I've started to wonder this ever since I saw the episode where Dawn got her Swinub. Ash ate one of his poffins and it didn't taste good, because they didn't turn out well. Do humans ever eat Poffins otherwise, or are the just for Pokemon?

I think it's safe to say Poffins and Pokéblock are like the Pokémon equivalent of doggie treats.

Of course, since they are made from berries, I would think they are harmless enough for human consumption.

I suppose that poses the question of what else Poffins (and Pokeblocks for that matter) contain besides berries. In the game when you make Poffins, you add the berries to this...ooze that's already in the pot.

Seeing as Ash has been able to eat foul poffins and recover only from the horrid taste in record time, I assume they're safe for human consumption even though they aren't part of the regular human diet.
...But then again people are also unharmed by being electrocuted or burned to what would otherwise be death in this frikin show.

I'm just waiting for someone to post that comic from Pokesho regarding this topic. xD

I'm pretty sure that "ooze" is supposed to be batter of some kind.

As for human consumption, I guess they can be readly eaten by people, but they're better for Pokémon. The same probably applies for other food Pokémon eat.

Wasn't something similar to that logic appeared once in the anime, PDL? I think it was on that one episode with AJ where Brock was saying something about pokémon food was intenionally made for pokémon, and advised Ash not to eat or something.

From what I remembered, Ash tried some, but it turned out to be disagreeable to him.

Brock only warned him that it wouldn't taste good to him, not that it was toxic or something.

While it's okay for people to eat Pokémon food, it wouldn't mean that it would taste good to them. However, it isn't really known if Poffins fall under the same guideline, since we've never actually seen people eat poffins.

I wondered this because Ash ate a foul Poffin, and he wasn't harmed, but it tasted awful. I just wonder if this is just because it was foul.

Yeah, the ooze is the batter. The poffins are made from berries. If the berries did not harm a human and a human could eat one easily, I assume poffins can be eaten.

I think that Poffins and PokéBlock can be eaten by humans. In fact, they probably taste pretty good. They are made of berries after all, and humans are obviously able to eat them. So I would say yeah, though some of the flavors might not be enjoyable for a human.

In the game, for sure people can eat berries.

I remember Hiker Anthony (Crystal version) called up and said that he saw his geodude or something eating a berry and he tried one and it was pretty good.

Not so sure about in the anime. If pokemons can eat human food, I don't see why it can't work the other way around.

Humans are perfectly capable of eating Pokémon food, it's just that they choose not to due to societal reasons (Much in the same way that people don't normally eat dog or cat food).

I don't think it's harmful but it probably tastes like crap.

Granted, the pokeblocks made from Pecha berries would probably taste good but one made from a Rawst berry would be inedible.

And I think there are people who have probably eaten pokeblocks on a dare.

But people who eat them regularly are rare.

Seeing how they can eat the berries, I don't see how eating poffins can do them wrong.
