Do you agree with the writers choice for the mascot of the BW anime?

Who really deserves to be the mascot of Best Wishes?

I am curious as to why they picked Oshawott to be the mascot of Ash's team with Pikachu? They made such a big deal out of Zorua and Zoroark before G5 was officially out, and now that it is out, we don't seem to really see them in the anime except for the one movie and Luke's Zorua.

In the past 4 gens, the official mascot of the games and of the anime have been pretty consistent with each other. So why is it different this time around?

Do you like Oshawott as the mascot of the Best Wishes Anime or should Zorua/Zoroark have gotten the honor? Is there another G5 pokemon you think should have gotten the title?

This is, of course, assuming that if they went with our opinions, Ash would catch the alternative mascot. Please, do not turn this into an anti-oshawott thread, I simply want opinions and reasons.

I don't thin kthere really is a mascot for Best Wishes. I think that role is shared between Ash's Pikachu, Oshawott, Tepig and Snivy.

The mascots of "BW" are Ash's Oshawott, Pikachu, Snivy, Zoroark, Zorua, Reshiram, Zekrom, Emolga, Samurott, Emboar, Serperior, Iris's Axew, Team Rocket's Meowth, and Tepig. They are all the mascots of Pokemon right now, Oshawott just gets the most screen time out of all of them. These Pokemon get regular screen time, because they sell a lot of merchandise and are mascots of the game. And, yeah I have no prob with the mascot choices, I loved Oshawott to death at the beginning of BW because of it's attitude and how it can deflect attacks and battled sort of like a Ninja but, honestly the show has made Oshawott into a bit of a brat and attention whore at times, but I still like him though ^^

Poor Palpitoad, Swadloon, Tranquill, and Roggenrola wish they were mascots ^^;

I normally wouldn't care who the mascot is.

But then we got Oshawott.

I'd rather we had a mascot that was less eye-scarringly fugly pushy and forceful.

To be completely honest, I was biased against Oshawott's species from the outset, but his attention whoring in the anime has lifted my hatred to a new level.
It's like every time he appears I can hear the writers going "Do you like it yet?"
"How about now?"
"Like it now?"
"HOW ABOUT NOW?"

The other annoying thing is that mascots tend not to evolve, which is a shame because Oshawott's evolutions are kickass. Here's hoping they break that trend.

As for other candidates for the mascot role, I think Scraggy should have been introduced earlier, though he's already a sort of "tertiary" mascot anyway.

I'm a mix of the last two options. I think BW is shit as a whole and the mascot thing is surprisingly not the biggest thing dragging it down (but it is significant enough to be worth mentioning). While I like the concept of Ash finally getting a Water-type that will fully evolve (and isn't Kingler), I'm really not fond of the Oshawott species and I've had more than enough of the Water-type regional starter being crammed down my throat in DP. Though Oshawott is more likable than Piplup by a mile, it's still not really my favorite of Ash's Pokemon. If I had to choose I'd have to pick Snivy because I think she has the best personality out of the lot and it'd make up for how Torterra got boned in DP (though Ash has a tendency to favor those Grass-type starters a lot, doesn't he?), plus I think out of all the final forms, Serperior is most suited to Ash's battling style. I've noticed over time that Ash tends to suck with tanks unless their name is Snorlax; Samurott and Emboar are a bit bulky if I'm not mistaken.

So yeah. I hesitate to choose mascots because the anime tends to screw up with giving non-mascot Pokemon the limelight they need whenever there's a major mascot in the mix. I mean sure, you could argue Infernape was Ash's mascot for DP, but he didn't have that until the end of DP's first year and really, all of Ash's Pokemon got their time to shine throughout the series, so I'd say arguably in DP Ash didn't have any one mascot set for the whole series. Funny how that resulted in the Sinnoh team being pretty well balanced without anyone feeling left out, huh? That's definitely why I don't support this whole mascot thing. The concept exists for marketing rather than anything story-related and more often than not it tends to damage the story and the characters. So if I had to choose a BW mascot, it'd be Snivy, but I'd much rather there not be a mascot at all.

Unlike most of you, I actually like Oshawott.

But I don't think he's the mascot at all. I think Pikachu's still the only one.

praise the goard! anyway i dont think that oshawott is the mascot. . . yet, and i kinda a agree that oshawott is kinda of a attention hogger and can be a brat at times but is still loveable in every way. and i dont care that it dosnt evolve, i dont want that monster of a samorott replacing oshawott. either evovle once or never at all IMO.

Gotta agree. I don't care for Oshawott's personality and how its being crammed down our throats. Slightly better than Piplup but not by much. I am looking forward to Ash FINALLY having a fully evolved water starter pokemon however.

Out of Oshawott and Zorua/Zoroark, I think stay with Oshawott. I don't think it would be fair to have a Pokemon that isn't even Ash's/one of the main character's as the mascot.
As for who I think the mascot should be:
They need to find some way to make Shaymin the mascot!
I'm sort of happy with it being Oshawott, but out of the starters, I think Snivy should be the mascot, as she's got so much personality. But I'm kind of surprised that the writers didn't go with Axew, kind of like they went with Piplup in DP.

Snivy, because TCPI/Nintendo should have listened to the Smugleaf Phenomenon and not the crackpot theory that Oshawott=Piplup, just because water type+Cold Regions in real life+Starter+cute=Marketable. Real people+Real Response=non Waterspam.

The Dilbert Animated Series version of Marketing Department.=TCPI/Nintendo Marketing Department.

Yes, it's perfectly fine to advertise with the starters, I think their spotlight (not time but) develop time is more or less balanced and... well, that's all.

Right now, Oshawott's annoying me.

Of course, my choice for mascot is the giant, ice-and-dragon, people-and-Pokémon eating machine Kyurem. But for some reason, I doubt that Ash will catch him/her/it, depriving me of my dream mascot.

Otherwise, BW needs to lose the mascot-ness. I want full evolutions, balanced time, and a Haxorus in Iris' hair! Is that too much to ask for?

a Haxorus in Iris' hair
This is all I ask for.

Mascots? Fuck 'em, they're useless and only serve to take away screentime from other Pokemon who desperately need it.
Ash is enough of a mascot as it is. Put him in drag and he'll appeal to whomever is still left to drag to the dark side.

I don't exactly care about Mascots, except when they shoved forcefully into your face. Which the writers seem to like doing with Oshawott and previous mascots.
So, unless they change that aspect, yes, Mascots can go.

I believe Oshawott was constructed to be the second coming of Piplup--a water-type starter whose antics cause trouble for itself and everybody around it in an effort to provide comic relief. There have been dozens of episodes where Oshawott sent himself out of his Poke Ball just for the sake of it, but I believe this has been done excessively because the writers can no longer do this with TRio and Wobbuffet. This is a gag that the writers are reluctant in abandoning.

Ordinarily I would dislike Oshawott for butting into everybody's screentime, but I would then remember that he is the first water "starter" pokemon that Ash has caught since his Totodile. In both AG and DP, Ash's water-type pokemon would have been shafted in favor of pokemon from the other types (Sceptile and Infernape, respectively). It also was not like Totodile had a lot of screentime when it was used in Johto. I am glad that the writers had decided to show off Oshawott a little bit, even if it is too much.

I believe that there isn't just one "mascot pokemon" in BW. In fact, this series bolsters a large variety of unevolved pokemon belonging to the main characters that have been seen often: Snivy, Tepig, Scraggy, Axew, Emolga, and Pansage. Oh, and Pikachu and Meowth of course. They are more or less sharing the "mascot" title with each other. All of these but Meowth and Emolga were featured in the first ending. Pikachu, Meowth, and the three starters are seen in the second ending.

If we really want to get technical on the whole "choice for the mascot" thing, Oshawott isn't the only pokemon who has been butting in for screentime for the sake of it. Snivy and Emolga's feud has overtaken recent episodes (BW032 and BW038 being the most recent examples I can think of right now). Pansage and Tepig have also been used a lot recently. Scraggy and Axew are getting an episode of their own next month. It just depends which episodes these pokemon are being featured prominently.
