I’m talking about all of the missed opportunities where Ash and his friends do not catch a wild Pokemon in an episode. Here are some examples from recent episodes;

• In BW so far there have been a lot of these missed chances like when Iris’ Excadrill beat Scolipede (despite the fact that it got sent flying with Drill Run it would have been a nice and powerful addition to her team)

• A couple of episodes ago, when Ash and Dento went with Bianca and found a wild Scolipede and Galvantula

• Numerous other chances where Ash or someone would befriend a wild Pokemon and either save them and or train them for something but then at the end of the episode just leave them be

• Don’t get even get me started with legendaries…

I know the theme of the show isn’t “Gotta Catch Em’ All” anymore but still they just let powerful and rare Pokemon just slip out of their hands all the time at it’s a bit annoying.

Do any of you remember moments like that and how do you feel about the main characters and the Pokémon they catch or don’t catch?

I don't particularly care. I'm used to Ash catching pathetic basic common Pokemon anyway.

Lol....Here is a tale from my past (old early Kanto days)

"WHAT?!? Why didn't Ash catch the Aerodactyl!!! It's such an awesome Pokemon!!!"
"Come on Ash!!! You should catch that Nidoran!!"
"AAAAsSSSH!!! Catch Jigglypuff!!!"
"Why didn't Ash catch the Cleffairy?"
"Ash! Catch the Spearow, the SPEAROW!!"
"Ash catch the Tentacruel!! DX"
"Ash!! DON'T catch the Gyarados!! It'll eat you :<"

Funny now in Best Wishes....

Ugh. I don't want Ash to catch that thing.

DEEENNTTOOO catch the Purrloin!~

It just sucks when he catches things like Sewaddle, but then doesn't catch things that could make for much more interesting team members.

Re: Do you get mad when Ash and crew DON’T catch a wild Pokemon?

I don't get this question. Ash catches Pokemon from the wild mostly and so does any character. If you meant they should catch every Pokemon they see that would get out of control. Already the Pokemon on Ash's team have less screentime to begin with. I think its better this way.

Re: Do you get mad when Ash and crew DON’T catch a wild Pokemon?

I don't care too much, however there are some pokemon I feel he should have captured because he bonded with it.

Like I wanted Ash to get one of the candles in the BW ep, but oh well.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about how he sticks to mostly 1st stage Pokemon most likely for promotional reasons.

I'm just pissed that Sunglasses Krokorok isn't on his team yet. That badass croc would be so much more awesome on the team than Scraggy is!

100% agree with you there I think that eventually he'll catch it...at least I hope so. Scraggy hasn't done that much at all yet and with Axew mastering Dragon Rage there "rivalry" has taken a huge one-sided turn come on now I want to see Scraggy try to block that blue energy dragon with its "pants" lol

I know what you meant at least at the start of the Orange Island saga, he attempted to catch the evolved Spearow from episode 1, but he failed though he should have went after it until he caught it on Pidgeot. I know what you feel like in BW, he like in almost any other season catches the wrong Pokemon in my opinion.

He didn't get that Clefairy because Seymour the Scientist asked him not to but come on it was a rare Pokemon that was "holding" a Moon Stone I don't care what you say I'm catching that thing!

About Gyrados, I always think about the first episode after Pikachu is injured and with Ash they fall into the water to escape the Spearow flock and Ash quickly avoids a Gyrados as it swims by. I always imagined what it would have been like if he threw a Pokeball at it and caught it. That would have been epic and on his first day of being a trainer too lol

I mean that Ash and friends let go certain Pokemon they meet in the wild, I'm not saying that they don't catch wild Pokemon but when you think about it most of them just agree to go along with them. I know what you mean when it comes to screen time as well.

XDD I wanted him to catch EVERYTHING when I was younger. I think a lot of that went into Johto as well XD

(I didn't care. He should have caught it :p) Also he tried to catch one in that other one called Clefairy Tales with the weirdo scientist XD

:< Gyarados scared me when I was younger...(that would have been funny. I'd betcha 2 dollars it wouldn't listen to him)

Exactly. I'm more likely to get mad because he caught something boring, bland and/or unnecessary, like Kurumiru, rather than because he didn't catch something. To me, I don't care if Satoshi doesn't catch legendaries or really rare pokémon, since they would make things way too easy for him, therefore no struggle and therefore boring storylines. If he's got a team of entertaining and interesting pokémon and doesn't catch something, I'm cool with it, but when his team is bland and he meets a really funny or interesting pokémon and doesn't catch it... yeah, I'm less than impressed. A good example was Archen. I feel the writers shouldn't have evolved it and should've had Ash catch it instead of giving him Hatoboh and Dangoro.

Plus, the less pokémon, the more screentime each pokémon gets so I'm really not mad he's not catching tons of pokes if it means the ones he has get more screen time and appear more likeable.

Yeah, I think the better question here is "do you get mad when Ash and crew catch a particular Pokemon you DON'T want them to have?", because that really applies to BW like crazy.

There were a lot of excellent Pokemon Ash bonded with that might've made great (or at least interesting) teammates in the past, such as Larvitar and Hippopotas (or May with Swablu, etc), but I never really threw a fit over Ash and co. passing up on some interesting prospective Pokemon choices. Ash's team always had sort of a formula from the beginning, so I never bothered getting my hopes up that much.

Yeah, I get mad when Ash doesn't catch Pokemon that are actually interesting. Ash's team right now is like the epitome of boring. I really don't understand why the writers feel like Ash has to have the regional bird, and Fire/Grass/Water, and some other random type. They need to be more creative in how they make Ash's teams, so it's not as predictable, and his battles won't be so boring.

I guess it's nice that he's catching more than just six this time around, but he's been getting the same types.... The only "extra" Pokemon he's caught that is a type he's never had before was Roggenrola. I don't understand what is so bad about letting Ash have different types on his team, but whatever. Maybe there's a reason for that.

Funny enough, my favorite Pokemon are mostly from the main characters, due their personality, battle style etc. so I don't mind actually.

I definatly thought Ash was gonna catch sunglasses sandile when it challenged him. I can't remember many more off the top of my head, maybe I thought he would catch the trubish but not sure.

You know what's funny? Back in those days Gyarados was one of the things Misty was afraid of because of that childhood experience when she was almost eaten by one. Whenever she mentioned that bike or something that made Ash mad he could have sent it out and scared her to death.

Sort of like how Ash should bring back Glalie to scare the piss out of Iris when she pulls the annoying "You're such a kid!" card.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't listen to him either.

I don't get mad or upset with the show.
Letting one get away is such a common practice that, even now that he's catching more, I still get surprised every time he does. Either way, I like what he has now.

Nah, but only because I've come to expect that such formulaic Pokemon choices (starters, regional bird, cute marketable things) will end up making the bulk of Ash's team anyway. Unless he was somehow catching a cool Pokemon instead of a bog standard, otherwise I don't think really matters.
As for his companions, they tend not to get many opportunities anyway.
Though I would have thrown a fit if Dento didn't catch Maggyo after annihilating it with his Fishing Rod-Fu...

Ash picks basic Pokemon, why cant he catch something good like Derpfish or a psuedo-legendary OR EVEN A FREAKING GOOD POKEMON THAT ACTUALLY HAS ANY MEANING?!

Anyway, I go in -rage- when there is a perfectly awesome Pokemon in front of him and he just makes it faint or runs like a pussy wuss.

It depends on the pokemon, but I don't like seeing Ash releasing his most powerful pokes.

For example, some of his Kanto pokes that aren't even with Oak: Charizard, Squirtle, Pidgeot etc etc...

I know some of them can come back and battle again, but personally, after all the time and training he went through, one tear-jerking episode and he releases them.

I found it frustrating :(
