I've seen a lot of Pokemon fans hating on Dragonite, particularly his design. Do you think it's justified? Personally, I like Dragonite just fine, but I prefer how Dratini and Dragonair looked.

When factoring in your descision, please think design only. I know he's outclassed by Salamence and others.

Design wise he's Dragonite, sure his previous evo's looked maybe a bit 'better' but I think I like his better just cause he has legs, and wings and actually looks like a DRAGON. And off-topic game wise, he WAS a generation one pokemon, so I think he's pretty cool for his kind.

I do like Dragonnite but it just dosn't look like it comes from the same family, Dratini and Dragonair look amazing but when you compare their evolutions it just dosn't seem right.

Other than the fact it learns moves by Level-Up that I could only dream that Salamence could by the same method, Dragonite doesn't do too much for me. If it wasn't for the fact I have to breed most of it's moves onto Salamence such as Dragon Dance and Dragon Rush, then Salamence would be the obviously better of the two.

The one thing that I cold never understand was it's pre-evolutions looking like skinny snakes where Dragonite is a fat dragon that looks nothing like it save for a "cute and cuddly" look to it. If it had better STAB than the set damage Dragon Rage as early as Gen I, then NOTHING in OU would stand up to it since it could hit every Pokemon for Neutral damage and severly injure other Dragonite that try to stop it.

And I'm not sure why people say Dragonite looks like a typical Dragon, since Salamence fits the description a whole lot better. Not only that, even if it isn't Dragon typed, CHARIZARD even fits the description I think of a whole lot better. To a lesser extent there's Gyarados and Aerodactyl which better fit the ideas of what kind of Dragon they look like, where Dragonite just looks like a cute and cuddly Dragon you've probably never even seen before. One thing if for sure, it's current design of the wings are too small. Years ago it was WAY better though, since sometimes it's wings would be a lot larger than they are today.

Edit: Just now realized mention design only on the first post. I atleast wanted to point out difference in Level-Up movepool, since Dragonite's is a lot better than Salamence's Level-Up movepool, learning gems like Dragon Dance and Dragon Rush where Salamence has to breed those moves onto it. I don't like having to breed for moves like that.

Well, Scizor looks nothing like Scyther yet everyone loves him. If you showed someone who only played Gen1 a picture of Scizor I'm pretty sure he wouldn't make the connection between the two.
The same goes for Gloom-Bellossom, Flaaffy-Ampharos and Clamperl-Huntail just to name a few.

i love dragonite... one of the cutest dragon pokemon ever

i used him in almost every game (blue/gold/fire red/soul silver)
and i dont see how people hate him
i think its just a too be diferent and hate the pokemon thats ment to be loved thing... then again im personally not too keen on salamance, i sware that thing just dies every time i use it =P

I hate that ugly Barney dragon. D8; It's so ugly! Why did it have to evolve from the beautiful Dragonair?! I'd take Salamence and Altaria any day over that.

Maybe because Scizor looks incredibly cool and badass, whereas Dragonite is "super cute and goofy". D8 At least, for me.

Dragonite is AAAAAWESOOOOME!!!

Seriously. Cute, cuddly, nice colouring scheme, awesome moveset... Wow.

Take a look at its shiny form: it's green.

I also find that Dragonite looks NOTHING like its pre-evolutions. Its nowhere near any of their color schemes or body shapes. Its as if the producers just threw Dragonite into any ol' Dragon-Type Evolution Scheme :p

I prefer its pre-evos really. That said, I don't like Dragonair that much either. Dragonite doesn't look cool. Just goofy. And while thats fine, I just prefer the cooler dragons like Salamence.

I like Dragonite, but not as much as Garchomp.

Dragonite > Salamence > Garchomp

Dragonite is the real dragon up in this b*tch.

People please, look at Magikarp and Gyrados they have only a couple of things in common and one of them is the "whiskers" on the side of their face. You would never expect that they were in the same evolution line based on looks alone.

To me its like Dragonite's pre-evolutions are like "cacoons" I mean they have Shed Skin so its like Dragonair sheds its snake-like exterior to emerge as a "butterfly" being a dragon in this case.

What I don't like about it is how the show and bios on the dragon tell how it is extremely agile and fast, but in the games its Speed is its lowest stats not to mention a huge handicap in battle. However, its Attack is incredible!

We don't need threads praising individual pokemon or hating on individual pokemon or anything similar to that.
