like Torterra was just sort of 'there' when it evolved.

I think there are overall more examples of Pokemon who keep their personalities. Gliscor, Krookodile, Charizard, Sceptile, Goodra, Bayleef...
