Do Paedophile's Watch Pokemon & Do People See Older Fans in Suspicion Of This?

Hmm the moderators are not going to like this topic and fair enough, delete it if you want. I am not here to cause trouble and I'm certainly not a paedophile myself. But it seems allot of people believe, paedophiles watch the anime for the young characters in it, for example Dawn in D&P.

I disagree with this largely personally, the fact is that Dawn, Ash and Brock, etc are interesting because of their personalities in the show and nothing else really. They also aren't really drawn that young and certainly don't act as a 10 year old child would.

So if I say I have pictures of Dawn on my computer does this make me a paedophile? No not really I wouldn't say (this is an example too by the way). I could have photo's of my young nieces 6 and 8 on my computer this doesn't mean I am using them for the wrong reasons.

I just feel it's a little silly for people to flame people who may like the characters looks so strongly, for example I'm not scared to say I think May looks even beautiful, does this mean I find her sexually attractive? No, it's a bit like saying my kid sister is a beautiful little girl, beauty doesn't mean sexual attraction always. I just wonder what you're opinions on this are?

But there is a real issue with people who do sexualise the characters, with awful nonsense like Hetia which I don't even care to know how to spell properly, do you think the company that runs Pokemon does enough to stop this?

Knowing that allot of people who use this board are mature and older (being older doesn't make you mature really but still), so I hope this topic can be treated properly and I aplogise if it turns into a flaming match.

And nonsense like...what? "Hetia" makes no sense, and that you captialized it makes even less. Could you possibly mean "hentai"? Which doesn't have to involve young characters, you realize. And there's nothing wrong with sexualizing fictional characters. They're FICTIONAL so thereby no one is harmed in it, ergo there's nothing wrong with it (and no one give me that bull of "if they see it they'll want to do it" because that's nonsense. That would mean Mario Tennis would lead to people wanting to go to Wimbleton and we all know that isn't true).

I think a few people do and yes I am also of course, this website is good for being adult but others aren't. Aka S.net you know what I mean!

I am not saying it's large but I got a small feeling that when someone grows to around 18, the age of an adult there is a feeling that them still enjoying something made for 'kids' is wrong.

I donno, I'm on there too and I don't have any problems with anyone over my age.

Also you're 18. I have ten years on you. Mellow out. Such a feeling is artificial, so why bother caring what someone that narrow-minded thinks?

Could you provide a link to the discussion, which gave you this impression? I have the suspicion that it was some 14 year old running his mouth and I hardly find that a credible individual or statement to spark a debate.
 
If old fans = paedophiles and bulbagarden has a lot of older fans then obviously bulbagarden = pedophile forum.

Seriously though, you've just got an overactive imagination. Yeah there was supposedly a user on SPPf who openly admitted to being a pedo but that's one person. And come on, a person couln't have just liked Pokemon and happen to be a pedophile? Its a big community, there's bound to be some questionable people.

You know, I'd be more creeped out about the possibility of bestiality in the community.

Yeah the age of an adult according to our legal system. So lets say its my eight-teenth birthday. Oh wow, I didn't have a feeling of unease playing a game I liked days ago, but now that I'm an adult....

Really, if you're going to let age dictate what you should and shouldn't like, and think that by liking something childish that you are a pedophile, then your the one with the problem. If you grow out of it fine, because if it is intended for children, then you will eventually grow out of it.

And really, weren't super heroes like Batman Superman just for little kids, yet many of their movies seem geared towards the adults who had grown up with them. You're not really going to argue that Dark Knight was aimed for young children.

Originally, yes, but the last 20 years or so, American superhero comic books have been geared towards adult fans who read the series as kids, rather than trying to introduce the characters to new kids. It's a sad state of affairs.

Oh come on, this person was at least trying to be genuine. The way I see it, other people don't dictate how I live my life. If I want to play a "kiddie" video game, so be it. People are going to talk and come up with their own conclusions no matter what.

I agree I think the OP may have taken some snide comment made at an older poster out of context or someone was being childish on Serebii, but I do not think this was actually intended as a joke or anything along those lines. Far more it appeared to me that he was trying to get some feedback on the subject and see how people on this site felt, as a sort of weather vane on community opinion. I disagree with the policy that any subject deemed "unworthy" or "silly" should be HoSed just like that.

On topic:
I do not think that old pokémon players are paedophiles and the same applies to any other animé fans (be it Dragonball, Naruto or whatever else), I think one of the main reasons for this kneejerk reaction is that it is far more uncommon over here for adults to be into animé than say for example Japan. Due to the fact that it isn't considered a social norm the people involved are labeled as paedophiels or similar. Look at the users here we have posters here as old as 50 and none of the older posters come across as anything of the like, most have a family and children. I for one believe that it enriches the community if you don't just have individuals between the ages of seven and sixteen, but instead you have many members that can discuss other issues than the series and are able to articulate their points and add more insight than younger posters may be able to.

Well, there may be some padeophiles who watch (or used to watch) Pokemon but I'm sure that none of them is a part of Pokemon fandom I'm becoming really sick of that whole "padeophiles in Internet" propaganda. I remember being asked (more than once, I think) several years ago by my parents "Do you think they can all be trusted?" or "Don't you think that guy seems like a paedophile?" Oh, come on. Would a paedophile bother to become a part of a big Pokemon community? Would a paedophile bother to post in normal threads? Would a paedophile be so into Pokemon? Would a person who I know since years turn out to be a paedophile? Doubt it. Paedophiles don't bother to interest in something as big as Pokemon just to seek for possible victims. Paedophiles also don't make long buddyships with their potential victims. Of course, there are some instances when they talk with the victim for a while to gain his/her trust. But it doesn't take years! Just some days! And after all, most times they just sit at chats and begin asking for child's name and whereabouts. And if the child is stupid enough to give his/her whereabouts, they find and rape it without any waiting.
 
Your generalization on their behaviour is as inaccurate as your theories on gay couples raping children....
 
Not to mention he makes it seem like pedophiles are demonic creatures from the 9th circle of hell who don't have any other function, interest, or capability in their lives aside from raping children 24/7 hours a day, which is easy to do, they just need to find out where the kid lives and they teleport directly into the kid's rectum.
 
Truthfully, I think that if there were any pedophiles watching anime that they would generally stick to more adult geared anime and such, or a kid's series that actually shows nudity such as the old Dragonball series. Truthfully, I feel that there may be some pedos who are attracted to children's cartoons, but I would imagine that they would be in the minority (although I have no statistics to go by for this one, but from the many people I have known over the years in the bulbagarden chat this is the conclusion that I am drawing).
 
Well, you won't know about a pedophile most of the time anyway. Society has put them so low that they basically can't even be honest about themselves without being persecuted, or at least feeling like they will be.

Pedophiles usually aren't too strange in the way they act or live. They've just been constantly pursued by the media which only shows them in negative ways. That leads to pedophile groups being secretive, often acting in secretive groups. Which generates more fear due to them being part of an unknown in most peoples eyes. Most cases of child rape are carried out by someone the victim knows personally anyway.

But this is turning into one of those soap box things, meaning this would be in the wrong forum. So to answer the original question, Pedophiles most likely won't watch pokemon, it doesn't do anything for them. Also apart from them liking children they act totally normal, and thus would be more inclined watch any regular forms of entertainment that most American, English, or wherever you live watch, because anime typically is not a norm among most societies.

I... was just wondering really what you all thought, I am very sick of paedophile paranoia on-line. Not that I am defending them, it's just silly for example if parents of a child to think they'd hang out on this forums. And to be very honest if someone even my age says in a picture thread "oh Dawn looks attractive". That doesn't really make them a paedophile.
 
If you like Dawn (or Misty, or May, or whoever), that's cool. To hell with what anyone thinks or says. You are your own person and shouldn't change to fit the views of other people. I have pictures of fictional characters on my computer too. No reason to sweat it.
