Do you find it odd the Magikarp salesman only appeared once in DP?

What happened to this running gag? As well all know, the Magikarp salesman was originally introduced in the classic, "Battle aboard the St. Anne" episode, where he sells James the Magikarp that eventually becomes the Gyarados.

He then appears in 3 different Johto episodes. He then also appears in 3 Hoenn episodes. He later on sells James a Hopip disguised as Chimecho in Hoenn, and a Magikarp disguised as a Feebas.

Yet in DP, he only appeared once. He appeared early on in that "The Strongest Magikarp" filler at the very beginning of DP.

Why did the Magikarp salesman get 3 eps in Johto, and 3 eps in Hoenn, yet only 1 in DP? Have the writers decided to finally phase him out?

I am just glad that they kept him in at all. They could have left him out, since they made so many changes so far.

I almost forgot, the Magikarp salesman was also in one of the Chronicles/special episodes, he appeared in one of the Oak/Delia/Tracey specials briefly and tried to sell Oak a Magikarp.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read this thread's title was,

"He appeared in D&P?"

Seriously, I don't remember that happening at all. Maybe they are phasing him out...

Clearly he's meant to be the final boss that commands a legendary Pokemon.

If I had an answer for you, I would certainly give one.

Maybe. Why does it matter? He may be a recurring character but he was never a major character in the first place.

He appeared in "Ya See We Want an Evolution" (the episode about the strongest Magikark and most beautiful Feebas).

Not really... I was more surprised he appeared in DP at all. Seeing how they even bother to still slip him into these cameos even for 1 episode, I'm sure he'll likely to show up for his cameos in the future. So no, doubt they'll really phasing him out. I actually thought it was irrelevant for him to appear 3 times in Johto and Hoenn. Looks like they fixed it in DP.

I sometimes feel as if DP is phasing out most of the elements from Kanto. This is all the first generation where Jigglypuff didn't appear at all.

As well as the first generation Ash might not use Bulba/Squirtle/Charizard.

The DP saga is weird in that way. It sometimes references things that happened a billion years ago yet its phased out other elements almost entirely.

What ? Did you finally hit the bottom of the useless topic thread starters ? Not yet Scott... just a few more months until BW start, then you'll have new material...

On topic. No. On Jigglypuff and the Kanto starters... Fuck yeah, they're not used and it's great !

Jigglypuff's story was wrapped up in Hoenn. No reason to bring it back anymore.

What makes you say that? And even then, why is it a big deal? Ash can just give other Pokemon a chance to shine and give those three a break.

Merely a coincidence. OI, Johto, AG didn't reference Butterfree, but that doesn't mean it was forgotten at the time and remembered later. Same goes for anything in the past that hasn't been reminded in DP. Not every single past event has to be referenced in every saga.

He was funny and all, but it doesn't really seem weird to me. Either way, I'm sure he'll turn up in either Isshu or for a brief cameo in Sinnoh.

They must have gotten bored with him or simply forgotten or got over the humour of the gag.

Man Cyber this is like wtf, i cracked myself laughing(really him crying) when i saw the thread title while laughing i knew it was you who made the topic just had to check to confirm hahaha.

Anyway who cares haha.

I didn't find it odd nor cared that he appeared in DP once.

He appeared once in Kanto too.

He didn't appear in the Orange Islands if I recall correctly.

It's just goes to show that the anime does not need recurring characters to keep it going.

I found it a bit odd. Maybe it's because everyone was tired of seeing the salesman ripping off other people all the time.
