Within the last few years, I've picked up the (sometimes expensive) habit of going around to anime conventions in my area. I have to say, depending on where you go, they can be incredibly fun. Basically I was wondering if anyone else has shared in this pasttime.

Well, I never have been to one, but I probably would if given the opprotunity. I don't live where any of these things ever happen though.

I would probably like to. But like GSC said, these events don't usually occur by me as far as I know.

I've been to two so far, and I'm going to my new one in August :3

Cain~

Never a specific anime convention, but I grew up going to Science Fiction conventions, and they tend to have a lot of anime going on. I would like to make it out to one someday though.

Where I live, there's a fan organization for anime fans that organizes anime conventions on school holidays. It's about as professional as it sounds and about as fun as a root canal. Seriously. Overpriced manga, very few panels that are all incredibly boring and amateurish, too many people in a <i>very</i> small space and nothing much to do because all your friends are volunteering or jetting around.

I vowed never to go to an anime convention in this country again because I'll never have fun there, simple as that. Hopefully, I'll get to go to a proper anime convention in North America with a group of friends. I know I'll have a better chance of having fun then.

Went to Otakon last year, going again this year.

I've only been to one, which I didn't care for it much. I would only go to another one if there was a guest that I wanted to meet. ^^;

I used to go to some back when I was in high school, but by the time I got to college anime fans / goods were so much easier to come by than they were before that I really didn't feel the need to go to them anymore.

Plus, I hear that anime conventions these days are more like Internet meme conventions and are attended by people who obviously spend all their time in front of their computers. Hanging out with those type of people doesn't even seem the least bit appealing, so I really doubt I'll be heading to another convention anytime soon.

I dunno about "Internet Meme Convention", but "free glomping", fat naruto cosplayers, and badly drawn hentai never sounded like my cup of tea.

I've been to Anime Expo (2006) and enjoyed the atmosphere of the
convention area when it wasn't too terribly crowded. Although after
a while, body odors would meld and room temperature would only exacerbate
that problem.

Sausage fest, yeah, it sucks.

I go to cons all the time! I have four of them this year, and one of them was this past weekend (Otafest in Calgary). ChibiChibiCon was in February, then Anime Evolution and Kumoricon are both in August.

I usually work at them, in a dedicated fanwork room that's unique to this region's cons (well...the four I mentioned. We used to go to Sakura Con in Seattle, but there's been some "unpleasantness" to put it mildly). I've been on the Fanfic 101/102 panels for several years running now, and at CCcon and Otafest I did Supporting Characters in Fanfiction (cohosted at CC, ran solo at Ota). Because heavens know I write enough of them.

I'm planning to. Cosplaying as Ed!

Come to think of it, there was actually one around here not long ago. And I want to nail myself in the head with my iron lamp because a friend that DID go there said that they actually had some of the VA's from different animes there and that Vic Mignoga was one of them. But I don't know if they were talking crap or being truthful.

There are no anime cons near my house so I've never been to one. I've been to comic cons though. Although that was over five years ago.

I've been going to Tekkoshocon (local con in Pittsburgh) for three years now. And it is still good.

Surprisingly, I've been somewhat of a fan of a couple anime series for several years now and not once had been to a convention, or even special events that were like anime conventions. But then, being from a fairly small town and hearing what other types of conventions (namely ones for sci-fi series like Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, etc./not that I'm a fan of those series <rolls eyes scacastically>, oh no) are supposed to be like, I probably couldn't handle one anyways.

I went to a comic convention that happened to have a few anime booths, but I have never been to a convention CENTERED on anime. Maybe someday, but after hearing so many scary stories (people not showering? Ewww!), maybe not.
