As you know, most of us are old teenagers or young adults (like me). As you know too, people who don't watch (and don't like) pokemon enjoy to mock us, and they would call us "brats".
So i was wondering: do you hide your passion from your friends/girl-boyfriend/family?

Personnally, i didn't tell anyone i was watching the show, even if i'm not ashamed at all!! (no one should be)

Most of you live in the USA, and i don't know if people would mock you there. As for me, in France, i know that i would be finger pointed because of my passion.

So, what's your attitude?

PS: sorry if this thread has already been discussed

I don't actively hide it or anything, but I won't mention my love for the franchise unless it would serve a purpose in a conversation.

Unless we're talking about my nuclear family, in which case I'll flaunt it in a self-deprecating way if the situation calls for it. XD

I don't really hide it, im my free times during college, I play my pokemon games on my DS and quite a few people see me and I heard a few people laughing at me, but I don't really care.

I used to hide it. I didn't tell anyone, because in high school you can get ostracized for that kind of thing. I had enough trouble fitting in and I didn't want word to get around that I was a pokemon nerd. xD

I don't really hide it at all anymore, though. When I got to college, Diamond and Pearl came out my freshman year and actually a lot of people my age started getting back into pokemon. I'm dating a guy now who pokes fun at me from time to time for it, but he says it's kind of cute.

Also, I'm not so concerned about what other people think about my pokemon habits anymore. So no, I don't hide it at all now.

Well, my parents have never liked my passion for Pokemon. Or for anything else. They say, at my age, I should be into more adult stuff now. Like clothes, and such. Although that's what they used to say when I was 8 or 9 and first started watching the show. So I try to do my best to hide it from them. Although I do want to buy some Pokemon themed ornaments for my desk at work. Anyone got any sites where I could find such things? Pencils, pens, staplers, pencil cups, letter openers, etc. Even just ornaments for decor? Ironic, I can be more myself with my coworkers than my parents.

I don't think I should be ashamed of what I can like, so no, I don't :)

Actually it's quite paradoxal. We're not ashamed, but if people know, you're getting "ostracized" like Evil Raichu said.
But i think people won't mock you that much if you play the video game, but more if they know you watch the anime.

I tell people. often. :D

I dont care what they say about m e. like a video game describes wat kind of person i am

I don't really hide it, but I'm sure my parents probably think I shouldn't be into it again (I'm 18). The games are fun to play, and I'd watch the anime again, but I've missed so much that I don't want to randomly jump back into it.

At this point, why would it matter?

I may buy games and watch anime, but people don't care too much for it. I also don't go on about it 24/7 as well.

I don't randomly tell people 'hey, I [heart] the Poegymonz', but, I don't try to hide the fact that I like Pokemon. I'm not ashamed or anything, if that's the point of the question.

none of us is ashamed, i guess. But you could hide it from your friends because you'd be pissed off about their constant jokes, not because you're ashamed

Hell no! Everyone knows it and I wear it proudly. Literally. . I have a Pokemon jacket I always wear! =] (I wash it. . -_-)

Not only that, but I also wear a Pokemon shirt, and, if I ever go swimming, I bring my Pokemon towel! XD You might say I have an obsession.

I also talk about Pokemon to everyone, no matter what anyone else says. It's usually along the lines of 'you like Pokemon!?' or 'you are NOT talking about Pokemon'. I just smile at them.

you're right to be proud of your passion!
But are you "discrimined" for that? I mean, do people treat you like a nerd ?(no offense, you're not one)

Some people treat me like a nerd, but I don't mind. Hey, I agree with them! XD Even then, I wouldn't say I'm discriminated against. People love me for me, including my love of Pokemon. After all, it's what makes me 'me' and my friends, and even people I hardly know, wouldn't have it any other way.

Where I live, people that are close to you usually support the things you like because that's the way our little society works. Now, if I moved into the city, I'd probably get beat up, but that's whole different story for a whole different thread. XD

your little society seems nice! In the big cities, you're constantly judged

Yeah, that's why I'd never move to the city. I'd be the freak, I can just see it coming. -_-

Not only that, but there's too much violence. Overabundance of stupid people, what are ya gunna do?

nothing i guess. You're so right about the overabundance of stupid and violent people. Maybe i'll move to the country when retired (will pokemon still be broadcasted?)
