Do you prefer in-game battling, or wifi battling?

I prefer in-game. Too many wifi users IV & EV. I don't exactly support that sort of training so..

You? I suspect people think wifi battling is more fun, but I don't see why.

WiFi for sure. It's more challenging and involves strategy.

Hmm? I'm curious. Why don't you support EV and IV training? It's something the developers put into the game to give more depth to raising your Pokemon.

I can understand not supporting IV breeding if you enjoy treating your Pokemon like individuals - I feel the same, but EV training isn't exactly like treating them like 'just data,' just fighting in certain ways to help make them stronger.

Well I like the idea of Wi-fi...but its too hard for me due to EVs and IVS which I never got... And I only just managed to get a full party of 6 up to level 90, and never owned a level 100 except when I used the Missigno cheat..

The sad thing now that DUE to my party being all level 90 there's barely any in-game trainer who's a challenge anymore XD

It seems a bit cruel, to the Pokemon themselves.

I honestly prefer Wi-Fi battling. It requires much more strategy and you feel much more satisfication when you win a battle, than if you win a battle in-game.
Now, Pokemon is just data. You needn't concern yourself with feelings, IMO.
And Pokemon enjoy battling, as it's their way to grow stronger, so they wouldn't mind doing EV training to make them stronger.

You don't need level 100 Pokemon for wi-fi battling. They get raised automatically.

Okay, that's fair enough. n.n You're talking cruel to all the wild Pokemon you have to beat up?

I lol when people say "Pokemon are just data". that would be a fact, yes, but I'd say "just" turns it into an opinion.

we're a massive blob of atoms according to science. and, couldn't the same be said for Pokemon, too? even if they're pixels on a screen, bytes in a computer? there's a whole realm of people who play those virtual pet games, and Pokemon can be treated the same way too. which is why there are so many fanfiction writers and artists in the Pokemon fandom. those kinds of people, like me, usually equate Pokemon with real beings, and that's how they have their fun. there are, of course, some artists or writers who competitively battle, I'm sure, but I'd at least think they're in the minority.
if I wanted strategy, I'd learn to play chess. I don't, though, and I play Pokemon for fun, and that fun just happens to involve imagination, too.

anyway, I actually almost hate competitive battling. my reasons...?
1) breeding pokemon and only picking the ones with the best IVs. it's like cat shows and dog shows, only picking the ones with the best qualities. what about the rest of them? most cats and dogs make great pets, and most of the mean ones will be nice with a little training, love, etc. also, being bred in captivity usually leads most real animals to be unfit for survival in the wild, and besides them leaving, nothing's set in stone for what happens to Pokemon after you release them.
2) it excludes so many Pokemon who don't have high enough base stats and blah blah blah. takes some fun out of the whole experience to have to use Pokemon you don't like much/don't want to use over Pokemon you love and want to use. which is why in-game battles are just more fun to me. I can use my Lopunny and it doesn't have to be that one useless Pokemon who only serves to switch out.
3) it's not that realistic. the in-game level system makes it more like real life, IMO. if you have two identical twins who are both black belts in some martial art, they're still probably not going to be exactly the same. and, well, people who fight aren't always going to be at the same level either. if you spend months training for something, then you're much more likely to win over that other person who didn't train much at all -- but the auto-leveling system negates that. you only have to train for EVs and certain moves, and after you're done no more training is to be had, and that just bugs me. you don't really have to keep them in shape at all, and after months of inactivity, you can pull them out and they're just as ready as ever. whereas real athletes and such don't have that ability.

I kinda hope that can explain why some people don't like it so they don't have to, but idk, all that really could just be my opinion and no one else's.

I'm really not into battling online over a long distance. I don't like fighting people I don't know and can't see; someone I can trust to be a good sportsman.

I do train specific EVs, but I don't bother worrying about IVs unless it's clear that a key one for that particular Pokèmon is extremely insufficient(like single-digit). I usually catch three or four of a specie and compare them to check for that.

I perfer wifi, buy not competitive wifi. I simply pick Pokemon I LIKE, not tier related pokemon, pick natures that are good, not "best" EV train them (so they don't suck completly) and that's it.

I prefer Wifi battles. After I lose an in game battle I know for a fact that my problem can be solved simply by grinding. When I lose a Wifi battle, I have to evaluate exactly what went wrong, whether it by the pokemon I used, the strategy I used to employ them, bad luck (yeah right..), whatever it is.

In the realm of competitive battling, you have a thousand options on how to make your team better. In game, you just level up. I like there to be more to a game then that.

As for using my favorites... Well in all honesty, most of my favorite pokemon are OU, or are usable in an OU setting. Most competitive teams do include my favorite pokemon.

Although I haven't had a chance to have a Wi-Fi battle yet, I'm sure that I'd prefer them over in-game battles, because I prefer playing against real people as opposed to a computer opponent. I've also started EV training my Pokémon, so I would like to see how they fare against other people's Pokémon (I don't breed for IVs or Natures, however, unless I've been requested to by someone I'm trading with).

FTW, many people don't breed for IVs, but natures are important. 10% stat bonus if the nature adds to it

I think some of you take Pokemon a little too seriously. And I'm not talking about competitive battlers, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, what's so bad about choosing Pokemon based on their 'personalities'? That's not shallow.

Their feelings do to matter.. Or else you wouldnt get an Umbreon or Espeon or Pichu to evolve.. But yeah wifi can be fun. But I prefer just playing with people I know. Defeating my cousin is just joyous to me.

I think anyone who joins an internet forum dedicated to pokemon probably takes pokemon a little bit too seriously.

Hahaha! That's a silly outlook. XD

It could just be that they're interested in meeting people as interested in Pokemon as they are, too. That's not necessarily taking it too seriously, that's just enjoying Pokemon. *Nods*

Many NPCs say it in the games - Pokemon's all about bringing people together.
