We all have rivals in the pokémon games, but does anyone have a rival in real life too?

I have one. I've known him since elementary school, but the rivalry began when we went to high school. It all began when I was put in HAVO and he was put in VBMO, which is technically seeing a 'lower' education than mine. He hated me for that and now every time we meet, he will always talk about the high grades he gets and will then ask me how my grades are. The funny thing is that most of the time my grades are higher and then he will give a look of death and walk away again xD.

And now we are both doing college (at the same school. Hell, we even work at the same place, the guy's everywhere) and things never changed; he's still boasting about his school grades which makes me want to get even higher grades.

It really looks like the rivalry between Ash and Gary, with him being Gary (arrogant and always that triumphant look on his face when he tells me about all the great things he did) and me being Ash (wanting to do even greater things).

Hell yes. We've been together from third grade to college. he's one of my best friends, and we're always in a love-hate relationship.

This rival is what drives me to work as hard as possible.

Most Definitely. It started freshman year (two years ago), everyone in my apartment played Super Smash Brothers Melee. Everyone else was Ok, but me and one other kid were above average. We always had really intense battles. It would almost always go to each of us having one life, and when that happens we would both retreat to opposite ends of the map and do a taunt, which would be our salute. The most epic battles were Marth vs. Roy on final destination. This rivalry lasted though freshman year and sophomore year, converting to Brawl when it came out. Unfortunately I fell horribly out of practice and he only fell slightly out of practice, so he wrecks me now. Tony Smugs is his name. His last name isn't really "Smugs," but that's what I call him.

There was also this other kid who always played as Yoshi, and we would both just gang up on him and get him out so we could have a serious fight.

My Rival has been with me since preschool. He always gets the best grades in the class, and he gloats about it. The only thing I have over him is popularity and friends I guess. Man I hate him.

hehehe, I'm Gymnasium so I'd beat both you and your rival Maze... Nah enough joking. I don't have a rival. Sure there is always some rivalry with my friends who gets higher grades on tests, but that's not that big (mostly on latin, but I always get higher grades for latin then my friend, so not much competition there).

So I don't have a rival, but I also don't need one. I do things well for myself, and not because I want to be better then someone else.

I do infact have a rival. I've known him since I was 11, which is when I was starting high school.
This guy is actually the reason I face so much misery at school. You see, I believe this guy is jealous of me, as this guy likes to be better than everyone else.
His problem is with me. I am one of the smartest people in my year (called grades everywhere else).
Because of this, he seems determined to do anything he can to make my life a misery. Am I talking to a new person? He'll spread rumors and make sure they reach that person. Am I talking to my old friend? He'll make sure that friend doesn't like me anymore. Are things going well for me? He'll make sure everything crumbles.

To put it bluntly, I'm hated by him and I hate him.

Yeah all my life I had new rivals each time I move up a grade:

There's a new student(a boy most of the time),I become friends with him and then there's a rumor that we like each other so we start fighting to show it's not true but it never works..

But when there's no new student,I fight with my main rival,Jerry (go to 'School' album to see how he looks)

There was one person who I actually though was going to be my rival in college. He had the same major as I did, and we both did fencing and we both started kendo at the same time. Unfortunately he failed a couple of classes and he stopped coming to kendo class after about a semester, so it didn't end up being much of a rivalry. I really wish I did have a kendo rival.

I had a few rivals in elementary school because we all vied for the title of valedictorian. However except for one of them, we got along just fine and when I eventually won I think they were all genuinely happy for me. In any case, right now my only rival is Barack Obama. The bastard became the first minority president before me.

I dont think so... I dont really try to beat anyone out, I just do my best in school and stuff and see how far I can go. I dont really care if someone ends up beating me.

Like in MUN, last year I was ranked 1st place (of 62!), but this year, I dont really care if other people do better in conferences than me. I'll still try hard, but being frist isnt a big deal to me.

But my BFF has a grudge against another girl in the MUN class, so she wants me to still beat her XD

I do, he's my cousin-in-law. He's smarter in many subjects, but lacks common sense (opposite for me XP). The rivarly has been going on for a few years, but it's just a bragging thing really. XD

Nope not really, if I did I forgot about them and moved on, I have more important things to do then compete with someone for somethng stupid.

Anyone who is not excellent is my rival. As such an excellent member I only allow other excellent members to acquaint with me.

Not really. The closest "rivalry" I've had is with one of my good friends but it was more of a friendly-type thing. We tried to one-up each other sometimes, but we don't hate each other or anything.

I guess I do... *coughs* More like a mortal enemy though.

Eh... sort of.

We're the two smartest kids in our high school class. His class rank is two (second to a workaholic, of course), and mine is in the thirties. However, my standardized test scores are the best in the school and he knows I'm virtually as smart as him.

Basically, we're not really rivals, but we're polar ends of the political spectrum and have our differences. At the same time, we respect the other. Oh, and we're friends. So it's complicated.
