Do you play with the pokemon you like best, or with the strongest?

When you play through a game, does your team consist of the strongest pokemon you can catch/breed, or do you use the ones you like the most?
Myself, I use the ones I like best, I care not one bit for whether or not they're strong. My first team consisted of two persians, an umbreon, a raichu, and a cyndaquil.

I usually go by what I think will help me the most during the next milestone in the game. For instance, the next Gym Leader I'm facing in Emerald is Winona, who uses Flying-Types, so I'm training up Pokemon that are strong against that Type, like Electrike and Aron. Once I beat a game, if I don't have anything else to do, I'll usually start raising themed teams, like an team made up of nothing but canine-like Pokemon or a team made up of Pokemon with unusual Type-combinations.

if only Karen was right and using the Pokemon you like best provides the best results... :/

but yeah, I use what I like! it feels better to win with Pokemon you like rather than Pokemon you have just 'cause they're strong.
which is why I want to someday get an EV trained, IV bred beastly version of my current team. now if only it would work... I can just imagine the face of some competitive battler losing to a Lopunny.

Interesting! The game can be tough if your favorites are all little first-staged cuties or something, but that makes it interesting!
If I ever get soulsilver I'm gonna try having an all first-stage team for my first play through. Cyndaquil or chikorita, and then meowth, growlithe, eevee, marill, and maybe pichu. . .And yay people posted on my first ever thread!

I play with my favourites for both ingame and wifi battling.

I combine each, cause really, Pokemon I like are pokemon that are the strongest XD

I generally use whatever I can catch.

And as I am usually able to catch lesser Legendaries (like Zapdos), I tend to use them quite a lot.

Also, if I can get my hands on Typhlosion, I will use it, no question.

i beleive in what Karen says. i only use draconic- themed teams.as dragons are my all-time faves( tho dragonite will ALWAYS be #1 on my Team)
my team also consists of:
kingdra
Charizard
Aerodactyl
Salamence
Gyarados

pc also consists :
Garchomp
Altaria
Flygon
Many other pokemon

mainly, im like lance or clair or drake

i even draw my own dragon-type pokemon(like a pokemon called Lavern, a Fire/Dragon, or the pokemon Eurocard, A dragon/steel)

A little bit of both actually. I always seem to get a Fire-type for my starter since it's kinda hard to find a good one in the earlier parts of the game in the wild. I always have a Fire, Water, Electric, and Flying type with me. I'll ususallly have a Grass type with me too, but not very often...the only Grass type I've ever liked was Breloom. I'm starting to get where I'm making my signature Pokemon to be Espeon, ever since I've had one on Colosseum and XD. Since Espeon can learn Cut, I was gonna replace my Roselia with it in my Platinum. I've still yet to raise my "wittle" Eevee.

I play with my favorites, definately.

Unfortunately, most of them are also powerful and commonly used. I almost feel like a hypocrit when I eschew teams full of dragons or Skarmory/Blissey.

Worse still, the not-so-powerful members of my team don't actually balance the stronger members' strength out, they usually wind up falling and causing me to rely a lot more on the stronger members than them :/

I use ones that are obtainable reasonably early on in the game, and pick the toughest, coolest looking ones of those. More based on what I like than strength, although it does play a part

I only use favorites. :3 Thankfully, a lot of my favorites are really strong, though. XP Go Aggron!

I've learned I don't have what it takes to battle competitively because I refuse to ditch some of my favorites. Like Houndoom and Espeon, neither of which make the best sweepers. I just like them.

When i play through the game i must have Zangoose in my team no mater what, cause its my favorite.

Competitively on the other hand, im not naive, i use the strong guys (Kingdra is beast).

Strongest?

I play with any Pokemon. I pick individuals, it's not good to discriminate because of how "strong" they are, or their personalities.

Any Pokemon can be strong. Even a little Sunkern.

In game I use the ones I like, no matter how unbalanced my team ends up being. My current pearl team includes 4 fighting types..

Competitively, I use the best and I still lose.

In-game I try to mix the two together. Pick some pokemon that I like, then choose the ones that are strong, or vise-versa. When HGSS comes out though it seems that I'll be going for more towards preferances over powers. I'm going through with some unevolved pokemon, which will be a first for me.

Competetively: none. Not enough wi-fi to contact other players.
