Do you care about happiness?

Considering how easy it is to raise happiness (basically just don't lose with the Pokémon and walk around with it in your party) It shouldn't really be something to conciously think about.

I do like to raise the happiness of my Pokémon because I really like the ribbon you get in the DPPt versions.

I gotta second PDL; I love the Friendship Ribbon. I love how the man tells you what your pokémon thinks. ESPECIALLY Bibarel, and other stupid pokémon. XD Freaking hilarious.

That aside, I do really care. It's really easy to raise, but I just feel better if they're happy. (It would bother me in FRLG if they didn't get really close to the screen when I gave them an item.) The only time I've ever tried to make a pokémon hate me was for the move Frustration, which isn't really worth all of the hatred you breed in a pokémon anyway, since Return (or whatever it's called) is just as nice.

When I restarted my Platinum version, I captured a Zubat back when I was passing through the cave between Jubilife and Eterna, and I named him Trepes. Usually I just stuff them in a PC, but I had picked a Piplup as my starter, and I figured having another Flying-Type besides my Starly, Rex, would be helpful against Gardenia. I trained it up a bit, and when my Rex got taken down in my Gym match, it was my little Trepes that ended up winning it for me. I ended up keeping Trepes in my party as my main Flying-Type, and it just recently evolved into a Crobat. When he evolved, I was alot happier than when any of my other Pokemon evolved, even my Piplup, because I knew that the only way Evolution was possible was because Trepes was happy. It didn't really matter that his "Happiness" was nothing more than an accumulation of points that had built up as I had performed menial tasks that I would have done anyways, like walking around and training him. My Pokemon was happy, and that made me happy.

@Rellik

Man, makes me reconsider passing over Zubats in the early game altogether. That's some hardcore patience working with one of those. Kudos!

Back to topic...yes, it does bother me when my wee critters don't like me back. I like to know that I'm at least getting their trust. Even if deep down I know it's just a single integer in the programming, it does mean something in the long haul.

Besides, getting your Pokemon knocked around enough just to use Frustration with any power seems oddly sadistic.

I refuse to see games as "just a game". To truly enjoy the full 100% experience of the game, one has to allow their mind and soul to occupy the game. You are a part of that world when you play. Would you mistreat a cat, or a dog, just because you can? No, you wouldn't, unless you were a heartless son of a bitch. These Pokemon are in your care, so you better treat them nice and good. The happiness of my Pokemon mean everything to me.

It only matters to me when I'm trying to train or breed pokemon with that evolution. If not, most times I'll avoid pokemon that evolve like that, and not even catch the starting form.

Only if the Pokèmon evolves that way.
I found some ways to increase happiness quite quickly, one thing that made me really happy is when I managed to evolve an Eevee into an Espeon at leve 2! (How? Well it wore a soothe bell, I took it to the spa and got it a massage, gave it 2-3 of each stat boosting item and leveled up, and it evolved) and the whole thing took about 10 minutes (it had to, it was about 15 minutes till the game changed to night-time.)

Yes, if the Pokémon evolves by happiness (I usually have one of those in my team), or if I've taught it TM27 Return.

yes, especially in R/S/E, in which you can get a free TM that way every week :D

I only care about happiness when the Pokémon needs it to evolve or for a move (like Return, Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon, or Draco Meteor).

Of course.

Your Pokemon are your friends; They should be happy. I have to make sure my Pokemon are at full happiness.

sometimes. If I'm just collecting a pokemon, then no. But if I'm going to use it a lot, then yes.

Usually, I only care if it's over things like a Pokemon evolving through happiness or if I have Return/Frustration as one of my moves. But having those ribbons that are a sign of a Pokemon being happy under your control is a nice thing to have.

This.

This so much.

I want all of my Pokemon to be as happy as possible.
