Do the Japanese ever complain about the show?

As dub watchers and forum users, we love to complain.
And the complaining we do about the show has turned into an art-form.
"It's so childish, it's so repetitive, it's so mundane, the characters don't get to do enough" are just some often-heard complaints at our end.
"If only this happened; if only he/she did that or just said that; if the music was better; if he had only used that move," ...our list goes on and on!

But what about the show's first target audience?
What do they think of the Pokemon anime?

Besides the rise and fall in box office earnings of the movies; I don't see any disapproval of the show at all nor have I have seen any form of critical disapproval on their part.
(Except that old Porygon incident, but digging out old controversies from the past is besides the point of this topic.)

Is it right to assume that the Japanese think that the show is perfect the way it is?

I can't read Japanese so I don't know what they talk about over at Pokeani or Pokesho's fan forums.

I've always been curious what Japanese fans think about the show, but it probably isn't all that different than us.

Anyone who does? Or knows what goes on in the Japanese fandom regarding the show's opinion?

I'm sure they do, there was stuff like one of them speculating that Gilgar was Team Rocket's. But unless someone knows Japanese and feels the need to lurk on forums like Pokeani and Pokesho, we won't know how much they complain.

Its easy to tell what they DO like, if all the Japanese fanart is anything to go by. If you get what I mean. lol.

I hear it's still very popular in Japan, so I guess they have no complaints. D:

From what I've seen, it also seems Contests are a lot more popular in Japan. It would explain why the writers kept them in the anime for so long. It'd also explain why Dawn was made into a coordinator instead of something new.

I read a little bit of Japanese, but I wouldn't really know where to look for the opinions. Plus anything more than uh... some less than 100 kanji and I won't understand it without the aid of google translate/looking the kanji up online.

To be honest, if you have an idea of where best to look, I'm always willing to take a crack at translating things, but don't expect too much if you see a pile of complicated/chinese characters. Plus things would be harder to decipher due to the equivalent of 'chat speak', and I know VEEERY little of it.

You can't say they think it's perfect, because I'm sure there are those who don't. But we also can't say they think it's horrid, because I'm also sure that there are those who don't think that either. Unless someone who's part of that side of the pokemon community comes here to post, we can't know.

And @Scott85 Oh god I know what you mean. *facepalms* Dx The R-18 filter, IT DOES NOTHING. щ(゚Д゚щ)

@NyaChan

Personally it took me three years to get up to speed on just the English fandom before I became a bulbagarden'er.
Decoding the Japanese fandom... , um well ...:boom:

Japanese anime fans really aren't that different from anime fans here in the West. We all gripe about the same things, and think we know what's better for the show then the people who are actually making it.

I think the only difference is the Japanese are used to long-running shows that go on for hundreds of episodes, so they probably don't care how long the show goes on for.

Of course for us in Europe the main complaint isnt so much the content of the anime but the districution of it.
Talking generally the amount of available anime in UK in particular has seriously declined especially on tv with pokemon being about the only thing left on tv here
Even the number of DVD releases seems to have decreased

This question is actually pretty easy to answer....since we're all human, whether we're Japanese or American, we've all got out our own opinions and complaints about different franchises and shows. There's no doubt in my mind that there are people in Japan that might have as much distaste for Pokemon as much as a stereotypical overprotective American soccer-mom type of person. Same thing goes for cartoons that are made here in America, there's huge fans of them while at the same time, there's people that feel the complete opposite.

Except that's true for all fandoms, regardless if they're Japanese or American.

Ever hear of rule 34?

The first time I went to see the Arceus movie I asked them what they think of the show. They all gave it universal praise. Same for the second time I went. And the third time. And the fourth time. Then again, it may only be die-hard fans that would go see it anyway.

I'm sure there's some Japanese whiners like us. :) Maybe we don't hear much complaints from Japan, besides the fact few of us can't read Japanese and few Japanese fans on Bulbagarden, is just that the Japanese version, subjectively, is better. I don't know, best I can think of. I can vouch I like it better. If I ever learn Japanese, I'll lurk on PokeAni and find out.

Bah. Simple complaining is universal. A leisure that all cultures and species can participate in.
I'm more interested to know if they have any of the same nut-jobs. You know the types - overly obsessive, taking the show FAR too seriously, trying to find hidden meanings to the most minor of details in order to paint the creators as evil brainwashing fiends. That kinda thing!

I hear it's still popular, and Pokemon Sundays still exist over there. I believe some of the magic might be lost in translation. Maybe the dubbers crap the series up a bit when they dub. I would say why, but that would involve stating opinions on voice actors, and getting an infraction's not on my to-do list.

Most of the fans on this board bitch about what the original writers do way before they start bitching about the dub. =P

So true. On one forum I'm on I remember fans complaining about the Aipom and Buizel trade and later the Ambipom release.

The Ambipom release complaints got so bad that one forum had threds upon threads getting made about how big of a mistake it was and if they keep doing this the show is ruined.ect.

Interesting both these didn't get as many complaints when the dub aired.

It was more chaotic when they first aired in japan.

It's just human nature I guess and some people love to complain no matter what version it is and I'm pretty sure there's Japanese who complain about this sort of stuff aswell even if we don't see it.
