Did you prefer it when Ash caught all the region's starter Pokemon? Or do you like it more now when he catches a wider variety of Pokemon?

Personally I'm pretty indifferent the starters were always cool so him having them was as well. On the other hand now his team is open to a much wider variety of them making his team more interesting. Its a difficult one.

What do you think?

I think I prefer it when he doesn't get all of the starters. Ash having all of the starters was (IMO) the main "problem" with Johto. All of the focus was on Ash, and very little on Misty and Brock, who didn't have starters. It meant very little character development (wow, I think I'm starting to sound like Scott!)

I liked it in Kanto, but when they did it in Johto a second time, ugh no, I'm glad they stopped doing that. Another great thing they started with AG was splitting the starters among the main characters so Ash can get different Pokemon.

May worked great with Combusken and I'm glad she got Torchic instead of Ash. Same with Hikari and Pochama.

Now, one mistake the made in AG was giving Brock Mudkip, who pretty much did nothing but the occasional Water Gun. When you compare Ash's Sceptile and May's Blaziken at the end of AG to Brock's Marshtompt, you can't help but pity it. Thank god they gave Shinji the third starter this time and didn't give it to Brock. Its much better off.

I find it amusing that people complain when the anime does the same thing over and over, yet when they actually CHANGE something, (by not giving Ash all the starters), people complain anyway.

AG introduced many improvements to the series which D/P continues by having a female lead, splitting the starters among the main characters, having Pokemon that actually evolve, and Ash actually doing some training for once.

Ash getting all the starters in Kanto was fine, in Johto it was kinda boring, which is why they changed it after that. It was one of the best changes the writers made at the beginning of AG, amongst other things.

It worked for Kanto and wasn't too bad in Johto (who the starters went to was the least of the saga's problems), which is why I voted yes although I wish there were more options to choose. Hoenn did it almost right... I wish Ash captured Mudkip, but it wouldn't have made much sense.

The idea of having Hikozaru with Shinji is a fairly good one. But then it might get a bit of a negative stigma around it as such. I hope it turns out as cool as Gary's Blastoise though.

I'd be happier with the new setup if they didn't continuously give Ash the grass starter. He better not have the grass one again for Gen V.

It's unlikely he will. Gen III gave May the fire starter, and Gen IV gave Hikari the water starter. Gen V should give the new person the grass starter.

Corphish and Torkoal just had...lovable qualities.

But I to like the split of the Starters, gave each more time to shine.

How are Corphish and Torkoal more variety than Totodile and Cyndaquil?

Corphish didn't use the boring and overused Water Gun. Crabhammer and Bubblebeam were a vast improvement, and it had one of the best personalities of Ash's Pokemon.

Torkoal was underused, but at least it had no evolutions.

You're right though, even though they stopped giving him all the starters, they really need to break free of giving him the same grass/fire/water/flying types he has every region.

Here's hoping he doesn't get a fire or water type in Shinou. Give him new types, please.

I think the fact that he already has his standard Flying-type and Grass starter makes hopes for that pretty damn dim.

Let's see, there have been some surprises in terms of Pokemon this season.

Pachirisu is on the group, it took them over 450+ episodes but we finally have another electric type with a main character.

Bonsly, a D/P Pokemon, evolves into Sudowoodo at the very beginning of D/P, thus taking away its advert status.

Who knows really. Let's see what they do.

Yeah, since Greggle was caught by Brock I don't know what to think, of Hikari getting an Electric type, and Mukkuru evolving so darn early...

That being said, I hope if Ash does get a water he gets Karanakushi.

i think it was good because the main focus is ash, and it doesn't matter if both hikari and ash have a pochama because then the pokemon would love eachother and make bad eggs for brock to feed to everyone jk

anyways, the sub trainer could get 1 starter, but give ash the other two, i honestly think that ash would be great with two monkey pokemon( hed need a new hat though hehe)

that's a tough one for me l like it when ash catches all the starters but I can see the appeal of him catching more none starters but at the end of the day I think the main thing is how much focus they get combined with a great personality
