Do you prefer the remake designs or the original ones?

Excluding Lyra - Kris..Don't bring that up.

This is about the protagonists but others are included.

I've never got why Red's original design is so popular, especially amongst Japanese fans. Because they think it makes his fourteen year old self look are intimidating/cool/deep/whatever? I say his FRLG look has more potential for those.

I prefer the remake designs for Red, Green, Leaf and Ethan actually. I don't really like the original designs, especially Green's. But they have that vintage, "regular kid" look.
 
I prefer Red's and Green's old design because of the memories they hold, but in general the newer artwork looks better.

And for me, I have to bring up Kotone. Kotone > Kris for me, and as such, HGSS > GSC in terms of design for me. I don't really have a preference for Hibiki though. The Pokégear also looks a lot better in the new versions IMO.
 
I tend to prefer the remake designs... although whether original or remake the Gen II games seem to give the female character somewhat odd fashions. Leaf was probably my favourite of the remake designs, as she gives the best impression of a normal girl as opposed to the weird hairstyles and fashion sense of the others.
 
I like them all really... it doesn't really matter. But yeah, its seems most people think Red look much more badass in his classic clothes. It would be nice to see a cool looking artwork of Red with his new clothes, though.
 
I like all of the newer artwork. Yes, the old stuff does have more memories, but all the remake art looks crisper and (in my opinion) better. Especially Red. For some reason I like his FR/LG look way better than the origional.
 
I prefer the designs in which they have relatively normal looking clothes. So yeah, original designs all the way.
 
I highly prefer the remake designs for the Johto games, but when it comes to Kanto, I prefer the remake designs...except in the case of Red. I prefer old!Red.
 
Mostly polarizing designs as far as I'm concerned.

I prefer RGBY/GSC Red. I dunno what it is about FRLG/HGSS Red, but it isn't nowhere near as cool. It's probably the silly hair style. It works for Leaf, but not for Red. I refer to the upper hair bits below the cap. Plus, the closed up jacket is pretty blah. I liked the opened one, as well as the design. Likewise, I prefer the design of the old cap. The new one just feels plain to me. Yes, the old one just was a white frame with some stickers on it, but er... I just prefer it.

Blue looks better in FRLG, though. Though at least both are about the same this one time as far as I go. I'd say I like both. I'm also glad he wore the coat for once in HGSS. You know, the cat his overworld was wearing, which is also a reference to his RGB Champion Sprite. Overall, a huge improvement, especially in HGSS.

Leaf/Green didn't exist before, besides that one design taken by Blue in Special. It's unfortunate that they completely ignored her in HGSS as well... but when it comes to the tight short dress and white boots VS the hat, the blue shirt and red miniskirt... I actually like both a lot. I slightly prefer the FRLG one, though. It's colorful, and she looks nice in it.

For Gold and Hibiki, I prefer Gold. He looks less kiddie, and aims for a more cool approach. Plus, shorts, which no one else uses. I'll admit Hibiki's hair looks a bit better, though. I also prefer the color scheme in Gold.

Between GSC Silver and HGSS silver, we have another tie of sorts. I like aspects of both equally, and can't really pick between them.

As for Kris and Lyra, the latter, most definitely. Better pigtails, brunette, I like her color scheme, as well as her puffy hat. She's much cuter for me as well. Plus, thigh-highs.

Amusing trend going on. I prefer the original hero, like the rivals about the same, and prefer the new girl in both cases.
 
Remakes > Originals

Sorry to all those nostalgia critics, but I never played the originals. I seem to like the remakes better because of that.
 
I like the FR/LG version of Red, Blue and Green/Leaf better than the old ones. I don't know what Red and Blue look like in HG/SS yet, but I assume they'd be pretty much the same as FR/LG. I also like Silver's HG/SS design better than the original, and I like Lyra better than Kris. Gold on the other hand, I perfer the old design.
 
I do like the new looks. I mean, yeah old Red was awesome, but I still like FRLG art. And the HGSS art. The designs look modern, cool, and the characters still look like they always did.

for some reason i dont have much memory of crystal, but i dont really like crys anyways. i have seen her artwork and it didnt seem as i dont know, pokemon. I like lyra a lot tho, and since i have never played as the opposite gender i will probably play as her in soulsilver just to try it out xD.

As far as my preferences are, the old designs look outdated and the clothes make some of the characters look like standard anime from the 80's and 90's: pretty "common" and dull, with not many things to set the franchise apart from other Japanese series. On the other hand, the new outfits, facial and body features make highlight their attitudes, personalities and so.

-Red-
FRLG/HGSS Red actually looks more mature and concerned about his development as a Pokémon Trainer (at least for me) than the old design. Moreover, I don't like either the old cap or the shoes/sneakers.
-Green/Blue-
Wilder and crispier orange hair >>> Blue coat.
-Hibiki/Ethan/Gold-
I find 'meh' this character, but at least the new design doesn't fit at all the cool, average-looking kid turned-heroe cliché.
-Kotone/Lyra-
Though her design is good and original (for a girl nowadays that's it), she is still a lame Mario-esque, Kris rip-off. No need to say more.
-Leaf-
All what I can say is that Sugimori couldn't have designed a better female protagonist: I don't know if it's because of her charisma, the skirt, the hair, the hat...I pretty much fell in love with Leaf the minute I first saw her artwork.
-Silver-
Skinnier, more reddish hair and sinester look >>> Black jacket.
 
In general, the remakes are better for me. Apart from nostalgia, the originals offer nothing that I feel is better - remakes have better game mechanics, graphics, new features (in the case of FRLG extended plot).

Although I do like Red's original design
 
In my opinion, every single character that got redesigned became better.
Especially Hibiki/Ethan, Morty, Will and Eusine (although he didn't really get too big a redesign). They're so incredible.
Also, every completely new character (Lyra(<3), Apollo/Archer, Athena/Arianna, Lambda/Petrel, Lance/Proton etc.*) also looks amazing.
I hated the "badass"-designs from the original games. The male protagonist was just.. stupid back then, and the Rival equally so. (Not to mention the female protagonist, whom I am glad they removed.) The remake improved them significantly, I'd say.

...Yeah. The HG/SS designs were a VAST improvement when compared to designs from previous generations.

Actually, there is rather significant evidence to contradict that, but that's not the point.
 
I prefer the older designs. Except for like, Will. I love the new Rocket Executives, but I prefer the old female one.
I really, really hate Silver's new design >.>
