Best Wishes! has brought about many changes to the anime. One of the ones that stick out the most is the change in the Rockets' characters. Instead of being the goofy comic relief villains, they're taking on a more serious personality and attempting to be more of a threat.

Do you like this change in their character, or do you think the writers and producers have completely ruined them? Please explain why or why not.

I like the change. In my opinion, Team Rocket got really old really fast. It seemed that the sole reason they appeared in many episodes was to add a few extra minutes. In BW, Team Rocket is adding to the plot, not just fluffing it up so the episodes last long enough. Their character transformation is also interesting. They are now competent bad guys. They are more interesting now. So anyways, I think they have been improved.

I like them better in BW.
When I was watching D&P, I got tired of watching them showing up in every episode and doing the exact same thing with different Pokémon...
And come on, their badass now!

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

I like it. I think it's nice not having them in every single episode. Also, the blast-offs are so old, I'm glad that they're gone.
Whenever I watch older episodes, I find it a bit annoying that they show up in every episode.

i like the pre-BW
Some Episodes They Made The Story Good
Some Episodes They Were A Waste Of Time

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

I'm liking their role so far. As someone who's watched the show for so long, it is really amazing to see how far they have gotten and how much more cohesive all three are. Not to mention it seems as though the organization finally respects them, including the Boss.

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

I enjoy the change in Team Rocket's competency because it shows growth in Jessie's, James's, and Meowth's characters. However, I would sometimes get bored of their short scenes earlier in BW, but now that those have seemed to stop, I'm fine with them.

What I like the most now is that they seem to have retained their pre-BW personalities while still remaining competent as opposed to early BW where they acted slightly robotic. In addition, the TRio pose a real threat now that the entire organization seems to have been resurrected after about eight(?) years of inactivity.

I'm excited for what the writers have in store regarding the Team Rocket vs. Team Plasma subplot and cannot wait to see the skipped meteorite arc along with future villainous arcs. Because of improved writing and animation, not only are the Rockets more of a threat, they're also visually appealing when it comes to action.

It's a nice change so far. Don't get me wrong, I liked the old, goofy TR... but even I was surprised when they got serious. It was a pretty welcome change after many years of more or less the same thing over and over again (even though Jessie eventually started competing in Contests).

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

I've gone over why I hate the BW trio more times than I can count. Lack of anything resembling a personality, too many out-of-character moments to count, absolutely zero transition to their new roles, etc. etc.

Now don't get me wrong. I don't mind them getting a promotion. I don't mind them having more contact with Sakaki. I don't mind them not blasting off anymore (though the jetpacks are becoming just a ridiculous). I don't mind them not appearing in every episode. I don't mind the Rocket-Dan, as an organization, getting more of an active role in the series.

But none of any of what I just listed requires the trio to act like lobotomy patients in the process. They can be successful and still have all the qualities that made them loveable in the past. They can operate complex machinery and still be goofy. It's not an either / or situation.

As far as I'm concerned, the treatment of the Rocket trio in Best Wishes! is the single biggest mistake the writers have ever made. I wish they had just written them out of the show at the end of Diamond & Pearl.

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

Black & White brought a new, a bit more seriously taken role for Team Rocket. In the past, Team Rocket was in almost every episode. Now they can come in for a short cameo that episode to show us the next step in their job's procedure. In some episodes they don't appear at all and their lack of appearance has caused me to not care for them. I enjoy Black and White without Team Rocket in mind. Reading a couple of these posts, there are many points that I've come to agree with as well disagree. While it's a great turn to have the comic relief take a serious role, it was sudden and after what happened in the past to Team Rocket, I shake my head.

They changed, just like that. Suddenly it seems that Jessie and James are quite the members in Team Rocket. They have been fired before may I remind you. Then they encounter constant financial troubles that lead to empty stomachs as well complaints at each other's working abilities. Boss hates their T.R. opening. It is a surprise that they are still working despite their questionable debt. Next to that is they had an immediate character change. They done small changes in movies, but then you could tell that they were still the people they are. Out of nowhere they are suddenly taking their jobs serious and are becoming reliable to Giovanni.

However, with the fact that they took a bigger, secretive role, then there is the possibility for a greater outcome. That to me signifies that Pokemon is going to reach its end. The biggest event is in wait and there is no reason that shouldn't happen after what the writers have done with Team Rocket. Believe me, I'd be tick if it turns out they were another GS Ball. Great idea and suspenseful, but in the end, it's thrown out. Amazing that the writer's think we can just forget such things.

Little Note -Lawl @ Dan Green voicing Tobias look-a-like.

It is a good change from the Accident-Prone Villains that TRio were

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

Granted, I sort of miss the old "bust a nut" funny trio but this more serious "trio more makes up for it. But to be honest, they seem like totally different people.

I mean they act like automatons with zero emotion or anything.

And of course, a gaping plot hole. I thought Giovanni hated the three and thought of them as well, "too incompetent to operate a blanket". So why did he just suddenly promote them to I guess, "Elite Grunts"?

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

As I've said before, I love their new role, and don't see how they're emotionless robots. They still have plenty of personality, except they now get to kick ass! :-D

Because they liked to get the job, if you recall the last DP episode.

And they're not "Elite Grunts". I can't remember what their rank is, but it was said sometime ago.

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

Yeah, I'm glad that they're not just some kind of running gag character. Giving them a little more purpose made me like them a whole lot more.

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

I'd say no, but then yes. No because they lost their comical self. yes, because they are serious, and so far, they hadn't failed at something like before

Bulbapedia lists them as Agents. Maybe they're that, or Elite Agents? I dunno.

I like it when they're not all jokes. They bored me when they were trying to be funny. And the dub's writing killed them in Sinnoh.

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

Hmmm... that's a tough question. At first I was really excited the Rockets went serious, but I gotta say as time went on, I sorta started to care less about them when they pulled their usual capture the pokémon of the day schtick. I think it has a lot to do with BW023-BW024 not bieng aired but it just doesn't feel like what they're doding is leading anywhere and there's not really funny anymore, so I just don't really pay attention to them.

Though I really liked them in BW029, but I don't want to see the return of the goofy incompetent Team Rocket. I also think it was a good move not to include them in every episode.

Overall, I'm very lukewarm at the moment towards Team Rocket.

Re: Do you like the Rocket trio's role in Best Wishes!?

At first i liked them in their new serous fashion, But now I'm starting to think it was pointless keeping them. The personality's that made them popular have been replaced so why not just replace the characters themselves.

They kicked ass plenty of times before BW, too. They also had their moments where they were cool, competent, sexy, and all the other things people praise the BW Rocket trio for.

Really? I don't remember that.

I thought the writers were keeping the whole thing ambiguous on purpose. Of course, it's obvious the trio got a promotion before the start of Best Wishes!, but I don't think they've ever actually said so outright.

QFT. Being competent doesn't mean being not funny.

But then again, the (TPCi) dub seriously fucked up funny!TR so I don't know if they should still be like they were pre-BW.
