I'm just as excited about the release of HeartGold and SoulSilver as anyone on here, but I feel guilty because I watched a bunch of videos on YouTube and such.
I watched Gym Battles which show all the new graphics, and I listened to new theme music for legendary Pokemon and Team Rocket battles. And I even took a peek at the opening film/show thing and a walkthrough of the first 10 mins of play.

I feel REALLY guilty. I wish I could un-watch the videos...

I guess the games won't be out for a long time (a REALLY long time since I live in Australia and we're among the last to get it) so there's plenty of time to forget what I saw. I've already forgotten the theme music clips. I guess when I play them for real, it'll feel like the first time (and at least then I won't be trying to read Japanese).

So, I've made a vow; No spoilers, however small or insignificant, whatsoever. No more pictures. No more new sprite pictures. No more updates or articles on Bulbapedia. Sure it'll be tough to resist the big headline that reads "HUGE UPDATE ON HGSS! MUST READ!" Then, when I play the game, everything will be new. If I see anything on my computer screen that may lead to a spoiler, I'll look away and scroll down!

Does anyone else feel guilty about the spoilers? Is anybody gonna join me on my spoiler/HGSS update boycot? No spoilers on this thread please!

... Trust me on one thing: Looking at videos and listening to music of the game, and actually playing it for real are two completely different things.

I've been following HGSS since it was revealed on Pokémon Sunday. And before the release I watched tonnes of videos and listened to all the music. But actually doing it myself is whole different thing. Even if I have it right now, I'm still watching videos that could spoil things for me, say, Red's battle. I like watching them because its fun.

So, no. I don't feel guilty. Because I'm not disappointing myself by watching it. It just gives me joy, and even more when I do it for real myself.

A little bit. x_o But I'm still excited to explore every nook and cranny of the game. Updates will definitely not tell you everything about them.

I haven't watched too many vids. I didn't want to spoil too much, although I feel I have. I stuck around to see screens of almost every area in Johto, and some of Kanto. I was very pleased to see the great effort put into making this a great game. Does that mean I will not be able to pick up the game and go "Wow" at all the neat stuff before me? I don't remember what my reaction to playing Pearl for the first time was, but I don't think I was any less stunned by the scenery than I was when I saw screens of it. As for all the neat additions to the game, I only marked them in simplistic terms so as to not spoil the experience too much. Like, I remember that the levels have been altered, but I may not not know how much they were altered. This is a game I have already played and beaten, so there isn't much that I don't already know there. I don't think the experience will be lost for me, but I will have to wait and see.

I still won't watch any YouTube videos submitted by fans anymore, 'cause, for some reason, I feel I'm spoiling at least a BIT of the suprise...
I prefer the game to be 100% new to me, instead of around 97/98%. It has been AGES since I played Silver Version and I've totally forgotten anything to do with the plot. In fact, at the time I didn't realise you could go to the Kanto region so I missed half the game.
I'd prefer to experience all of the new theme music, sequences, opening film etc. when I'm actually in the moment for real. It's like watching 2 minutes of a film from the beginning, 2 from the middle and then 2 from nearer the end and then having to sit through the same thing in the cinemas, knowing what's coming. It may not be a MAJOR plot point, but it still ruins it a little...

Lies make Jesus cry and watching spoilers makes GameFreak cry...

I spoil every fucking game I ever see for myself. the kick is nicer when to find out before you have the game then after. The only thing I don't do is look at videos tough.

Example: The only thing from brawl I didn't spoil to myself were the trophies xD

Meh. These games were geared to be almost the same as the originals, given FR/LG's precedent. A shame, but it was bound to happen.

I always spoil myself in terms of Pokémon games. Especially in remakes, I'm better off checking out the few new things as soon as the game comes out, so maybe I have more of a desire to get the game when it's released in english. It's helped me get LeafGreen and Emerald. Somewhat Platinum (I got it mainly because Diamond/Pearl failed terribly). With HGSS, I'm not too thrilled, because I honestly expected much more. Still, it's good enough.

I don't watch gameplay videos, though. Never have. Guess that also helps keep the game kind of fresh.

Book and movie spoilers are one thing. They need to be revealed at the appropriate time in the story in order for the story to be exiting. Otherwise, the climaxes don't feel as climactic if you already know what's going to happen.

Video game spoilers are another thing entirely. Video games don't have an in depth story, because they aren't meant to be played for the story (precisely why we continue to get the same recycled plot over and over in Pokemon games). Because of that, video game spoilers are usually things along the lines of features, what characters will appear, and what items are obtainable. Unlike book and movie spoilers, these things stand on their own; you can find out about them before you get the game and still get the same feeling of excitement you would have gotten had you found out about them in the course of the game. It's just that the feeling of excitement has moved, but you still get it either way.

I've spoiled it so much. I really wanted to keep it a surprise, so I would find something new on my own. I remember when I played LeafGreen for the first time, I was incredibly surprised by the Sevii Islands.

Nope, I played these games back in 2000 so I already know what happened.

Some of the new story elements are nice, but they're not really that big a deal. Its not as if the Pokemon games ever had much of a plot and most of the new features are from Platinum or the other games.

Hmmm kinda.
At first it got me extremely excited, but now I'm worried I might spoil it so I'm not gonna spend as much time following the news as I used to

Plot-wise, I haven't spoiled it for myself since I've played Crystal many times since it's release 8/9 years ago.
I do feel that I have spoiled the gameplay for myself a little bit though. I've been listening to all the new music and I have watched a few minutes of gameplay. But because I want these games to feel really fresh when they come out in 7 months (ugh), then I'll try to control myself and avoid looking at anything more.

I've been watching the intro over and over though; I can't help it, it looks so amazing. ;_;

They're remakes. Enhanced remakes. And I'm not sorry to know everything about them. I always do this with games. Knowing and playing are two different things. I'm not a fan of video game videos on youtube and whatnot (unless they're narrated) but once I get feeling, I get absorbed into the game.

So, no, I'm not sorry. Because I know I'll love every moment that I play. I spoiler the Special for myself on accident and still loved it.

Now, if I were to spoil a book for myself, or a TV show... that's different.

Ohh I hate it when gameplay videos are narrated, because most that I've seen the person has an awful voice and they almost always seem to talk about things in the video that I can just figure out on my own.
I do recall seeing a few that were good, but they're so rare.

well, voice is always something I look for too, but I usually get lucky.

I think in this case, no. But if this was a new Gen, I'd probably would feel spoiled. I mean when it came to the 4th gen I think the only think I spoiled myself were the Pokemon (it was too hard to keep it a surprise), even the English names were difficult to wait for.

But the actual storyline/features of the a new gen, I'd probably like to wait for, but if I get spoiled anyway then oh well, maybe there's something surprising in the game anyway.

But HGSS? No, I might be disappointed when I play it because there's nothing new that's going to jump at me, but I think it's added features may make up for that. Like the Pokemon following you for example. The New PC features, so we'll have to see, but I think I'll be okay.

Not at all. Sure I'll be going through it knowing what to expect but playing will be my main happiness.

Video games don't have an in depth story.

Metal Gear Solid 4 might want to have a talk with you.

On my personal ccount, I don't feel spoiled. I haven't seen any videos except from the few seconds shown every now and then on Sunday, but other than that, it will still be new to me. Sure, I know that Bugsy's Gym now looks like a Spinarak, but I haven't played the actual puzzle, so I don't know how it will feel to actyually be there and play it. Thus, I'm not spoiling anything to myself.

Besides, as almost every one already said, this is a remake from a 10 year old game, so we all know what happens. We've been knowing for a decade. When a whole new game (i.e. Gen V first paired versions) come out, then it would be spoilers, but for HGSS, not at all.

Considering I've played the Johto games all very recently, AND that I'm playing through the Japanese version of SoulSilver right now, no I don't feel spoiled.

But then again, I love reading spoilers, and knowing exactly what happens in books/movies/games.
